  • Alice Cooper - who do you think we are and You're a movie as performed in Paris 1981
I have included the interview & two tracks missing from other versions, I have included the original titles, which are at the end as most people will not watch them. Presented in correct 4.3 aspect ratio, most other versions on RUclips are stretched to 16.9. Received from a contact at a Scandinavian TV station in 1997 on Maxell HGX Black VHS tape, PAL Hifi, recorded at SP. Tape archive 1567 saved to DVD 4002
Alice Cooper a Paris (more commonly known as Alice in Paris is a French television special starring Alice Cooper. A series of music videos of songs from his then-current album Special Forces with a few songs from Flush the Fashion and some older hits mixed in, several songs were re-recorded for the special ("Only Women Bleed", "I'm Eighteen", "Billion Dollar Babies", "School's Out") and have shown up as B-sides of singles with crowd noises mixed in to give the illusion that they were live recordings. The songs are performed in English, but one brief split-screen sketch features French dialogue as radio disc jockey Vincent Furnier (Cooper's real name) interviews Alice.
There has never been an official release, copies have been circulating amongst Alice Cooper fans for decades. Most copies are missing opening credits, (Present in this video) leading fans to refer to it under a variety of incorrect titles, including Alice in Paris, The Paris Special and 16 Tracks.

@@gurnblanston5000 It’s crazy how so many people are still in denial over Alice’s partaking of massive quantities of cocaine during this period. I still see it and hear it from people all the time… “no, Alice never touched anything but booze”… even years after Alice himself had admitted that he was freebasing coke on a regular basis during the early 80’s. He was seriously off his f’n head at this time. Looked like a painted corpse that suddenly sprung to life. It was arguably the most interesting point in his entire career, even though musically I’m much more partial to the original band (early 70’s). I’m glad he survived it.

Those are definitely the two best albums from the “blackout” era, in my opinion. I would include Flush The Fashion, but in truth there’s really only 3 songs on it that I like (though Clones is hands down one of his all time greatest singles). Zipper Catches Skin is a total waste. Definitely not essential. DaDa is amazing. It takes several listens before it gets it’s weird hooks in you, but once it does it never lets go. That album is easily the most unique and uncategorizable thing he’s done as a solo artist (Pretties For You is even more unique, but that’s the original band). It was also the last decent album he made for a very long time. I wasn’t a fan of his metal era.

Special forces is a brilliant criminally underated album, but it has to be listened to a few times to get it. On first listen it's a complete shock to any long time Alice fan. It's just so weird and different, but like a vintage wine it matures with age and it's a cooper classic. One of his best

@@laurencelevene4333 I don’t know. I got it right when it came out. After Flush The Fashion it wasn’t really much of a shocker. I could already tell it was kind of headed in that direction. What did catch me off guard was a couple of years later, when DaDa came out. To this day that album is really hard to classify. It’s a real standalone in Alice’s discography, even by “blackout” standards.

I think this may have been a turning point in that he started to adopt the sounnds of the times rather than make the sounds of the times. This of course continuses to this day, which is why he never could be as big as the Original Group or the Nightmare and Lace & Whiskey albums. Even the Goes to hell is too disco, but still very original given Wagner and Hunter.

At the time, I didn’t even know what to make of this. It was just… fucking weird. I mean, it’s still weird, but in hindsight it now makes a lot more sense since it finally came to light that Alice was freebasing cocaine daily (more like hourly) from roughly 1979 to 1983. Back then we had no idea, since Alice was somewhat famous for being a “booze only - no drugs” kinda guy. Personally I used to wonder if he was in the late stages of cancer back then.
