Better comparison. Bought the Nova 3 off of amazon. I also own a poke 2 color. Surprisingly while I liked the larger size which was more detailed, I found that it rendered photos darker and worse gradient than my Poke 2 color. The color was still quite disappointing for the price. Adjusting display settings, I couldn't find a more optimal setting than default. It didn't help that the settings window covered most the display. Will return and hope for the TCL Nxtpaper tablet in mid-April.
Thanks a lot for your opinion. Ever since the nova 3 color released wondered, how it would compare to the poke 2 color. Was thinking about replacing the poke 2 color, but now my mind is at peace :D
Nova 3 is 31% more expensive so it is more advanced because the tech specs. I think the real business for ink-reader is books. I dont understand viewing videos, etc. That is for tablets. I think inkpad color is more oriented e-ink true nature, boox is more ambitious
I was very undecided about which one to buy (sorry Robert), but I choosed Onyx due to its funcionalities... I'm looking forward to receiving my purchase! 😍
I would guess the greenish tint you're seeing isn't the top glass but is instead probably the Wacom layer. I would guess that's partly why they went flush as well as it's more notebook like to not have a separate elevation bezel.
Onyx one does not have expandable storage, only 32GB, and that REALLY sucks. Means you gotta transfer files via the cloud or old fashioned cable method, complete arse if you ask me. Also in Europe Pocketbook is 280 euros, but the Onyx is like 550 euros, almost twice as much, absolute horrible pricing lately and availability.
@7:40 that's why I did hesitate buying the kindle paperwhite. Although it has 300ppi, it has a flush screen with a glass/plastic layer in top of the screen. Finally, I did choose the basic Kindle. I saw your reviews and comparisons, and since I don't read comics I think it will be fine for me.
Can you show the nova 3 side by side with a normal ereader without backlight? So we can see how noticeable the grey background compared to normal ereaders
The description of the 4 colour controls on the pocketbook nearly made me fall off my chair , "watermark setting" what the hell are you talking about. From top to bottom contrast, brightness, gamma and saturation. Please do some research have you never seen a colour device at all lol
You forgot to say about Buttons for control, if your sensor screen would stop to work, you wouldn't be able to do anything with your onyx boox, but you can continue with buttons at your pocketbook
I’m currently having a secondhand Kindle Paperwhite and it is not the best device to read PDFs on. Do you have any recommendations for an upgrade? Specifically for PDF readers cs academic journals are mainly PDFs.
Nova3 would be my preference, but I dont like the glass layer and wacom layer. I wish they had an option minus these layers. (I have zero interest in drawing/sketching on these devices.) Inkcolor overall looks nice, but I dont like the closed system. Also the hardware is rather sluggish, but I can live with that. Bottomline, no perfect color e readers for me in this generation.
Oh my. Prices on these two ebook readers are too painful for a retired pwd such as myself. Guess will have to look for a battery replacement for my old kindle.
I’ll be curious to see if Onyx releases a 13” with this screen. I’ll want that for reading comics. Screens this size are fine for manga, because that’s about the native size of the print edition, but western comics are printed on a much larger page.
I want it for comics too. Right now I use an iPad mini which has been working fine because I pinch and zoom mostly. Since the nova 3 is a little bit bigger (very slightly) and also does pinch and zoom, I think I should be fine
If the Inkpad Color was water resistant, I would have my ideal e-reader. Until then I’m happy with my Inkpad 3 Pro. Onyx with no waterproofing, page buttons and with no Neoreader for iOS is a hard pass for me.
Yo tenía él ónix antiguo, era bueno pero caro, y algo deficiente en software y estética, supongo ahora mejoro; el mejor era el Sony reader lastima que desapareció
Trouble is the pocket book has a plastic screen, so not as rebust, also as its not flush, cannot clean as well as dirt will eventually get built up and cannot fully get dust and dirt out of the corners
Actually, during our testing, as well as using a.. kind of microscope-ey type thing, we have come to the conclusion that the sharpness is better on eating screens, but the vibrancy is better on Des
3:27. This DOES NOT look like they are the same file. Not using the exact same file would taint the visual comparison... and... If this IS the exact same file the total disappearance of the reds and whites on the right side would be a major flaw in that device.
It's the same file and same screen. There's the extra layer of glass to make it flush and the Wacom layer that might block or discolor a bit of light (thus the grey vs white issue mentioned early on), but they should be capacity of the exact same colors plus or minus a slight greying. The point they were trying to make at then end is that the defaults seem to be vastly different so you might have to fiddle a bit more with the Boox to get it to look as good.
@@goodereader Can't you see that these are two different pictures? The picture in PocketBook is missing the text "Previews: Tops Heritage ..." etc. on the cover. And the barcode is missing at the bottom right. So comparing two different pictures is nonsense.

THIS is the comparison I've been waiting for.
There’s also another reviewer who did this comparison
Exactly what I was hoping for, thank you. I appreciate your work.
Pocketbook looks better and isn't Chinese, an instant win.
The pocketbook supports Koreader, which is a fully fledged reader (of many many formats) and receives regular updates every month
you should turn off the contrast in onyx reader, not the system level contrast but in reader. otherwise it makes the image look darker

Finally we reach the point I was waiting for. Color ebook readers and 7.8'' screens. Now let's wait for more options so prices drop a bit.

Lol
Despite all my rage, i am still Nicolas Cage.
me checks the prices : GOD DAMN !!!
Go pocketbook! 😚
You forgot to say about Buttons for control, if your sensor screen would stop to work, you wouldn't be able to do anything with your onyx boox, but you can continue with buttons at your pocketbook
Damn it.. now I've gotta buy a onyx color as well, but I wish the screens were a little bigger

Love the onyx 👍👍👍👍
What is the feel of both of these devices in the hand? Do they have silicone backs or metal or glass? What about how they sit in their cases?
Oh my. Prices on these two ebook readers are too painful for a retired pwd such as myself. Guess will have to look for a battery replacement for my old kindle.
May i know where do you download the manga .? Thanks

Kaleido 3 or 4. They won't be releasing one this year

Can you read kindle books on them
Can I write on it too?
Onyx all the way. Tempted to get one now. Are they even out yet?
Yea u can buy it from the box store

They really need to work on making yellow brighter and more pure.

The pocket book does have an SD card slot tho :)
Trouble is the pocket book has a plastic screen, so not as rebust, also as its not flush, cannot clean as well as dirt will eventually get built up and cannot fully get dust and dirt out of the corners
Think onyx 3 to me looks slightly sharper with slightly better colours

а одинаковые настройки контраста и цвета не осилил поставить, тямы не хватило
pocketbook looks nicer. however i trust boox
The pocket book has Bluetooth audio doesn't it? :)
Yes

but its a different pdf file tho
Exact same from the same folder
