Is the sound mixer musically deaf? Houston is mixed FAR to light. Emmet's comping is louder than Houston's solos! This isn't a duo, this is piano with tenor noodling in the background! There's great interaction between them, but it's not easy to hear! I've mixed a lot of live jazz for broadcast. This comment at 18 minutes into the set -- with two musicians and good mic placement, if you can't get a balance in the first half minute, someone needs to tell you to find a new job! It does get better later, but why should that take a half hour! I think you might be listening too loud when judging balance. And something simple like failing to apply LF rolloff of the both mics to compensate for their eating it, is deafness 101! Audience miking is dumb. A spaced pair would have sounded FAR better. This isn't 1970 -- no one listens in mono today! I DO like the mic placement for Houston's tenor, and musically this is a delight. I've been listening to Houston for decades, and to Emmet a lot since COVID.
