Yo I actually made a mixtape of these two the same song...they got 7 I could find.....they definitely need an album together....I don't see the point of rock and a anymore
The story behind this song is crazy. This song was written in less than 12 hours and released in under 24. Just finishing the 32nd of a 34-city tour he wrote this the night after his performance in Vegas, October 19, 2012. The Heart Pt 2 had featured singer Alori Joh who was a TDE affiliate and also Ab Soul's girlfriend who committed suicide back in February of 2012 by leaping from a radio tower while at the studio recording. The Heart Pt 3 was recorded and some of the lyrics seem like references to her such as when Kendrick says "This last year been quite similar to Aaliyah" and "Find the tallest building in Vegas and jump off it" while being in the studio in Vegas recording it. Then the transition from Kendrick's voice to Ab-Soul's makes it more heartfelt. The tour began a short time after her death so they had to mourn her death as it went on...I know this sounds like alot but hearing this just makes you think about it. Ab Soul wrote a song about her 3 months later called The Book of Soul if any of you want to check it out. Extremely heartfelt and raw, in my opinion, one of the most personalized and saddest songs I've heard.
Naw he's probably the greatest period. Given his life he should be dead or in jail. he succeeded and he did so by evolving rap past gangsta rap and materialism. logic j Cole are good but Kendrick came from the gutta. he's a true underdog
+Dick Dansom Show me the numbers? Ever been to Compton? I have. Five minutes there and you'll realize being born 20 minutes up the road in Beverly Hills statistically gives you a better shot at a higher quality of life. Kendrick defies stats.
I caught that like 6 months ago and I proudly told my mother of my sheer intelligence of knowledge when it comes to Kendrick Lamar and dmx. Good thing someone else shares the same intellect. P
Yeah man. I've been a Kendrick fan for years and the heart songs just hit different. The only L that Kendrick took on the beef is that the heart series might be over.
I think Drake did put his heart into it, and that's not me defending him. It's the opposite. At that point, his heart was damaged and destroyed beyond repair. That's why it was so ass.
Man after hearing part 5 I know that song will get a lot of love and hype as it should but something about 3 that just gives me goosebumps, maybe the times were better when I fell in love with it.
3 is just different. A moment of clarity. One mission! Make this shit count! At the moment the world was finally looking at him he knew he had to make it count. It leaks all over the record. That’s the difference.
This song is so incredibly deep. Kendrick knows he has been passed the torch... He is speaking with the intent of greats like Pac. The track is an account of how difficult it is to be the man in this position, when you know the conscious weight of hip hop is on his shoulders. This is the burden of only writers of the highest caliper. No one makes music to change the world like Kenny does (or like many of the greats have), and I believe the beauty in this song resides in his complete pledge to us as listeners within the culture. Gotta appreciate that!! Peace and love
As a Kendrick fan since 2009, I can say that this song is the point where he transformed into a Master of his craft. Kendrick was always amazing, but this song here is when he evolved into the Kendrick that we hear today. His voice and sound changed drastically.
What a journey. Grateful to witness this man's growth not only as a rapper but a true legend. The amount of artists and entertainers we've lost in the past 30 years is heartbreaking. So I appreciate the greats like K. Dot, Lauryn Hill, Nas, Cole, Krit, Cyhi, Joey Badass etc. still here who overstands the importance of true Hip Hop, what it means to our souls & making sure it never dies. Inspiration is a understatement. Well done Kendrick Lamar 🐐 10/22
"soul told me that the record shop bout to go in a drought, Q aint gotta place to stay and bout to sleep on a couch we eating off eachother tray, the dollar menu amount." this whole song is obviously legendary, but these lines...mmm...mannnn, real shit.
John Rodriguez i swear to god i remeber watchin videos of them back in the day sharingn kfc snackers now my niggas eat shrimp steal liqour and pasta everyday
"Make the decision, ride the beat or ride in a hearse" Kendrick is real af. He saying that if it wasn't for hip-hop he'd be brainwashed by all the gang bangers and prolly die like so many of them. Bout to make me cry over here
I think it’s a lot deeper, I think at an early age it was quite evident for Kendrick that he had talent and an ability to convey his emotions on paper, not often does a writer’s ability take form in a young boy from a place such as Compton. I think to him hip hop saved his life, but at the same time he had to nurture his talents or else he would’ve gotten caught up in gang affiliation
This is a lyrical master piece from Kendrick. I might be being over the top here, but that's one of the best performances on a hip hop track i've ever heard. Still listening in 2021.
Same man…. Kendrick is my favourite artist but I’m really not into his new high pitch voice stuff. This, to me, was the best performance of kendrick ever.
All there is to say is kendrick has already separated himself and stood out from the start there is no comparing him with anyone out right now and this track proves it. #Respect
Kendrick is the best of our era. He's something else. He bodied this track and as an upcoming rapper in the same shoes that he once was in I found this to be the most inspirational song from him in my opinion.
WOW...I have heard this song many times before, but I have had it on repeat for the past three days. This and 6:16 in LA both have excellent production and just seem to be so infectious. K. Dot is HIM🔥🔥🔥🔥
After listening to Kendrick for 3 years I thought " this is it he has reached the peak of RAP LYRICS " boy I was wrong he has surpassed himself as a lyrical genius 0.o
crazymanjonchin I said surpassed himself. HIMSELF as a lyrical genius (his pass lyrical technique) not anyone else , also stop dwelling on the pass , your on a Kendrick song not a Krs joint
"A pound of white rice on the tribe of Asians." I fail to see how that is racist, at worst it's a joke playing off of a common stereotype. But it's not even that, it's actually really ironic that you call it ignorant because it shows further insight into asian culture then even you seem to possess. In the previous line he talks about getting married to the rap game. It's a common practice at Asian weddings to throw Rice, as a form of confetti.
omfg, first time that im hearin this track, kendrick the best rapper in the mainstream right now. he's totally under Pac influence, the way he rappin, lyrically and etc…
i wanna agree, but hes got a lot of work to put in yet...lets just see how he goes (young lil wayne anyone? the games early shit? see how those guys ended up...?)
I think it's safe to say kendrick is my favorite artist of all time. like i have gone a few months only listening to him and it has a impact on my life. Not one song has gotten old, and still gives me chills. and when I'm slipping it still fucking helps me remember where I'm from, who i am, where I'm going. God speaks through this man, and i pray i can make my own positive impact one day because i can do it and you can too. high power
I feel you, but he said kendrick is his favorite artist of all time, not the best of all time. I'm 14 yrs and I've started listening to k-dot like 2yrs ago and he got me into the hip hop industry and I didn't knew shit about hip hop but know I do, I listen everyday to rappers like Big L, Mos Def, Kurupt, Rakim, Outkast (...), I've passed the mainstream thing. I'm Portuguese so English is not my native language and I can't get it all at the first time I hear it but rap genius is there for something. K-dot is my favorite artist too and I've seen him performing this summer as well as de la soul, and man he deserves all the credits he is getting. So, I ain't saying this to tell that i'm anything special, just to prove that it doesn't matter how many time you're into it. It does matter how much of yourself you put into it.
part 3 was crazy because kendrick still had to prove himself. he was about to drop his major label debut album, there was a lot of speculation. but after he proved what he could do with GKMC & TPAB, the heart 4 didnt have the same impact as this one has. this one still gives me fucken goosebumps. so many quotable lines and to this day i will say you can ALWAYS feel that hunger no matter how many times you play it.
Kendrick Lamar is still my favorite rapper till this day. This is why I love music so much. It’s because of Kendrick Lamar. I first started listening to Kendrick Lamar when I was in 7th grade and now I’m 18 and I still listen to the same songs as I did when I was in the 7th grade. Please bring this Kendrick back🙏🏾
"Truthfully I just started rappin to get away, I never thought your favorite rapper would want a verse, My nigga got hit 25 times with a K Make the decision, ride the beat of ride in a hearse." The rhyme scheme and the metaphor in this is so amazing. It shows how living in Compton was dangerous by saying "my nigga got hit 25 times with a K". Then "Make the decision, ride the beat or ride in a hearse." Meaning that he was going to end up just like his friend if he didn't "ride the beat" and keep rapping. Basically he's saying rap was his only option. This is not only REAL rap, this is poetry. Edit: I never thought that these lines were hard to understand, i was only explaining them to emphasize the beauty of it, not because i thought it was too complex for anyone to figure out
@@LocalBlac "make the decision, ride the beat or ride in a hearse" is literally a metaphor, i know what im talkin about bro lol look up the definition yourself
If you really sit back and listen, read the lyrics along with him, it is simply amazing. Kendrick man, you are so inspirational. last semester was crazy tough here at MIT, raps like these are keeping me going.
Why tf does everybody keep comparing him to people ?? Hes his own person ,he has his own style of music &writing . Hes just awesome at his art period .
Thank God for the album i idolized "its dark and plus hell its hot" thats the the start of this crazy ride...2 young nggs me and dave inside that garage i thought we was Jay and Dame thats the lane that we tried to drive 😤
Kendrick is a great artst. When he puts his mind to it he can come out with an album that can last for years.its not only rap. Its pure poetry. GKMC is only a taste for things to come for kendrick. Hopefully kendrick will have his next album out by september
Killed it Kendrick has the talent you know it because all the rappers that got stirred up about his verse in control. They cant compete his one verse kills all the response SONGS
This may just be one of the best rap songs ever made. Holy fuck. Kendrick is definitely going down in the pantheon of Rap legends with Em, Jay, Pac, Nas, andre 3000, and Biggie
After hearing The Heart part 4 I had to catch up on parts 1-3. As much as I love Kendrick I can't believe I slept on this😩🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ definitely woke now 🙌🏾😍🔥🎧
just had to come here after he dropped pt.5 and mannnnnnn. ima be 30 in september & can't even begin to think of where i was mentally when this shit dropped! still figuring this life shit out but enjoying the ride while doing so; peace & love to everyone 😎💚
One of my favorite tracks out of his whole discography. This shit is too real and shout out to Soulo and Rock because that little transition where they come in and spit just flowed so well. Great track overall!
True rap is which defines the hood you living in, all the good n evil memories bound by words n syllabus rhythm. Sir you are true legend, true king of rap, God bless you for the honesty in your art
The transition between Kendrick and Soul gives me chills

The rhyme scheme and the metaphor in this is so amazing.
Edit: I never thought that these lines were hard to understand, i was only explaining them to emphasize the beauty of it, not because i thought it was too complex for anyone to figure out
***** I dunked on you.
+ClassicMist360 as many metaphors kdot does uses. This isn't one. Maybe an entendre but not a metaphor. Definition ma gee.
yea it's obvious dude
@@LocalBlac "make the decision, ride the beat or ride in a hearse" is literally a metaphor, i know what im talkin about bro lol look up the definition yourself
Still the best heart. This one is special.
Here I am brought to tears again even after Part 5 just dropped
If you really sit back and listen, read the lyrics along with him, it is simply amazing. Kendrick man, you are so inspirational. last semester was crazy tough here at MIT, raps like these are keeping me going.
This is one of the best hip hop rap songs ive ever heard in my lifetime
Just revisited all four "Hearts". This one is still my favorite. So much raw emotion in this. Maybe even a top 5 K. Dot song in my eyes.
Same.
Pt 4 is my fav but THIS one is lowkey the best … this is the most soulful and passionate
Kendrick Lamar and Capital Steez would've made a dope record together.
Facts .. Damn
Akeem James I wish him and Nate Dogg could've done something together
+santaana4life they making albums in heaven rn
listen to nas. de jevu. nas is the best. but Kendrick is better than all in modern rap
Nas is good but he wasn't nearly as consistent as Kendrick is at the moment
Why tf does everybody keep comparing him to people ?? Hes his own person ,he has his own style of music &writing . Hes just awesome at his art period .
King Kendrick
“Thank God For The Album I idolized, It’s Dark And Plus Hell Is Hot...” - Kendrick Lamar RIP DMX 🖤
This is one of my all time favorites
kendrick really does put his heart into the heart part 1-5

Thank God for the album i idolized "its dark and plus hell its hot" thats the the start of this crazy ride...2 young nggs me and dave inside that garage i thought we was Jay and Dame thats the lane that we tried to drive 😤
Kendrick is a great artst. When he puts his mind to it he can come out with an album that can last for years.its not only rap. Its pure poetry. GKMC is only a taste for things to come for kendrick. Hopefully kendrick will have his next album out by september
TPAB. He’s something else man
One of the realest rap songs ever made
it's enough pressure to make you open the book of david- rest in peace 2pac. We love and Miss you 😢
I’m so late for this. This is special. Beautiful.
Killed it Kendrick has the talent you know it because all the rappers that got stirred up about his verse in control. They cant compete his one verse kills all the response SONGS
"Q ain't got a place to stay, and 'bout to sleep on the couch, we eating off each other tray, the dollar menu amount" that line gets me every time.
For Kendrick to mention Sherane before releasing GKMC is one of those genius moves that makes him a GOAT. The foreshadowing
This may just be one of the best rap songs ever made. Holy fuck. Kendrick is definitely going down in the pantheon of Rap legends with Em, Jay, Pac, Nas, andre 3000, and Biggie
When the whole world see you as pac reincarnated, that's enough pressure to live your whole life sedated
Lol you everywhere
Holy Aura that's my fav bar
shalom
he spoke that phrase into existence...so inspirational
DeAndre Crawford knocked on wood wit it
After hearing The Heart part 4 I had to catch up on parts 1-3. As much as I love Kendrick I can't believe I slept on this😩🤷🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ definitely woke now 🙌🏾😍🔥🎧

First time hearing The Heart pt 1-3 back to back. Incredible.
Man, Kendrick is just different! 12 years later and this installation STILL gives me goosebumps, it’s other-worldly 🥹❤️
just had to come here after he dropped pt.5 and mannnnnnn. ima be 30 in september & can't even begin to think of where i was mentally when this shit dropped! still figuring this life shit out but enjoying the ride while doing so; peace & love to everyone 😎💚
'They were bringing each other down I was planning out my achievements' Goddamn Kendrick...what a king :')
Drake could never make a song half this meaningful
Not in his wildest dreams
Yeah maybe because that’s not his style of rap
One of my favorite tracks out of his whole discography. This shit is too real and shout out to Soulo and Rock because that little transition where they come in and spit just flowed so well. Great track overall!
No body harder than Kendrick
And some clowns 🤡 comparing him with Drake o my goodness 🤦♂️
True rap is which defines the hood you living in, all the good n evil memories bound by words n syllabus rhythm. Sir you are true legend, true king of rap, God bless you for the honesty in your art
