    Thanks Tom.
    Very well explained.
    I've got to try this on the weekend. 450 EXC-R won't start when hot unless I'm bumping it.
    Let's hope it's as easy as you make it look ✌🏻✌🏻.

      These engines are designed to be serviced pretty easily. I did find on another occasion that the exhaust side is a bit more of a pain but still easier than some other engines. Good luck.

    For the first timer this can be intimidating. It is actually one of the fun parts of owning a motorcycle. Watch Tom's video and RTFM also (G=get) GTFM. A manual is a great tool even if your not working on it yourself. You can see what your mechanic is charging you for. As always great instructional video Tom!

      I've just been online and Brought the tools I need. I do have a question though. I'm looking for a shim kit. Would a known brand like hot cams be better then a cheaper unbranded kit. Would it make a difference?

      @@bpallies I think 10% is probably okay, keep an eye on it and maybe start preparing for a top end.

    What size shims do I need for a 2008 530 KTM and what should clearance be

    • @TomsTinkeringandAdventures
      @TomsTinkeringandAdventures  3 года назад

      It should be in your manual, possibly on the frame so please double check there but I believe this is your info: Intake 0.1 to 0.15 mm and Exhaust 0.1 to 0.17 mm. The valve shims should be the 10mm set, you can purchase a kit online to make your life much easier, or individual shims from the KTM or Harley dealership (Harley used them on the V-Rod).

    kick start. Starter works great, turns enegen well but need 2 second sometimes 3. What do you think, does Valve adjustment help? Ktm exc 450 2012

      @@MRR7 Hello, I have a 2009 KTM exc-r.
      I had that same problem. It was hard for him to start.
      The problem was that I had too much light in the valves (0.25 exhaust) and the decompressor did not work correctly.
      With a valve adjustment the problem was solved.
