I Love the idea of telling a story in the stitch. My mother was a crochet stitcher and she made the most beautiful embroidered projects with my father in the 70’s that it actually took me into little projects many seasons later. I like this idea an awful lot to leave a legacy of knowledge through stitching for my family! Thank you so much for the idea of journaling in the most easiest way! God Bless You! Tamia!!!
I just recently found your channel and am going back watching everything. We seem to share a very similar style and I just love it. And the project you are doing here, your shawl, and the things visible behind you. Just right. Very nice channel.
It's very nice to see your love for crafts. The many small details bring the embroidered garden to life. Its very beautiful, I am amazed and enchanted, inspired and i love your handmade sewing journal so much ❤
Your videos are a breath of fresh air allowing the fabric and thread to tell their own story! Your stitching is adorable and really want to see and learn more. Thank you. 🌷
Thank you so much. It's so kind of you to say that. I'm planning to make more videos. I have a whole long term project planned that I want to do for myself and making videos will keep me motivated, especially when I get nice comments like this
Hi Dawn! Your video popped up in my Recommendations! So great to see your face and hear your voice. Love the videos! I hope we get the chance to art together again someday.
It's a hard habit to break when we've been taught to do something a certain way over our lifetime. Really, what terrible thing do we think will happen if we make a mess? The thing is, it's like Yoda said, this is not something you can "try", you either "do" or "do not".
I searched for left handed hand stitching and you came up, thankfully. Right away I was drawn to your style and video. I injured my right hand and over use causes pain. Yesterday I decided to do hand stitching/ slow stitching/ embroidery left handed so when my hand needs a break I can continue one of my passions. Misti you have double blessed me today. I have been wanting to do a continuous strip like yours and how fantastic to show my beginnings of left-handed hand stitching and how it changes with practice and loving the lessons I learn from mistakes I make. Your style is right on for me. Of course, I will not copy you I will learn techniques and be inspired by you. Thank you Misti.
Again, thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you find my videos inspiring and helpful. I know you will make beautiful, imperfect, flawed, but nonetheless beautiful things.
I couldn't be more delighted to have come across your videos. Thanks so much for your inspiring work. I'm already imagining what I can do to make one of these beautiful creations while learning to slow stitch. Seems like this would be a great project to take along on a trip.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. If you are new to slow stitching, maybe you'd like to join in on the underwater stitchy along that I have going on my Ko-fi page. We started in January making lots of different little fish and for this month, we've moved on to "coral", but all the fish videos are still available. No pressure, you can jump in and out whenever it suits you and you can do as much or as little as you like. The details are here: ko-fi.com/misti_ko/tiers
Thank you I have done many things but this has been an absolute blessing so beautiful and relaxing I don’t want to go to work but just sit and stitch thank you again x
Love your scroll, I like your way of doing this. I've got so many scraps and embroidery threads. I'm just going to wing it and get started. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
Thank you for sharing your game with threads it’s has encouraged me to go further than ever before playing thread chicken and if I don’t make it I can start a new thread I’m loving your influence on me thanx ❤️🥰❤️
I absolutely love your work!!!😍 I am an artist, I love to do pretty much anything that my imagination leads me to using mixed media (fabric, felt, paint -specially watercolour- ink, paper, metal, wire, beads, buttons, etc.)👩🏻🎨🎨✂️🧵🧶🧷 I’m a lefty too and as I left handed embroider i can tell you that I’m really happy coming across with your channel. ☺️ I’ve instantly subscribed. You have inspired me to give a go in creating my own embroidered botanical project indeed! 🧵✂️ Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful and whimsical embroidery. Namaste!🙏🏼🤩
Thank you. Nice to meet another leftie. I like to do all the things too. Maybe you've noticed, if you've watched a few of my videos. If you are interested, I have an underwater themed make along. All the details are here: ko-fi.com/misti_ko/tiers. You are welcome to join in.
This is wonderful and exactly what I was looking for! I have subscribed and am ready to do a deep dive into all your videos. I'm so glad to have discovered you and your wonderful work.
I hope you do have a go! Several people have asked if I offer on-line classes, so I'm hatching a plot for a "make along" type thing - likely with a different theme though as I'm all gardened out at the moment
This is gorgeous and so much creative fun! How will the finished scroll be used or displayed when you feel like it's finished? (if you can bear to call it finished)! (and then I just realized this video was posted a year ago...so...)
Thank you. I don’t have any plans to use or exhibit it. I make things because making them gives me pleasure. It’s about the process for me and the end result is less important to me
Truly lovely work! You mentioned you don't like to pin the little bits of fabric when you're securing them. Is it possible to use a lightly tacky adhesive to hold them in place? If so, is there a specific product you suggest over all others? If so, which and why? Would that make the thread tangle and make the needle gummy? What about hairspray? Would that work?
Thank you for the suggestions. It's actually a personal preference to not tack down the bits of cloth. I'd rather do things in the most simple way without having to buy more "stuff". I also like the randomness and variability I get when the pieces shift slightly.
@@mistikomakes oh, no! I didn't mean those as suggestions for you! You have clearly found what works best for you. :) I was asking for your recommendations as a newbie bc I don't think I'll be comfortable holding the material in place while learning to hand stitch at the same time. Do you have any recommendations or tips for keeping the little scraps in place while I fumble?
@@NoYBW Oh, I see. Actually any of those solutions that you came up with yourself might work. You could try them out and see what happens. In this project, I'm using such tiny pieces of cloth that they aren't too floppy and if I make a stitch or two in the middle they are pretty much secured and stay in place.
As a lefty embroiderer, my thread twists up like yours does. Wonder if it is a common problem to everybody or just lefties? I stop occasionally and just give the needle a few twists back to untwist the thread.
Interesting observation, I've never thought about it before. It likely has to do with the direction that the thread is spun (either clockwise or counterclockwise), which would no doubt, like so many things, favour right handed people. When I remember, I let the threads dangle to untwist
Thanks. I’m not sure what you mean about securing the back. I either put knot in the end of my threads or I do a few small overlapping stitches. They don’t usually come loose and if they do that’s easy enough to deal with
On some of my cross stitching that I know will be handled I usually cover the backing with a light mixture of water and glue just to help hold it together.

I'm happy to have you here!
Gorgeous work. You make it look so simple, but it's not. Hugely sophisticated and complex. Such talent!
Thank you very much! It really is simple - well, not complex anyway. Mostly it's a matter of doing it - and not judging to quickly.

Just discovered you and I love your little stitch roll!👏🏻🎉thanks for sharing!
Welcome!!
I must try to not be so perfect. Y being a little more random gives a more natural finish. Thank you for this very helpful video.

It happens to right handed sewers also and I also let the needle hang down so it unravels.
@@kaymaudsley2439 good to know!
How wide is your ribbon of mussline?
I don’t know I haven’t measured it. Maybe 2 inches or 5cm
Very petty work.
Thank you! 😊
Love what your doing thankyou how wide is the fabric please
Thanks. I haven't measured it, but I think it is about 2 inches (5 cm) tall and maybe 9ft (3m) long.
Very pretty! What do you use the scroll for?
I use it as a workshop example
