We used to repair these in the 90's - we bought some secondhand ones for spares. The combination for the safebox was missing. We paid a specialist to open it, he did it with a single 8mm hole.
Is there any signs of ink or dye capsules ? They used to make atm's so if you stole them it would ruin the money with ink or dye, plus if it got on you, you'd be identifiable
that login reader is an "ibutton" reader. a contractor that I work with uses them. you can also find identical looking temperature sensors for extreme applications.
Back in the 90s they yanked a lot of ATMs in Norway, they used a big cat wheelloader and yanked the ATM away to their cutting site. Quite successful with that approach, but now they have the cash staining system, even so you could cause the bank quite a bit of pain by using it as a Denial Of Service, making the stainer set off and leave it there. Then again, a lot of the US ones uses the default password too, so if you find the manual you can have it spit out the bills for you.
if the machine is set for default yet, but quite a few machines issued by diebold are no longer defaulted because of that little trick. they are learning SLOWLY.
I think they have now fitted gas detectors to ATM's but one "fast' method of entry used successfully by a number of thieves was to fill the ATM with oxygen and acetylene gas and ignite it. The resultant explosion blew the case apart.
I am curious, Ed, is there a standards agency in Australia? I ask because I notice a lot of the stuff you get there to tear apart either has the Canadian Standards Association logo or the Underwriter's Laboratory logo on some of your teardowns and autopsies.
Hey Ed, That little key is the re-lock trigger reset. The re-lock mechanism is built into the KABA MAS electronic lock that you took apart. The key is there incase you trigger the relock when you are trying to install the lock
jukebox, heh..strip internal paint for meat smoker or food dehydrator, heavy duty rails for homebrew CNC project, or external padlocks for strongbox. Concrete, a substitute for lead for many safes (in bottom). The Hussein bros used an RPG on the bank bullion safe in baghdad..bent into a "U".
Portable ATM's like some of the mini ATM machines over here in the UK charge on average £1.50 to £1.95 per transaction to lift your own money from the local (mainly indian or pakistani owned) mini markets, some in wall machines take £2.25, pays to look for the machines with "free cash withdrawal" flashing on the screens.
a few months back some guys tunneled under an ATM and cleaned it out, they only found the 40ft or so tunnel under the shop. have a go at the bottom to see if this one is just as flawed. it was like the thieves braking into peoples houses.. by going through the roof tiles.
some of the larger units used at outdoor festivals have incendiary units built into the cash boxes intend to incinerate the contents within a few seconds if 2 or more of the interlocks are tempered with, apparently door tamper or unit tilt and seismic. the ATM company would rather sacrifice the contents rather then have someone get away with possibly 100's of thousands of dollars. I learned this working stage crew late one night at the end of a weekend festival. The ATM company had sent armored car to pick up the cash boxes, and a crew to unbolt the safe from the frames they were mounted to. apparently someone didnt disarm one and the guys loading the ATMs onto the truck with a forklift were sprayed with UV marker dye coming from the cash slot as red smoke poured out every seam in the box along with a very loud alarm sounding for several hours until the internal battery died.
The cash drawers should have a sensor to tell the machine what denomination is loaded and as a result I think you can load the drawers in any slot. It doesn't stop you accidentally loading the 20's in the 50's cartidge or vice-versa though :/
for 9 bucks you have an very nice home strongbox. Make your own lock unlock mechanism. harden some parts and reinforce some points. And you have an nice box. never seen them fore sale over hire
ATM's used to run OS/2 for the longest time, worked on a couple of them in a casino once, was really surprised to see the OS/2-Warp logo when we rebooted it...
Thanks Ed, ive never seen inside one before :-)) You say the computer uses xp, im not supprised, once all the crap is removed and the explorer is bypassed and replaced with a dedicated program im sure it would be very reliable. Ive seen one supermarket self service machine crash and stick at the bios screen, so the old pc is a handy tool.
18:07 Cencom Key. Look like Barbie frying pans. Ya wind the dial then a code come up, put ur Cencom key on and it will give specific code for specific keys. When you lock it you get a Number from lock itself from your key. The combination changes with every opening and closing. These locks are very secure. Never the same combo!!!!!!
The default Mas Hamilton lock combo is 50-25-50 Spin it up until you see EC on the display type in 50 25 50 if you see OPR The means open right. Turn the dial to the right until it stops then open the bolt If you see anything other then OPR there is some company in the lock that has not been shelved out. Lock out. Would have to be drilled. (or destroyed like this guy did)
What I've seen is that those locks are powered by spinning the knob (the lock has a little dynamo inside), which wakes up the lock and reads out a code. You then call a main office where they have a 'decoder', and they reply with the unlock code. The fob is actually coin-cell battery used to power the solenoid inside the lock (I got a good look at one while watching Diebold unlock one to so I could change out a network cable on one).
Aussie50 zaprodk suggested that the fob may be a Dallas iButton (so I may be incorrect...) Pretty sure on the dynamo in the knob however, so that it could be entered without power. Any chance you could autopsy or take some hi-res photos of the lock parts (digital section in particular)? Makes more sense to be an 'RFID' or similar transponder (however the contacts/antennas look a bit odd for that application), such that the code called in to the main office would be a hash of the RFID and an internal key, such that they could tell if you should be allowed to enter the cash box.
With the addition of a new lock and some 7018 I see an awesome pistol safe... (To one that isn't locked already of course) Would be raven better if you could use some of those sensors to an alarm or silent SMS alarm
the steel conduit coming from the door contains the cables for the security sensors. reed switch, duress button, combo duress, seismic, bolt status, lock status.
simdude2u it would not surprise me if NCR still use the same mechanism in modern machines!, its reliable enough. IO am waiting for one of those self serve checkouts to show up for cheap so I can mod it :D
Couple of months ago in the UK some people managed to steal from an ATM by digging a tunnel under it, I'd say that's the most effective way I know of. (Although it must have taken months to do)
I don't like those cash machines, they're always set to charge a stupidly high amount to use them, much more fun to see them torn apart than to see them being used by suckers... :P
when I get the next one I am interested to see if it can be fitted with a good lock to make a pistol/ammo safe out of. I am sure a lot of us have a pistol safe that's never big enough for the whole collection, and an ATM safe would be a big step up!
Well, here in Slovakia there was a so called "ATM gang", they've stolen about 10 of these free standing ATMs with steel cable/chain and Porsche Cayenne and only one of them resisted, so I don't think they bolt them down so well everywhere...
Juraj Pekar yeah, it's pretty self explanatory that the insides would be of a dust like substance... But i was reffering to the act of removing the bars keeping it stationary, as in most likely burning through whatever it was standing on and under the atm itself. They looked pretty pro doing that, did they get caught?
I'm probably raising up so many red flags at the NSA's HQ watching this video lol. Although I'd like to watch the rest, I don't feel like having to deal with any issues. I liked the video for you Ed, but I left at 9:33. Nothing against you.
lol, yeh this NSA stuff is going too far :(, I was hesitant to film the safe box itself but since its been "decommissioned" by the bank, all the really critical stuff is long gone.hence why they sell them below scrap value
mrh112 LMFAO ignorance is bliss! A plasma cutter wouldn't make it through, this has various layers such as a concrete layer and others that are there for that reason
MyWillyboi You could use a plasma cutter to cut out a triangle up high on the side close to the door, the you can get a hand inside and unbolt the locking mechanism '
We used to repair these in the 90's - we bought some secondhand ones for spares. The combination for the safebox was missing. We paid a specialist to open it, he did it with a single 8mm hole.
Where he made a hole?
Fascinating video, I missed this the first time round! (RIP)
Is there any signs of ink or dye capsules ? They used to make atm's so if you stole them it would ruin the money with ink or dye, plus if it got on you, you'd be identifiable
If you did manage to get a hold of the power jack, could you not just overload it with a mass amount of power and break all the circuit boards?
that login reader is an "ibutton" reader. a contractor that I work with uses them. you can also find identical looking temperature sensors for extreme applications.

Man, that's a GOLDMINE of gears and belts... I would scavenge for DAYS in that thing. :)

nice, always wanted to know what was in one of these. thanks for the upload!
The printer will be fun. I have an A4 thermo printer that is really handy for printing numbers, lists and instructions on small bits of paper.
I agree. If that thing fell on your foot, it would definitely leave a mark! Ouch! Thanks for the video.
Dave

Interesting video I wonder if one was chucked of a really tall tower block would it brake the door open?
Near where I live, a while ago there was a case where somebody successfully stole an ATM machine. It was one that was suspended off the ground.
best channel on youtube!
wow lots of stuff going on inside the atm. a server with atm rails would nice. what does that terminal strip do?
The cash drawers should have a sensor to tell the machine what denomination is loaded and as a result I think you can load the drawers in any slot. It doesn't stop you accidentally loading the 20's in the 50's cartidge or vice-versa though :/

the front page of the local newspaper 2 days later , 10 ATM's chopped open , youtuber sought as person of interest lmao
lmao ;p, don't say that ;)
***** no shit , ever hear of a JOKE , seems Ed caught it just fine read above ...
your on the money with this video on youtube :)
windozeXP forever
ATM's used to run OS/2 for the longest time, worked on a couple of them in a casino once, was really surprised to see the OS/2-Warp logo when we rebooted it...
up until 2011 there was still OS2 all over the place.
That brass lockbox would be a great ecig boxmod
Thanks Ed, ive never seen inside one before :-))

My name is not salim,.home Indonesia,.apakah lock cencon kaba mas masih ada?
that combo lock mech should still work :)
would be interesting to see ! :) wonder if it can be reset with access from the inside? HMM
bah she broke :( lol

oww that's how they work!, I thought the fob was like a RFID tag. thanks for the info!
Aussie50 zaprodk suggested that the fob may be a Dallas iButton (so I may be incorrect...) Pretty sure on the dynamo in the knob however, so that it could be entered without power. Any chance you could autopsy or take some hi-res photos of the lock parts (digital section in particular)?

icesoft1 I will see what I can do, I will post pics on my G+ of the lock anyway
Do you have kaba mas cencon lock atm? Greetings im from indonesia

Looks they use similar cash dispensing unit on NCR's U-SCAN / SelfCheck out machines.
simdude2u it would not surprise me if NCR still use the same mechanism in modern machines!, its reliable enough.
IO am waiting for one of those self serve checkouts to show up for cheap so I can mod it :D
they still use the same pic mod style..its not changed since the early 80s
simdude2u made many pic plates for ncr in Dundee
And they still charge their clients a pretty penny for it too, when it breaks.
YOU CAN BUY AN ATM FOR $9?
Couple of months ago in the UK some people managed to steal from an ATM by digging a tunnel under it, I'd say that's the most effective way I know of. (Although it must have taken months to do)
always wonder what it looks like inside a ATM i thought it was just magic lol
I'd love to get one of these and see how bullet proof they are :p
14:38 whats the yellow thing?
They probably decommissioned those since XP is no longer allowed to be used in financial systems.
good point!, the rest of the machine was a bit rough too, so by the time they replace the embedded systems and refurbish it, its too costly.
iButton - That's what the key is called.
JESUS CHRIST STOP TRYING TO CUT OFF YOUR THUMB!
Glad you are recovering lol
I don't like those cash machines, they're always set to charge a stupidly high amount to use them, much more fun to see them torn apart than to see them being used by suckers... :P
I guess there's a vacuum pump if it's got suction cups
Good Stuff!
when I get the next one I am interested to see if it can be fitted with a good lock to make a pistol/ammo safe out of. I am sure a lot of us have a pistol safe that's never big enough for the whole collection, and an ATM safe would be a big step up!
there no good for scrapping the walls filled with concreate andf most scrap yards dock half weight so 300lb machine u get 20 bucks max
That would be worth more in scrap metal.
nice chemical cabinet or melting furnace you got there
Well, here in Slovakia there was a so called "ATM gang", they've stolen about 10 of these free standing ATMs with steel cable/chain and Porsche Cayenne and only one of them resisted, so I don't think they bolt them down so well everywhere...
Also Thermal lances are not that hard to come by these days, could be they used one.
MrHanske2 AFAIK they've once tried huge oxyacetylene torch, but everything inside was burnt. Here's a video of one of thefts : www.sme.sk/vp/14692/
MrHanske2 eventually yes, 25 stolen ATMs in total (build-in and stand alone).
Juraj Pekar Wow, that is pretty impressive.
I'm probably raising up so many red flags at the NSA's HQ watching this video lol. Although I'd like to watch the rest, I don't feel like having to deal with any issues. I liked the video for you Ed, but I left at 9:33. Nothing against you.

***** Eh, I only saw the drawers in it, nothing sensitive.
***** Naaah. Although ever since I've seen this video I think someones been pulling a prank on me. I've seen this red dot following me. ;)
I am here because I am planning to rob all atms of my city
looks like cutting the two hinges on other side of door would have saved you an hr
nope. See his explanation from 7:10 ...
What a angle
Atm lock is tublar sir
Chrome+Adblock
Just like me!
if you demontage the slot properly you could sell it for 300 us
I use to fix these machines
18:10 Dallas iButton.
Thanks for the correction...
With a plasma cutter I can get into one in about 45 seconds give or take.
a plasma cutter that cuts concrete? never seen that before.
maybe you can get some concrete mix and fix up the area you damaged so you could reuse the case as a fireproof (or resistant) box.
a plasma cutter would end up destroying anything flammable inside, so that would pretty much be pointless
mrh112 LMFAO ignorance is bliss! A plasma cutter wouldn't make it through, this has various layers such as a concrete layer and others that are there for that reason
MyWillyboi You could use a plasma cutter to cut out a triangle up high on the side close to the door, the you can get a hand inside and unbolt the locking mechanism '
cool vid bro
