Unfortunately the game of hockey is played on both sides of the rink. Last year he was -11. That means he cheats for his offense to the detriment of the team and if you think that’s good, it’s why the team loses every year. The problem is the entire team underperforms and is never held accountable including Nylander. They kept a rookie coach through 4 pathetic playoff seasons now in a row. This was Nylander’s best showing but a small sample size… the common denominator is you need to get the best out of your players and the Leafs NEVER get that in the post season. It’s the coaches responsibility for that. The coach needs to beat the defensive systems of the other coach. The Leafs have talented players but if they aren’t being coached to do the right things or held accountable it doesn’t matter.

    • @disinformationworld9378
      @disinformationworld9378 4 месяца назад

Why not get an actual coach and see what he can do with the player before trading him. They should have done that years ago. The entire team underperforms every single playoff. I think Marner is playing bad but what the hell did the coach do about it? What was the plan? The plan was just keep failing over and over and do nothing. He didn’t have a strategy to adjust anything because nothing changed and the player was never punished for it either. This is way bigger than a single player issue. The entire team sucked every year on offense. The game scores speak for itself. And goaltending is bad every year. Every single time. Fix the goaltending and coaching and that would make the biggest difference. Marner is capable of so much more. That’s on the coach for not getting more. Aside from that the culture of accepting losing from management has been a problem. Losing every game seven and still they haven’t fired the coach or made any significant changes. Or even got a stable goaltending option.
All you have to do is look at what wins in the Playoffs. The Leafs had runs to conference finals when they had good coaching and good goaltending and decent offensive talent. The Leafs have 1 of the 3.
Trading Marner isn’t going to solve anything. They will simply be a worse team and lose even more. Just wait and see. He wasn’t the main problem here.

    • @disinformationworld9378
      @disinformationworld9378 4 месяца назад +1

Getting rid of Marner isn’t the answer. The whole team never delivered in the playoffs. Now is that because every player doesn’t know how to play in the playoffs or because they had a rookie coach. PP sucked every playoff and so did the offense. If the players can’t do it for a real coach with a real goaltender in the net, then you can talk about getting rid of players. The cap management issue is a factor but this team has a simple fix: fix the coaching and fix the goaltending. Woll is not the answer if he keeps getting injured either.

Culture of losing. Keefe lost every series except when opposing goalie couldn’t stop anything. The players underachieved every single year. That’s the coaches responsibility to get the best out of the players. The PP sucked every post season. That’s on the coaching staff. The Leafs couldn’t score every post season. That’s on the coaching. They kept giving a pass to a rookie coach who never held players accountable or made any meaningful adjustments to win a series. I also blame the team for getting bad goaltending every playoff year. The entire team underperformed which tells you it’s a coaching problem. Why shouldn’t the Leafs have a coach who actually has won the damn thing? Why keep going with a losing culture. They lose every game 7. It’s pathetic. Beyond ridiculous that this has gone on for so long. Culture of losing. Keefe should have been gone after Montreal series. Why was this coach given a pass for that? Two more years of pathetic playoff results, what did you expect? Trading Marner just makes the team worse. It won’t accomplish anything except more losing. The coaching staff failed to get the players playing to their capabilities. If a new coach cannot get results then you can say which players can stay and go. Bottom line is the entire team stank and was miserable on offense. The entire team. And please shut up about Nylander who was -11 last year. That is not a good playoff performance for goodness sakes. Problem is the fans and media can’t figure out what the real issues were. Bad coaching and bad goaltending.

Keefe has poorly coached this team for a very long time. He overvalued Jarnkrok and Holmberg way too much. Their numbers are horrible yet they play big minutes in important positions. Holmberg is barely an nhl player, a strong breeze knocks him off the puck. Jarnkroks shooting percentage is awful or he puts in right on the goalies number's. Let him just play the penalty kill if need be. Now take a player like Robertson who produces more on less minutes. And we reward him by either sending him down or lampooning him on a 4th line.
He may not kill the penalty but the leafs have plenty of players to fill that role.
Early in the series, samsonov was getting beat easily and not able to even spot the play, yet it took a last ditch effort to put woll in.
During the season, we lost every overtime that kampf started.
His line pairings don't match north vs south skaters vs lateral skaters.
The list goes on and on.

You don’t need to “break up the core”. Tavares contract is gone after 1 year. They don’t have to resign him. Regardless he will be coming off the books. That leaves 3.
The reason it’s “not working” is they bring back the same coach every year when he has proven he cannot win in the playoffs. Why does scoring and PP disappear every year? What adjustments did Keefe make to score in the playoffs? Putting aside even that question: why have we never seen the Leafs play their best hockey in the post season? Trading Marner is the dumb answer. What can another coach get out of this roster. Keefe should have been let go after the Montreal series. They established a losing culture. It’s pathetic and I am sick of it.
Leafs used to win most game 7’s. Now they lose all of them. They let a rookie coach fail for how many years in a row? There is no reason the team shouldn’t have a cup winning pedigree from their coaching position. The Leafs did the best in the playoffs when their coach was a top coach. And yes, they need to address the goaltending. They have enough offense they just need to address goaltending and coaching. Defense was fine in the playoffs this year without breaking the bank.
Imagine constructing a team where the goaltending is suspect every year and the team doesn’t have a power play every playoffs every year and you have a rookie coach. And then you never fire him or fix the problems. What genius thinks this was a reasonable strategy to contend for a cup??
I was never a fan of the Tavares signing. I wanted them to keep drafting. They never drafted a blue chip defenseman since Rielly and look at how many years that burned them.

What if Joseph Woll didn’t get hurt? Makes me think the outcome could have been different? I don’t think it really isn’t a stretch, to say Boston got off pretty lucky, because Woll was on a role, with that 970 save percentage. The Leafs are a cursed franchise. There’s always something that comes around and bites them.

It's pretty easy guys, how they played the last 3 games, but with better players, minus a softy or two in the core 4, and you get to the conference finals every year. And maybe one cup before Mike croaks. Also, getting them to waive is easy, have them call any of the other smart Canadian players that refuse to play in Toronto. And they'll change their tune quickly.

Shanny bought into PR boy for too long, but bringing in Tree is a good move towards new direction. I don't Shanny needs to go, just Marner and Tavares back at $4 mil or less and not as Captain. One more year of tinkering before real change can come. No offers on the table for Marner before end of next year's playoffs, last show me chance even it means just letting him walk. If they can get something for him great, if not saving the $12mil ask is worth savings...

I remember watching Don Cheery's Bruins go down year after year to the Canadians. I was a hard core Leaf fan but I felt so bad for the Bruins who had a great team, problem was the Canadians were better. The Bruins were not better than the Leafs this year but won again. When your big boys don't produce and you have almost no depth scoring you cannot win. So you spend no money/high draft picks on goaltending and then bitch about goaltending insanity sets in. Canucks had three goaltenders who won at least once in their series with the Preds and their third stringer closed it out. You don't score goals with half your cap tied to goal scoring a change is needed. I would change the coaching, retain half the salary on their captain if he will move in his last year and maybe trade Marner if the price is right and he agrees to go.

Quinville will not coach in the NHL again. Leafs do not need this baggage. Leafs need a strong systems coach like Vancouver did. The GM has been changed the mistake was resigning Keith. Allow the GM to select the next coach. Mathews short term contract means he may have to get traded instead of Marner. But allow the new GM to build this team.

Have to comment, Boston didn’t have the fire power Toronto has. They won with Heart!
They don’t play the game on paper, but on the ice. The lack of a power play, and players not stepping up was the problem.
They should be thankful they lost anyway, Florida is going to have their way with Boston, but would of destroyed the Leafs.
Now lastly, The Wings will win a cup before Toronto, for sure… LGRW…

They need to trade Marner or Tavares and get a #1 goalie and a #1 defenseman. A player like a Duncan Keith or a Victor Hedman. You don't have to completely revamp the team. With a few additions they can be a contender.

Let's run it back once more. I'm not quite convinced they can't get it done.
I'd let Bertuzzi walk as he's just too expensive
    Leafs need a goalie
Leafs need a minute eating number 1 D man
Leafs need to rework the D
Let's stand up and clap for Knies. He's a lunch bucket player!
Nylander is consistently a good playoff performer. Plus, I love that he called out Marner
Resign Domi. He's a pest and can play
Wasting another year of Matthews contract isn't a good move. Time to ask Marner for a list of teams
Not much they can do about Tavares at this point. One more season and his hit comes off the books.
I think it time to move on from Shanahan. One series win in 9 tries just isn't good enough.
Give Keefe a pat on the back and a boot out the door.
No reason to move on from Treliving. He literally had a month to make club changing decisions. At the least, we know he wants more snot and this year we could really see a difference with this.

You cant blame goaltending on a topheavy team that doesnt produce come playoffs.
Mathews averages less than a point a game come playoffs. Inexcusable. Marner cant disappear quick enough. Captain invisible... none of them played well enough. Complete disappointment.
