Ok now you really getting my wheels turning and I have definitely not scratched the surface of of the whole jig tying experience....that jig may not be flashy and bright but like you said it may be the best crappie producer....Man ole Zack had me crackin'😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
i enjoy learning from you, i was a mixture of amused and annoyed; with Zach photo bombing you during the entire video. Now i'm sorry i threw all those squirrel tails away in my past. Great looking jig, i like the beard too!
I like the squirrel jig. I'm undecided about the beard though. Maybe if it was a little shorter I'd be more hip to it. The fish need be the ones to decide. Good luck.
Loving my peak vice. Nice jig. I have tied up several with squirrel tail and I like working with it and looks awesome. Specially fir a natural Shad look. Thanks fir sharing.
I like the length and beard for crappie but I shorten the hair upon my smaller than 1/32 for gills. A bare head with red or gray squirrel tail and that same olive chenille is a winner for me on my coppernose bluegill here in FL. Nice work.
Eric - I tie wings on a lot of my jigs. I think that extra bit of hair adds some bulk for a slower fall kinda like a parachute. Of course, I have no scientific evidence to back this up, but I believe it, so it's true... lol Good lookin jig.
Look better with thought the beard. I would have waited to glue that chenille down before checking to see if I want to add more tail on. Then after I was happy I could go ahead and glue the body of chenille down 💯💯💯💯👍🏽
Squirrel tails make great flies. That’s why Mepps will pay or trade hunters for squirrel tails for their spinners. I think the beard was too high. If it was closer to the body might have looked better. But the fish are the judges.
i dont tie my own jigs yet...but buy squirrel tail jigs from a guy in Tx. have caught a lunker 5 to 8lb bass while crappie fishing with these. they work! in Northern Calif. this jig i like without the beard.
I love the "Bearded Tree Rat". I tied one last night using the black Squirrel tail and Chartreuse calf tail, no beard. Turned out great. I also tied one with pink calf and black squirrel. Going to KY Lake to test them tomorrow. I have some red fox I going to try soon. Thank you for sharing.
I have used the calf and don’t care for it, might be ok fir really really small jigs. But it is so slick and very fine. I like rabbit better. The fox I have tried as well, a lot of under fur on a fox tail. You gotta comb it very throughly. I want to try lambs wool. I have some and haven’t tried it out. It’s black.
@@fuzzyfultz have you tried goat? Or Bison? I somehow befriended a trapper up north who has been sending me a lot of his scrap and I have both and not sure what to do with them. I tried Red and Silver fox and you are right about 90% of it combed out, but I just ground it up and made dubbing out of all the undercoat
Looks nice ,, looks like something that fell out of a tree for the Crappies to snatch up ,, I have a bunch of squirrel's on the bird feeder to humm ,, I like the beard idea ,, think you should have cut it shorter one more time ,,, I bought some jigs from someone else I follow ,, he tied me several jigs with this beard idea ..they look nice ,, think he used white buck tail ,,
Hey Eric , I came back to watch this one again , I just got in some new materials and one of them was some Red Squirrel tails ! And I really enjoyed it when you called them TREE RATS ! Exactly what I call them all the time ! Good Man ! And Yes I did enjoy the Video ! Thank you and Take Care and Be Safe !
Hey I love the squirrel tail. I’ve been wanting to see a jig tyed with the squirrel tail for a long time and I’m looking forward to seeing the red hair! And I can definitely see a benefit to the beard for a bigger profile bait. Question..... Where do you get your jig heads to tie to. Do you buy them or do you mold them yourself with the J hooks? Thanks & Keep on Tying
Reel Foot is a great lake for that jig. Make that in a 1/64 and fish it around the Cypress roots and hold on for some serious blue gill action with a mix of crappie and occasionally a bass or catfish running those beds.
Love the squirrel hair! Been wanting to tye this one myself for a while. Looking forward to seeing you go with the red squirrel. QUESTION.... Do you pour the jig heads yourself or do you purchase your jig heads with the j-hooks and from where?
It is certainly a unique jig. I have never seen a jig like that before. I would be interested in seeing how it catches crappie. If you could give a report on how it worked would be appreciated. Thanks for the video and a unique jig.
What is the purpose of tying squirrel hair on top as in video. I would tie squirrel hair on top over front of hook as a weed guard. Great video. Squirrel hair is good for panfish, crappies ,walleyes and small mouth bass.

Me too! Zack was making me laugh! He was so subtle with the video bombing! Love these videos!

Thank you
I think the bearded jig looks nice! Can't wait to see Zack catch a slab with it.
Split the beard or add one = 2; looks like a wasp/hornet? JMO I will do one I assure you. Plan on lots of animal, including me grin..........

Love tying with squirrel hair, n the squirrel tail is easy to dye so u can get a bunch of different colors! ✌️
Look better with thought the beard. I would have waited to glue that chenille down before checking to see if I want to add more tail on. Then after I was happy I could go ahead and glue the body of chenille down 💯💯💯💯👍🏽
Looks good!

Cool looking
I will never see road kill the same way..
Looks good

It’s cool to know they work
I didn’t like the beard either
I like the jig both with the beard and without.
I think I liked it better without…. Maybe
I'd liked to have seen the bearded jig tied on and drug through a fish aquarium to see how it moves in the water.
It’s honestly more for profile
Let the crappie decide, if it catches keep doing it, God bless!!!!!
Great looking jig thanks for sharing and stay safe 👍🎣🎣👍
I like it with the beard, but would put it on the other side of the jig to where it would duel as some what of a weed guard or dorsal fin.

I’ve never tried them I’ve done fox and coyote
I’m sure goat or bison would work
I might have put the beard on the other side to give it a bit of a weedless design..
The beard looks fine, but personally, I would have tied it in to cover the hook point.

Outstanding squirrel jig
I have watched your video several times looks awesome, wonder what it would look with a hackle feather around the neck?

Turkey feathers will be up next
@@ericmasseyjigco I really hope that the things I sent you , work out for making Jigs !
Oh yea you'll see

I am very glad that worked for you ! Makes me feel like I did contribute
Something good to you ! 👍🏻
I'm gonna tie some up and send to you
Without beard. Great looking jig though!
Leave the squirrel beard. And thanks for the many tricks and tips
Let the crappie tell you if they like it or not!!!!!
And let us know if it catches!!!
i like the bearded squirrel jig did it catch crappie?

I tie a lot of squirrel tail bream jigs. I have never but a beard on one, but I think it is time to try it out.

I've fished reel foot a couple times...wish I lived closer to it I might have to make a trip there this year
Like the beard, looks like fin hanging down when it’s upright
Love the squirrel hair! Been wanting to tye this one myself for a while. Looking forward to seeing you go with the red squirrel.
QUESTION.... Do you pour the jig heads yourself or do you purchase your jig heads with the j-hooks and from where?
I buy mine unpainted fro. Jason brummel you can find him on Facebook
Like the beard. I use the short rat hair for a collar behind leadhead.
With it for sure we use jigs with a fin here in Louisiana all the time it out fish’s one without 👍🏻
It is certainly a unique jig. I have never seen a jig like that before. I would be interested in seeing how it catches crappie. If you could give a report on how it worked would be appreciated. Thanks for the video and a unique jig.
What kind of uv resin do you use?
I think the beard is a good idea but I think it could have been a little shorter
Yes I definitely agree
Good job.
Thank you

Squirrel hair is good for panfish, crappies ,walleyes and small mouth bass.
The hair in a real squirell tail is very light not sure it would deflect much
Do you have any more videos on squirrel tails jigs 🤔
Probably not
I’ll try do another soon any request for one in particular
Like the jig no beard though
That beard would be cool if it was solid flash
Mantab yes keren 👍
That what you call a beard, is actually a wing, and yes I tie wings on some of my jigs.
Like it with it
No beard, but excellent work!!!
Where did you get the tackle box from ?
The blue one?

Tell him I sent you
I fish a lot at Reelfoot How’d your buddy do ?
Haven't heard from him today
May look great with some red in the beard
Eric, What if you put 2 of those on top , like wings ??? Oh , my dog distracted me , it’s a beard ! Sorry
I like the beard up front. But let’s see one in the rear to.
Should have put the bread on top for weed guard and maybe do a few with a shartruse body I like it I may half to get you to make me some
Would like to see it tied with the two tone. One with and one without the beard.
How about Grizzlie hackle for color
I have just seen this video. I would have made the beard smaller and moved it back a wrap or two. But that is just my opinion.
Make both and try them! 2:00 am ? Omg u need a job! lol but hay I looked at it. I think there cool!
I get off work at 12: 30am
@@ericmasseyjigco Lol I’m just picking at ya bro.
without beard, try one turn of medium soft hackle.
Beards are for the fisherman not the fish bait
I think the tail should b just a 1/4" shorter. But, that's just my opinion. Other than that, go fishin.
Tight lines Brother
No matter what though bud, I still think it's a cool jig.
thank ya sir
Without the beard
With out just saying!! 😎😎😊
Looks better without.
better with out
