So nice of Jamie's upstairs neighbors to always drop a bowl down the hole in their floor whenever he demands it
It's to make up for all the noisy vacuuming they do, lol!
@@cathylacroix1497At least there were no Emergency Services sirens today!
Right? That's amazing. 😜
@@gerardacronin334 Now that you mention it, ya. It's rare to find a recent Jamie video he doesn't say, "hope everyone's ok." (tm) Good point. I hadn't noticed the absence of that hallmark. My bad.
I thought the bowl came from the baking Gods. ❤
Jamie has just the right amount of competence, incompetence and nervous breakdown to be completely relatable.
As much as the recipes are a test for Jamie, Jamie is a test for the recipies: he just follows them. To the letter. If it fails, who's to blame? I'd say the recipe maker.
That basically sums it all up… everything… all of it. 10/10 comment 👏🏻
Every time this man uploads a video about making a cake, I already know it's going to be hilarious.
He never disappoints
Desert is my fav of Anti Chef
That and the hodgepodge of unexpected guest stars are the draw for me. I appreciate carry on.
This may be the most honest baking show for those of us who are enthusiasts yet afflicted by incidents most call mishaps. Most relatable cook on youtube.
Especially when something goes wrong and he’s mad about it 🤣
@@gagamba9198😂 agreed. I tried making those little Square cakes Omb what a mess and at least Jammie doesn’t give up like I did 😂
I didn't think the "I'm not driving" bit would be beat, but the Silver Fox hop bit is my new favorite.
the second lil "the silverfox" jump is the best lol
Yeah. Love the Star Trek type arrival of the appliances too!
Me too
The “Silver Fox Hop” always makes me smile😊
Agreed!!!!
Jamie absolutely does not know what "pulse" mode on a blender is
I thought the same thing. But really, who cares, he's so much fun to watch.
He just does one really long pulse
My dog's name is Pancake and he is really enjoying this episode. He gets so happy every time Jamie says Pancake 😂
I love this name!
@@trinleywangmo My son has wanted a small fluffy dog to name Biscuit (no idea why). When we found this smooth-coated puppy, he said "He's like a less fluffy Biscuit...like a pancake!" And the name stuck 😊
Just something I've noticed with cakes with a filling:
Make a little border of frosting (use a piping bag) and then add in the filling and you shouldn't have that problem! Just something I've noticed with cake decorating. I love your videos and they always bring a smile to my face!
THIS!
Ya, I think the icing was just too soft for this type of cake. The cakes were too heavy, but that’s not Jamie’s fault. More the recipe maker’s
Even though I know he’s going to do it…. I still laugh every time he jumps and announces “silver fox” 😅
every. time. it's the happiest part of my night when watching when i literally laugh out loud
Hi Jamie! Some friendly old lady advice from way back when they had girls take a class called Home Ec. Before you decorate your cake, place two pieces of either wax paper or parchment paper...one piece on each side and dividing the platter in half. When you finish decorating or frosting, you slide each piece out from under the cake and voila! Your platter is clean 😁
Yup. When i learned that trick it made decorating so much easier and more fun since there were fewer dishes to wash. I also learned that less is more when putting frosting between layers, and that making a border with frosting is the way to go with jamy fillings. So many of the tips and tricks you learned when you were younger are still widely used today, and bring more joy to the baking and decorating world.
Another Quick and Easy nervous breakdown with Jaime and the sympathetic viewers who need to lie down after every death defying episode. This was a very weird concoction. 3 cheers for our intrepid host. I enjoy watching how his 'mise en place' just gets better and better. Hugs to you all Jim Mexico
Very accurate description of it and him and us 😂❤
I ♥️ this comment
You could do voice-over of his videos 😂.
13:23 Whenever he puts something over there....I think of Scott 🐌
RIP Scott!
the lore!!!! 🥹
I'm in the UK. I love this fella - he makes a mess and he doesn't worry about it ! I've been watching your videos for a long time now and I'm always happy to see a new one !
I think it's the very fact that he is messy that makes his videos so enjoyable - he's not polished to tv perfection. 😊
I’m in Ireland and he cheers me up every week and believe me when I say that there’s not a lot in my life to be cheerful about
A lot of the world's problems could be solved iif the US switched to metric
“The Silver Fox” and “The Whiz Kid” are truly the best names! You did great! Liam was an awesome contestant!
Jamie, for the love of all that is holy, please, please, please invest in some cardboard cake boards. They cost like $6 and will save you so much grief. While you are at it, go to the hardware store and buy some wooden dowels and a pair of garden shears. Put the cake on the cardboard board, and once stacked, insert dowels, snip off excess dowel with the garden shears. This is what pro bakers do (although some use giant plastic straw looking things instead of the wooden dowels). It will make your life much easier and baking will be far less stressful for you. Want to transfer the cake? Put your spatula under the cardboard and move it easily.
While he's buying things, a basic cake leveller/cutter costs a pittance and would save him so much grief. Roughly the same height is not the same as level.
this is true but the recipes should state this
@apopheny Ikr. He invests in a bunch of specialty pans and ingredients. But a turntable, cake scraper and leveler are too much lol.
@baconegger1450 To be fair, cardboard rounds aren't necessary for home baking. Most recipes just tell you to stack/decorate on the serving plate or cake stand. Jamie's problem is he then insists on moving it to another plate when you can just wipe around the plate. Also, dowels are generally only needed for tiered or extra tall cakes which I've never seen Jamie do
@@chantalhamilton2374 The trick I was taught is to put strips of wax paper underneath the cake as you decorate and then pull them out after you've finished. That way the serving dish is clean.
Fun fact!
On 13:30 Jamie said something meaningless to stop the Silver Fox, but as a native Russian speaker I clearly hear the word "стой" ("stoy") and it literally means a request to stop.
It means the same in Czech and I assume in several other languages also (Polish and Slovak are my main suspects)
Liam was one of my favorite bakers on the show. Such a great, positive attitude.
Cake vs Jamie is my favorite series 😅 I know it's a challenge, but your persistent is not in vain. You're learning a lot and entertaining us at the same time. Thank you for your sacrifice, Sir!
I’m not seeing enough praise in here for good this cake turned out!!! You did so well Jamie, I was completely fooled by the thumbnail 😅
"I'm waning you now this is gonna get messy." That disclaimer could go in front of every video you make lol.
"Just not gonna give up without a fight" should be your tag line.
And a fight is pretty much guaranteed!
One suggestion- get some cake strips. They are fabric strips you soak in water and wrap around the outside of your cake pans. Cakes come out perfectly flat (no dome), and the edges never over bake. I started using these a few years ago. Game changer!
Yeah! He got that right tins to do it, so I wondered if they automatically came with them or not. 🤔
They also make silicone ones. Either type makes a big difference.
My dear sweet summer child… pipe a buttercream dam!!! Keeps the filling in one place and won’t gush out between the layers. And get a leveler, I’ll send you one even! You’ll be glad you used one (or just anything to get flat layers).
I love the new 'beam in' technology. Gotta get me some of that. Maybe for beaming in wine! Gentle tip for cake construction-- get thee a lazy susan/spinny thing. You can spin it while you're constructing/decorating. I always put my cakes on a construction paper circle, then that on the spinner, then build the cake on that. Then you can get a wide spatula or a chef knife under it and move it on to a fancy cake plate when you're done. Also, I always freeze my cake before frosting it. It's much less vulnerable to breakage that way.
"The content of this Silver Fox bowl may contain the most unhealthy thing I've ever made." Hon, I got diabetes by the time the marshmallows appeared. But what a glorious execution. Also, it's always nice to see you taking a deeper dive into the scientific side of baking.
Pro tip: when dividing dough/batter among several dishes, scale/weigh it. Best way to ensure equally sized cakes which bake at the same time
The scale is the baker’s best friend besides an oven thermometer
Fair play to you for the corn starch rolling. I'm a chef 10+ years and still screech if I have to deal with it. Got the shivers watching you
I just love the loon, brings a Canadian Heritage Minutes feel to your channel… a bit of the CBC 🤗
That and the Ten Second Tidy this episode. Big Comfy Couch lives in our brains.
I love that you are debunking the myth that cooks cannot bake and vice versa. You just do it and take us with you. ❤
a series where he tries to bake the technical challenges from the GBBO with the same directions the contestants have would be so fun
I love this idea!
I remember seeing the guy make it on the show. It looked amazing!
I remember Paul Hollywood staring at Liam doubtfully, and Liam saying "It'll be okay, Paul!"
I love it when The Silver Fox comes out to play. 😍
The Silver Fox jump brings me such joy.
As a person who is a great cook but a horrible baker I especially love these episodes. Thanks for the mess and all the work!🎉
I'm the same. Love cooking but baking is my arch nemesis.
I've got to admit it's nice to watch someone else suffer for a change.😂
I am the opposite. I am an accomplished baker, but cooking is not my favorite. I am decent, but unimaginative, and terribly impatient. I love elaborate meals like Thanksgiving and special occasions though.
Daaang! Especially for someone who doesn’t have much experience in cake decorating, you did a fantastic job! 👏
That turned out amazing Jamie🍰Bravo!!!!! Great job🤍
I would love to see you do recipes from Claire Saffitz's books! I am currently working my way through dessert person and its a lot of fun!
Her recipes are fairly easy. Good but easier than what he is doing
I was so afraid it was going to all come crashing down, but you saved it! Looks fabulous! ❤❤
Okay, this is the video that's going to make my day better! Jamie always makes me smile.
It's always nice to see somebody making a bigger mess than me when I cook... love the show ❤
Pecan rhymes with dawn. It's from an Algonquin word and that's the way it's pronounced according to that language's norms.
@@longarmoftheOOHLALA Do so with gusto.
Both!
A tip for layer cakes: bamboo skewers. Insert 3-4 vertically through the layers. No more Leaning Tower of Pisa cakes.
The ants are probably watching saying, “yes, Yes, YES! Give us all the spilled powdered sugar!” 😂
You pick the most ambitious cakes & this was a winner for sure.
I almost got discouraged when the cakes were stacked, but it turned out to be a great success!
Even if my Sunday’s seem mundane I can always count on Jamie to bring a big laugh 😂! Making Sundays fun .. Jamie.. The Anti Chef!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Liam got a presenting gig on Junior BO for that (and his humour).
gotta say man.. found you lookin up some clarity for JCs beef borg recipe and cant stop watchin.. watched the whole j&j series twice and now on to the starting from the beginning playlist.. you got a great thing goin man, cheers
Layer cakes are hard! This is coming from someone who makes a lot of layer cakes! A few tips:
1. For even layers you may consider purchasing cake strips/collars (which you wet and put around the pans) or baking the layers in a hot water bath. This will lead to a more even bake and prevent the cratering issue.
2. It's better to underfill the layers than overfill. As you experienced, the weight from the upper layers can cause the filling to squeeze our of the lower layers. Alternatively, you can pipe a buttercream "collar" around each layer and put it in the freezer to firm up before filling it. Another thing you can do is freeze the cake layers before you build which will make assembly easier.
3. A rotating cake stand for decorating makes coating the sides a heck of a lot easier! Cake boards are helpful for transferring the cake from one place to another. I also will sometimes use my bench scraper instead of my offset spatula to get perfectly even sides.
Honestly you did really well tackling a complex recipe! The Swiss Meringue buttercream was beautifully done, as was the blueberry compote!
Great tips! As a (more amateur than Jamie) baker, I have found that the cake strips really help!
This cake would have challenged the average cake shops in my area.
He needs to get a cake turn table. Makes decorating 1000 times easier.
At worst, you make me smile buddy. Smile the empathetic smile of the knowing smile. Mostly chuckle or guffaw though. Sometimes snort-laugh. In any event, always something to look forward to. Love the new beam-in effect for the Wiz Kid. Niiiiiiiiice. Thanks J.
Really good attempt. Such a lot of work in that. Fondant is too sickly to eat much. Liam now presents Junior Bake off in Britain, the kids are brilliant.
Yes I eat the fondant. Our wedding cake had a white chocolate fondant. It was a white raspberry cake with raspberry mousse between the layers with the fondant. We had fondant calla lillies as a decoration. It was so good! Sometimes I dream about it
Love that you use the call of the loon for your bleeps. My Canadian heart smiles every time. Thank you.
Great job plowing through, Jamie. The cake looked great. Crumble topping leftovers would be nice on yogurt.
i’m so glad more people are discovering your channel and loving your content 😭 JAMIE SUPREMACY!!!
He should be hitting the half mil mark by now surely, his right up there with the most entertaining cooking shows on YT.
It's beginning to look like I can't go without a Sunday of Jamie (loon tremolo) up a cake
I hope you could hear me cheering all the way from London, Ontario! That was beautifully done!
i was just looking for something to watch while i cook some pancakes! always a joy to see a new release from you :)
Thank-you for a VERY good Sunday afternoon laugh!! I was crying.. laughing so hard when you were wrapping the cake with the fondant!! Ultimately.. great job!
I used to work with Liam’s mum! Liam would be proud of you, Jamie!
So glad to see another video from you, Jamie! Love every single one of them! ORDER UP!
First off Jamie, the cake looks amazing! You should be proud... I saw the bake off where Liam made this cake, he's got nothing on you. LOVE YOU and your attitude!
This series makes me so happy, laugh with you and smile the entire time. Thank you, and I love the new special effects.
I'm a crumble girl myself! Lovely cake, friend 🤤❤
I hear him say cake and I start to laugh. I just love these videos. Thank you!
I appreciate the Big Comfy Couch reference with the ten second tidy. Fun fact: my dad worked on the show and I got to visit the set - I could tell you how they filmed the ten second tidy!
this youtube channel is probably one of the most perfect cooking shows i’ve seen, the videography is amazing, the creator is extremely charismatic, the editing is entertaining and to the point, and these recipes are great
This really has been the best channel I’ve subscribed to since the pandemic. I am thoroughly entertained and invested in these endeavors lol.
Jamie and way too complicated baking is my favorite series ❤
26:31 Quick tip for the future, Jamie - If you need to dilute something down like this where you don’t intend to/need to keep the leftovers, just dump half of it out before diluting. That way, you need less diluent (aka. the vodka) to make a larger impact on the level of dilution.
ETA: Alternatively, you could just take a small portion of your initial overly-concentrated mixture, separate it, and add just diluent (vodka). Chemistry principles for the win!
That is SO MUCH WORK. I'm OK with just a great cake and old fashioned icing like Mom made.Kudos to you for persevering. It looked great!
It looks incredible! Congrats Jamie!
Oh shit I'm here so early idk what to say I haven't finished the video! Love you and your content Jamie!
❤️
Finished the video, YOU DID SO DAMM GOOD
Aw shucks. Thank you!!!🙏🏼
Please enter a culinary channel competition! It would be great! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great humor through out! Fun watch. Great result as well. Thumbs up!
I am a big fan of British Bake off and I loved Liam’s cake. Thanks to you now I know every step of this masterpiece!
You’ve come such a long way from green pancakes and lime butter, it’s inspiring to watch you learn and achieve these awesome results!
I love this channel and your videos!! Best vids of my week.
I'm just baffled that something with so much fondant won anything. I get cake decoration is an art and all that, but man, if I have to peel my cake to enjoy it, it's not really podium winner material, y'know.
After the leaning and squishing in the middle it did turn out so much more pretty than I could've imagined.
Bravo!!! Despite the challenges you persevered and owned it! That's my favourite part of all of your videos, but the cake ones bring a whole other level of enjoyment lol. WELL DONE!
Clicking on the video and liking now to bring up the engagement, I'll be back and watch the video in a couple hours 👍👍
Edit: it was great :)
Merci beaucoup!!
Love the loon bleep out 🇨🇦
Love the new teleport machine!
You did a great job with painting the “pancake stack.” I think you probably have more artistic talent than you give yourself credit for. Entertaining and engaging as always Jaimie; thank you!
I am REALLY impressed! That was quite an undertaking and for about four minutes it looked perfect lol
Always bring a smile while you create and cook❤
I legit thought it was a stack of pancakes when i clicked on this video!!! Good job jamie with the pancake look!!
you did GREAT jamie!! congrats!
you did this amazingly well, Liam as his own cook books out, with some weird and delicious things to make you have come along way from the 1st video, i look forward to your videos each week
Congratulations! It all came together beautifully! Also, thanks for the smiles along the way. ;)
Wow, this one came out looking spectacular!! Great job.
That cake seemed like SO MUCH WORK. I would not even attempt it. You are always fun to watch, keep them coming.
Dude, Forks Way Up.... Love everything you do. Keep doing what you do!!!!
That looks absolutely delicious, well done you!
NICE JOB. I laughed so much with you on this. You did such a great job!! More cakes.
You are a hero for all of us who struggle with baking. 🎉
That looks amazing great job!
Liam’s season is a really great one!! Highly recommend!
Pan prep for the win, yay Jamie!
Jamie, try Rose Levy Beranbaum's cake books. She gives the best directions ever and I always use her recipes. Pecan is pronounced puh-cahn. I have no idea where pee-can came from.
Some parts of America pronounce it pee-can
Wow it was really a "trust the process" with the pancake fondant molding and painting, looks great!
My five year old wants to know who your friend in the ceiling is!
You nailed it Jamie!!!!!
Thanks, Kate!! 🙏🏼
I knew from the moment i heard you that you are Canadian. The way you swear, hahahaha. Love yourself and your content. Loyal watcher from Alberta.
