THANKS for making this video. Actually i made music for 20 years and never really understood the parallel compression trick. Now i do, just by watching 8 minutes of video. I am going to use this forever!! :)
hi there ! the real effect window starts with the line where "INIT - Solid Dynamics" is written. anything above this line (like copy / paste / undo / Side Chain: / Manual /...) belongs to your mixing DAW, e.g. Studio One, Cubase, Pro Tools. MASCHINE 2.x is a nice tool to compose a piece of music, but it's NOT a real DAW 🙂
Danke!!!
How do you route your side chain to a track in ableton live 10? My solid dynamics does not show an option to choose where to side chain from as it does in logic.
In the Ableton Live window set your "Audio Output" Routing in the Mixer Channel from your Kick or DrumRack to that track where your compressor device is. I use an extra Kick-track for sidechain and set the output to "Sends Only". At this way you have more control.
Hay dude, I have tried this but the problem is I also have the sound of the kick coming out of the compressed channel as well as the instrument i'm compressing (synth pad or whatever) and obviously if you mute the kick channel it doesn't work???
I really doubt that any daw isn´t capable of routing in and outputs. ruclips.net/video/xACa6CHBPjY/видео.html maybe this can help - or else try searching youtube for this. I trust it will be there :)
Release time is not an absolute specific time it takes for the compressor to "release" but a rate of change (yes, the fact it's cited in milliseconds is deeply misleading). If the compressor is doing, say 12 dBs of gain reduction and the input suddenly falls below the threshold it is going to take more time for the compressor to release (return to doing 0 dBs of gain reduction) than if it had only been doing 6 dBs of gain reduction. So the whole exercise is pointless.
Two cars both going 60 mph are going take different amounts of time to go different distances. In a similar manner, two compressors with the same release settings are going take different amounts of time to "release" different amounts of gain reduction!
Why does this video show up under search results for "Supercharger"?? How do you define the source for the NI Supercharger?!? The manual sure does not explain this, so why is this tutorial tagged for something it does not explain? NOT helpful!
Finally someone who explains it in a way I understand it :) Thanks!

What kind of music have you made ? Where can we hear your stuff ?
Brilliant video and explanation!
Awesome explanation! And it’s great to hear Richard Osman do audio tutorials...
Excellent information...very well explained ..Bravo
When using a standalone Komplete instrument such as Empire Breaks, is there a way to sidechain the kick to compress a pad in another group?
Nice track by the way
Very good explanation! I knew the gist of sidechaining but this video really took it to the max. Thanks for the calculation hack too! ha
so this is how many producers do it huh?... Glad I finally found it. Now I can finally experiment with dubstep!!
Great, and now sidechain in Cubase 9?
Hi there, can you Tell me how i can choose/activate the sidechainsource for the Solid Bus comp in Cubase 11? Thanks a lot Dan
great tutorial!!!
Great video!
you know its gonna be a good production video when there's a fucking calculator in the thumbnail
Is it possible to listen to that track?
Thank you for that calculation!
My NI solid compressor doesn't have the assignment menus at the top. How to route side chain signal??

Hi there. Great, but how it works in Cubase Pro 9.5?
I read in some forums that SC doesn't work for NI vst effects in Cubase because they're not VST3.
As it is to be only vst2
Your sidechaining doesn`t work in Cubase. Any fix to that?
Super!!!!

Awesome, thanks!
How can I select the side chain audio track in Ableton? Not info about it in user manual ...

thanks
I testet it. It seems sidechaining works only in Logic as an AU Plug-In. Very sad.
I really doubt that any daw isn´t capable of routing in and outputs.

20 ms is not 0.2 s but 0.02 s !!

Don’t use compressor. Use LFO tool made by Xfer. You will get better results much faster.
I dont agree totally.. yes as an effect, as a mix tool no.
at minute 5:30: 0.62s ≠ 62.5ms just saying
That setting is obviously not available thought that was obvious 🙄
