I once stumbled upon a video of Al Schmidt compressing ...a bass I think... He really just touched it like 1,5 to maybe 2 dB max and it made all the difference. It was a crazy eye opener to me
Roberts insight on performers feeling comfortable with something as small as having a pencil is brilliant. It hit me like a ton of bricks when he said when a performer says that they can’t hear their self, he (Robert) defaults to the premise that is the performer isn’t comfortable they may not perform well.
Man.. you're killing it with all these interviews!!! keep them coming please. a few suggestions: Bob Rock, CLA.
Wessel oltheten will be cool to have here!!! Highly professional mixer
Such honesty and professional advice from a master. This is the real cheese.
Great interview from both of you! So much useful information in this, as well as just _feel_ for the job.

I'm working to have them on the podcast 😉
ive heard quite a few high level mixers say they dont compress too much. they use automation, which i a way is like manual compression/expansion.
1 thing i found out is that i can hear compression better when in mono

Yeah compression is more about feeling it.
Excellent interview except Robert combed his hair with a pack of firecrackers. 😂
