- This video shows how hard a big fluffy dog is to maintain. My Chow Chow, Mishka sheds hair too much. She is used to getting brushed daily. The key is to make her feel comfortable while brushing her. We use a variety of techniques such as using treats, using toys and playing with Mishka during her grooming sessions.
Expect to brush your Chow Chow three times a week to keep the coat in good condition and to keep loose hair from landing on your clothes and furniture. Chow Chows are heavy seasonal shedders, and the coat requires extra attention.
We are using a Dyson Vacuum cleaner to clean our carpet every day. I believe Dyson is the Best Vacuum for dog hair especially for double-coated dogs.

@@bedazzledlife9719 no I think I have the grizzly bear in the form of a malamute that loves attention, we used to live near a school and my dogs were so friendly but most people were scared of them. Once we had an incident of where they gotten called a bear, in reality they just wanted to say hello.)
Mishka in russian literally means Bear, that's a great name for such a dog😅

May I ask you a question... if someone rescues a dog and has no idea on the breed how do you know how to groom them? I rescued a dog a couple weeks ago and she looks like a fox or a mini(12lb) german shepherd. I have no clue if I should trim her fur or if I would do damage. I want to start home groomings like I do with my other dog but I'm worried I could cause damage to her coat.
@@HiIamChels can i tell u something, actually if u rescued dog or others.. Just ask the ppl u know.. Maybe they will know what breed or animals is u rescued😃😃😃
@@HiIamChels hey!! Maybe they’re mixed with a Spitz. If they have any shepherd in them you’re going to want to get a rubber brush atttt least to help you maintain the shedding and fur packing (to help your dog and your floors). If it’s a thicker coat you may need a brush with curved longer bristles. If the fur is longer than an 1 1/5 ish then then regular slicker brushes won’t reach their undercoat to scoop it out. Hope this helps!

How do you know when you’re done with a spot? I guess, what I’m trying to ask is, do you continue to brush until you get no fur, (in the brush)? Or just do it in sections for awhile? I never had a gorgeous fur ball, so I’m just curious.

That's right, I do it section by section in one line. once I get no fur, then I move to the next section. She's shedding heavily twice a year. We brush her 3,4 times a week and it's easier to maintain her coat with regular grooming sessions. We do it all at home and she's comfortable with it.
You brush until you can see every individual piece of fur spread easily, when spreading a coat like a chow chows, you’ll see little dust like thin undercoat that needs to be brushed out that’s the only fur that needs to be taken off

Oh yes, I remember those orange furballs lol. Our orange chow had so much around her eyes, she began having eye problems later in life. I miss our Tigger so much 😪 Love your Mishka! ❤️
I like how she’s actually properly brushing this dog too. I worked in a salon and saw too many dogs matted due to incorrect brushing. They say they brush them everyday, but you can tell they only brush the top layer then everything underneath is completely matted.

So adorable! We rescued a Chow Chow at 3 1/2 years old. To groom her takes both my husband and I because she thinks she is being abused or something. They used to take her into be groomed 2-4 times a month. She is now 15 1/2 yrs old and we only groom her when it is absolutely necessary. She screams and cries like she is being beat. It is sad because she was abused by her previous owners mom's bf... We have given her a good life and she loves going camping in the woods and at the ocean!
Aww reminds me of my Oso .. he was the same color and just a big ol teddybear of a Chowchow 😍take all the fur you collect to a forested area and disperse it along tree trunks as the birds use the fur as a warm, soft filling for their nests ..

I've had 5 Chows, smooth coat and rough coat....they all shed seasonally but they also have an undercoat which is actually what you see in this video...the undercoat never ends! However Chows are my fav dog ... they have so many other great things about them...They rarely have doggy smell, naturally potty trained, very smart, loyal/protective, independent etc.
Doing this everyday to my chow and it is very painful 😭
I can’t fathom doing this every day with my schedule, 2 times a week is all that I can handle and oh boy is it a hassle with the amount he sheds
@@Emily-ug5xm maybe don't get a breed that requires a lot of time and energy if you don't have that. It's just going to be bad for the dog at the end of the day.
Lots of breeds are much more low maintenance.

@@Ravioliyt not really if she’s doing it twice a week it just means her house is gonna be covered in dog hairs it’s not gonna affect the chow chow because the hair doesn’t knot like a saymond dog or poodle also chow chow don’t require a lot of Energy they are incredibly lazy. Some people brush them once a week

As an apprentice dog groomer thank you for taking care of her coat, many people take dogs in to my place of work and they are shocked as to why they have a matted and dirty dog but its because they never even run a brush through their coat
