  • The Economy for the Common Good is a widely demanded alternative to the - inhumane, instable and unsustainable - ruling economic model. It is post-dualistic, overcomes both capitalism and socialism, and is based on the values that make human relationships flourish: empathy, dignity, solidarity, cooperation, justice, and sustainability. It is received enthusiastically worldwide, and more and more people, companies, universities and governments are joining the movement. Join us, too!

    That can be an alternative, a possible solution for our world and our "end time" economy. I definitely agree.

    Something just occurred to me. In the current economic system investors are often quite removed from the company they're investing in, which leads them to put pressure on the company for financial returns - they're not there on site to see possible negative effects of attempting to maximise profit. The common good balance sheet would be a good tool to help overcome this problem to some extent, but I guess it's the whole culture of businesses approach to why-are-we-even-in-business that has to change more - also something that the Common Good way of doing things seems to want to address - but a much harder thing to see meaningful change in I guess, due to the 'momentum' of the status quo (it's quite entrenched in Western civilization's consciousness to chase the buck whatever the cost to society or the environment.)

    I'm an American in the year 2021 and the world is in an even worse situation then when this video was made. Im in my mid 50s and I never thought I'd see it in my lifetime. The system in America has been going down hill and now it is collapsing. Incredible inflation and homelessness, and an almost non-existant middle class. The third world is right around the corner.

    WIPO, (World Intellectual Property Organization), is a $16 TRILLION patent industry that apparently has no regulatory structures in place. The rentiers who profit from dangerous patents that threaten the health of society and the environment need to be reined in and international laws must be implemented.

    I had a strong pain against all of the restrictions of income.
    It's good to have rich people and it feels wrong to limit anyone from reaching their potential.
    l am also in favor of an economic floor for folks so that no-one starts from zero.
    The question in my head is how much should that be. 3k per year...6 k per year ...10k per year.
    What is the floor ?

    A holistic view like this has much "Room for a View," to borrow from Virginia Woolf's title of her book, where the "view" stands for a coming together. Harold Bloom writes about the "mistakes" that are "built into the process." That process is symbolic of our law.

    Howzit man! I like the idea and it's something I was looking for, but I do not understand how one thing in particular has been accepted about the economy or system by such a large organisation such as yours. What I'm talking about is tax, it stifles the economy and is wrong on the basis that it is mandatory, which means that firstly it needs to be enforced with even more energy, as I mentioned also that it simply stifles the economy by making everything more expensive, and lastly because it's not a choice there is no real need to provide value, or equivalent value in return. Tax cannot be apart of this new economy. Am I wrong?

    You won't even get a consensus on what is the "common good". One person might say that wealth should be taken from those that worked for it and given to those that didn't. Another person would believe that the common good would be for government to enforce the rule of law but let citizens be as free as they can be to enjoy the fruits of their labor which shouldn't be limited by some other group of people. What people mostly complain about is greed which has it's negative side but is in fact a great motivator. This emotion can push people to develop new, better, higher quality products and services then they would have if they were held back and heavily "taxed" for being successful.

    How sad it is, that most are ingrates who take all they can take, while a minority are grateful and give all they can give. And so, the real issue is: Did we evolve, and being the fittest, deserve everything? Or were we created and deserve nothing?
    For giving our hard earned income to the poor, that would make no sense, unless we had a debt of gratitude due and owed.

    That is brilliant. What isn't good is that Britain has just left the EU. Looking at our government it's not surprising that they wanted to leave - they don't want a government for the common good, they want to feather their own nests.

      @kcarver0614 4 года назад

      I think that in most countries with free citizen voting people vote their feelings as it is. That restricts your freedom by the feelings of the majority as it is. I like the core idea of changing the institutional motivations for companies for unrestrained profits, and trying to put the profits in the context of social good (the ‘unseen hand’ from Adam Smith). That doesn’t restrict or demonize profits, except maybe to temper greed. Hopefully you are a person with positive ethical values, in which case under this system you would feel at least as free as you do now. Be well.
