    Hi David, I just want to tell you that I enjoy your teaching. I have followed your Raspberry Pi Home server series and also your CasaOS series and I started your OMV6 also, but I had already drank the kool-aid of Proxmox. I am hooked on Proxmox. I have used an old i5-3470 with 16Gb RAM and 1.5 Tb of storage and created this Proxmox Server. It is truly amazing how much I can run on this system now. I remember replacing it in 2020 due to it running slow and I couldn't get it to hardly anything. Now it is my favorite again. You keep doing what you are doing. I appreciate you and what you do. And I will continue to follow your content. Thanks again

    Ive been watching your videos for a while and they are VERY helpful. I'd like to see one on how to backup your PMB server backups and restore from them. i.e. you lose your PVE and PMB server hardware, so you have to build anew, but you made offsite backups of your PMB backups.

    If you created template by accident and you don't have backup. Create VM/CT from that template in to fully working VM/CT. Delete Template and use newly create VM/CT as your new starting point.
    In my proxmox i have all CT starting with 1, VMs - 2, Things i am running for others 3, When i am just messing around - 6 and my templates starts with 9. Everything sits nicely inside side panel and easy to pick what i want.
    Backups goes in to 3TB HDD once a day. I keep 3 last versions of the backup. and once a week these backups goes in to NAS.

      This was just an example of why someone might want to run a backup: I messed up a container and want to go back to a time before I messed it up.

      @@DBTechYT Don't get me wrong. Your video is on point. I would be doing same if i had proxmox backup server running. My comment is more to everyone else in case they end up in the same situation and has no proxmox server.

    Hi David! qq.. what is the diff of having the backups in pvebackup instead of using a remote directory in a nas?

    • @maplenerd22
      @maplenerd22 2 года назад +2

      One of the main difference is that Proxmox Backup Server will do deduplication on the data. So instead of backing up multiple copies of the same data, it only saves the changes. This saves a lot of disk space. A Proxmox Backup Server connected to PVE will also allow you to do a file restore within a VM/CT.

    Used your content to setup my server with all the dockers you recommended, very happy with the setup behind tailscale, justnot having https is a pain sometimes. I know now its possible to have https over tailscale with caddy but can't seem to get it working, any chance there is going to be a howto on this?

    Huh, I didn't know that you can restore the container to a different proxmox host...is that a new feature of proxmox v7? I'm pretty sure it wasn't possible with v6..that's nice. Now I actually have a better reason to get back to proxmox...thanks! :)

    My only problem with this too is that it deletes the old volumes. If you have a container with 2 volumes, where they are in two different disks, it will put both volumes in the same disk and delete the old volume. In my case, one of the volumes is where I put all the data and because of that I lose all the data from one of the volumes. It should ask If I want to delete the old volumes.

      Login to Proxmox. Click "Datacenter" in the left column at the top. Then click "Storage" in the new panel that shows up in the right. Go to "Storage". Click the "Add" button/dropdown just up and to the right from there. You should be able find your drive and add it there.

      You could look at Veeam Agent for Linux. Install in pve terminal and it's basically a bare metal restore if your boot takes a dive. Can backup to network shares or local media on schedules. I've used their option for Windows and it worked well for scheduled backup and retention. Same principle here. Once I move from esxi I plan on having the pve os backup using Veeam and then have the proxmox backup server running in my truenas. Caveat I read was restore is thick only. Haven't tested myself but there should be a few reddit or RUclips videos on it.

      But you can't be bothered to explain what you mean by "but want clear explanation for all options". If you can't be clear about what you want, how is anyone going to help you get the answers you're not sure you're after?
