  • It's been a month of heavy use at home and playing out, but I finally feel ready to give my thoughts on the new Omnis Duo from Alpha Theta (Pioneer DJ).

    The omnis duo is a great standalone box but you mentioned major flaws that were an oversight . The Fx select being on the screen is the deal breaker for me .

      Yeah that sucks about it. Especially if you’re quick mixing. Otherwise it’s nice controller.

      Yeah, it’s a big turn off. Also if you have sweat in your hands and water gets on the screen it could make it hit a bunch shit you don’t want to tap

      Lmfao how about testing one out before sounding stupid. It's a fantastic controller. I have no complaints about it.

      @michaellynch8612 i already mentioned its a great controller. I own tons of pioneer dj gear from pro gear to rmx stations to controllers the whole lot. The FX having to be channel selected on the screen is an oversight.. that means every time you need to apply effects you use the two to three on screen presses on to get the channel. I love it and its a beautiful.

      @mixx_factory you don't you only open the effects screen if you changing a different effex. Problem.is you don't own one or even try it out to see for yourself. I have one and I think it's one of the best decisions I've made and it's a novelty in djing itself . Something alot of people overlook. The omnis duo is basically cdj 3000 and opus quad having a baby .

    The opus quad is 🔥 i lve it

    Master metering was an oversight for sure. And i dont need the bluetooth. They could find a way to swap those to beat fx .

    Looks slick! It's nice that they're going for a more minimal look. I'm hesitant, leaning towards the Mixstream Pro Go since it has a built in speaker which is a + for preparing sets anywhere. Denon Prime Go gets a lot of love, it's just a bit tiny, visually looks like DJs are operating an iPad or smth. Great review, thanks!!

    Great review. I also preordered a omnis duo and have been using it a lot. Personally I think you don’t emphasize enough how good the sound quality is compared to the XDJ standalone units. I think there is special hardware compression to improve the Bluetooth signals to levels comparable to tracks mastered professionally way more than. In Traktor/Serato as well. You do misstate that the omnis duo connects to the wave 8 wirelessly without wires because the wave 8 has a dongle that the master/booth output goes to which then sends the signal to a Wave 8.

    • @Johodefo
      @Johodefo 5 месяцев назад

      What do you mean by „In Traktor/Serato as well“. You mean bluetooth quality is better than in those solutions?

    • @michaellynch8612

      The omnis duo sound quality is crazy . So damn crisp, I believe it's the same as the opus quad.

    Great review. Looks like an amazing controller, but I think $1500 is asking too much for this.
    Ive seen & played on other portable units like Numarks and Denon Dj, it's definitely a good budget option versus the Omis Duo.
    With $1500, i could get a DDJ 1000 or the FLX10, but to each to their own, whatever is convenient.

    Is it possible to pre-listen to tracks from the library (without loading the track into the deck). That is, the feature that is supported by 3000 when CUE Link is enabled on the mixer

    When you say you DJ do you mean Top 40 kinda DJ? or beatmatching EDM kinda DJ? or do you scratch Hip Hop and Breaks? As far as I'm concerned there are 3 types of music people can "DJ"... Liked the video just was curious what your DJ needs are, that would help me understand why you like this controller. Cheers!

    and what about the sound card. is it built-in? and is it enough for performances on the terrace or near the pool? or will I have to (better) buy a sound card separately?

    Hi Tarekith, I am always into trance music 🎶? But, I always wanted to be a DJ? I’m zero nothings about what to start? For the last two months? I been looking for a DJ controller? So, Alpha Theta Omnis Duo all in one would you recommend for me? Again, no experience and how to start? Guess, this unit would just let me play all my favorite DJ artists that I have been following them ever since? ❤🎶🎼🔊😌🔥

      Get the DDJ-400. It's cheap and it was designed to get you accustomed to the layout of the club equipment. You do need a laptop with Rekordbox though. But buying such an expensive device like the Omnis Duo for a start would be an unnecessary gamble in case your interest in djing fades shortly after trying it out. I mean, it happens. Just to be clear, I got myself the DDJ-400 three years ago when I started djing and used it heavily since then. I'm only now considering the Omnis Duo for when I have the money to spare and by now I already know that I'll be djing for the next 10-20 years at least.

    I’m torn. The industrial design is nice but it seems like a huge downgrade usability wise compared to their older controllers. These things should be tools to be used not design objects to be looked at.

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  Месяц назад +1

      I disagree on the useability bit, it’s a nice focused set of controls for standard A/B style mixing. A lot of DJs like myself don’t need much else, so other controllers just feel cramped and busy with things I’ll barely use. I think the Omnis is just targeting a different style of DJ compared to some of their previous controllers.

    I just received it and been playing music off the USB and Recording on the same USB. Have you had any issues doing this? Any best way to record straight to iPhone, haven't tried plugging it straight to USB-C and see if it would record.

    Thanks for the review! I'm strongly considering this, and I know you said you didn't want to fumble around with a laptop, but I am curious about how the on-screen FX work if it's plugged into a laptop, are you able to speak to that at all?

    • @tarekith
      @tarekith  4 месяца назад +1

      I've never used a laptop with it, sorry. The effects should work the same though, you're just reading tracks from the laptop and not the SD card or USB stick.

    I came across this unit over the weekend and I didn't like it. Maybe it's because I'm used to certain functions that this unit is missing. It doesn't have a pitch -/+ bend and a gain knob for each channel.
