Hi Will. I used to be an engineer working on electrics for the Perkins engines. They're bad boys 👦 great engines. I'm sure you'll get running for him. Pity it sunk that eater isn't going to do the boat any favours it will be problematic in years to come 😢 And you'll be running it on WD 40 lol. Yer good stuff. Argh argh argh 😤 loved it.. All the best Kev the brinklow kayaker Ps got recognised on the airwaves when talking on my transmitter the other night. They couldn't belive they watched my video and now talking to me lol 😅😅😅😅 I'm famous too dirty thumbs up..😊
Those little Perkins motors are brilliant and well worth saving if possible. As an old diesel fuel injection mechanic, (oh so very old), I have worked on many and I reckon it won't be too long before they become sought after like old Listers are now. When you take the injectors out, always remove the back leakage pipe that runs across the top of the four injectors. As you said, it is a frail pipe and the brazing at the joints loves to crack if you give it so much as a harsh stare. I reckon with a good clean out she'll run. Good luck mate and here to help if you have any fuel system related questions. All the best.
Interesting stuff Will. Hope you can vent all the heat thats coming off the exhaust and conduit and gubbins back there out into the living space so its not wasted heating up that space behind the kitchen wall. Amazing work on the sunken engine, thats a hail Mary sort of job!
Morning Will. A chilly one.🥶. Hope all heating systems are fully functional. That was a busy video for you with the "spanners". I await part 2 on the Perkins with fingers crossed. Didn't spot any scifi Easter eggs this time! Keep warm. 👍👍. My subscription wasn't cancelled by the RUclips gremlins. Regards. Paul.
Very interesting stuff I’ve just done a rebuild on a partial sunken boat. Alternator . Starter motor. All filters. Injection pump service. Batteries and most wires probably. Main fuel tanks probably contaminated. All x2 They might run again with a few quid but not sure I’d want to trust them to get me home with just a quick spin dry. I’m watching with interest.
@ The one I’ve done was in a terrible state much like his. ( except mine is twin om636 with Enfield z outdrives ) If I’d known then what I know now I’m not sure I’d have taken it on. That is to say it’s taken 3 years, I’ve done the work myself and not had to pay anyone its cost in the region of 10k to get it to a very average diy standard. With basic upgrades going forward I expect another 10k would be needed. I could have bought a nice up and running twin diesel sunseeker 32 for the same money. All that being said I’d watch the videos if you do decide to commit to the work. Bit negative maybe but I wished someone had given me a good shake and face slap before I started mine. I’ve just bought another project boat.. I have an illness .
@mickyfinn7969 ha ha ha. I know exactly what you mean. But what you've learned is priceless. It's not my boat I'm just helping out. I'm sure it will start. The tanks sealed and with very few electrics.
M8 I watched the first part of that heater install, I fitted a couple of em for friends and I was waiting with baited breath to see you fiddle with that fuel tap in the diesel tank, I was howling hahahah. I used a guitar string, a high E works very well :)
You are so talented Will … I hope your diesel heater is working well … I have one in my van and that tapping does my nips in all night long 🤣🤣 it’s such a shame that gorgeous boat sank but if anyone can fix it, it’s you 😃❤️🏴☠️
I bought some lagging to go around the ducting. You will be losing so much heat from the ducting before it get to your kitchen outlet... You will be able to grow tomatoes, or maybe something else 😉😉, in that wall space where the heater is... 😉😂
I do rap my ducting and change my tank and fuel lines, exhaust. I rap my exhaust as well. I'm also looking at getting an egr valve to run my radiators..stay tuned. 👍
Is that the original exhaust and silencer supplied with the heater? If so they're only suitable for use externally on trucks and can be lethal fitted internally. They leak exhaust gas, which contains lethal levels of CO. Either way, make sure you have a couple of working CO alarms when using.
If you look at your video at 17:50, the oil filter is right in front of you👍Its the old paper element type within the round housing bolted sideways to the block. Directly below the dipstick.
Will for your heater I’d run pipes from the heater to the bow and the stern using a tee piece with h a flapper valve, you can then control how much heat goes fore and aft. 👍👍
Another interesting and informative video from you will. I noticed a comment about the injection pipe work ib a Perkins engine .he is absolutely right about this . The only problem I have come across with a Perkins engine has always been down to seals leaking. They seem to run forever .as long as you maintain them regularly.. As for the ticking sound this is normal it's the pump drawing fuel for the heater. Turn in the engine in your van and you will hear the pump ticking as it draws fuel for the engine. Anyway will as always keep yourself safe and well mate. Filthy thumbs up 👍👍👍
I'm still waiting for the chap to get back to me about the perkins. I hate leaving a job half done. I bet the pistons have rust in them now. I know where the oil filter is now. It's inside paper type. Cheers Wayne. 👍
@@NarrowboatWill Hi will I have been thinking about your problem with the Perkins engine .. Perhaps I have found the answer for you . After a bit of digging on the web the Perkins engine company has a spare parts catalogue for people to download along with workshop manuals.. I also believe that they have complete overall kits available for all of Thier engine's.. Knowing that this engine has been under fresh water in convinced that it can be saved. Probably it will needed a complete strip down And you may be lucky to only have to clean up the cylinders with a bit of Emery cloth. If it had been full of salt water then you would be looking for a new engine. Nice , I do like your new diesel heater though . They are great , lots of heat for minimal fuel . Just keep an eye on the Co2 . Get that exhaust sorted out tout suite .
I can’t understand how you, of all boaters, could loose 300 subscribers! Maybe viewers have been busy with the coming holidays, but that still wouldn’t explain the decrease. Also, keep the screaming groundhog or whatever the hell it is! I hope people come to their senses and resubscribe. Good luck with that motor. You’re a better man than I.
Hi Wil, I have a similar heater for my shed and it works very well. the flue needs to be sealed , or you will fill the boat with CO (Carbon Monoxide). that silencer box has a drip hole which will vent CO out into the boat, so isn't suitable inside the boat. Be careful!
Interesting video as always 😊The Flue on that Heater ( being Very Hot ) seems to be wasting a lot of heat . It’s a shame there is not away to draw off , some of the heat from it . Hope you get it all sorted out and working before the really cold weather arrives . I remember the ‘Crusing the Cut ‘ Chap fitting one in his Van . That was a tight fit too .
Nice one Will and Leon, fair play to you both with what you are doing, if you need someone to ever hold a torch whilst you do your biz, I could be your man for I have three torches my friend 🤣🤣 have a good rest of the week👍
I think I would have mounted the thermostat down on the side if the cabinet. It will read the temp at head height and it will be cold down lower. Maybe a couple of ceiling fans to push the heated air down? I just can't be of much help to you months after the fact.
You'll probably do a Mavis on me , but , it does need to be lifted out of the boat and put on a workbench and stripped down and rebuilt . All the best with it tho .....
Hello will you are going to have a problem with your diesel heater exhaust, you have created a condensation trap in the pipe , you should have it running downwards from heater to outside just so water can run out also you will see silencer has little hole to go to bottom for same reason, the rest looked ok just keep an eye on the crappy filter , Brigg and Stratton mower ones are best as sealed when made , regards rikki
Looking at the heater fuel tank, the bottom half has two mounting points, so there's two areas of the tank that are not holding fuel, maybe that explains the discrepancy?
Is that pump at the right angle Will? It has to be at the right angle to pump properly that's why it is surging probably? You can buy a quieter pump for them but they are expensinve. or a box to put over it ?..... Universal 22ml Ultra Quiet Heater Fuel Pump New 12V 1-5KW fleabay
I could be wrong Will, I had a Chinese diesel heater..I think the exhaust on the diesel heater should fall downwards and the small hole on the baffle thing at the end should be down as it can drip condensation, obviously it’s a carbon monoxide danger so make sure it routes out.
Agreed. This is all for testing purposes. On a narrowboat, we have to have smoke alarms and co detectors. Not only that we have so much ventilation on boats it's bloody drafty. 😂 🤣 Way more vents than houses or sheds.
The heater you refered too on the inlet manifold is actually a "Flame Start" the unit is connected to the return diesel line and when you turn the ignition switch to glow/heater an element in the unit glows read hot and eventually the diesel burst into flame, you will normally hear a "Pop" when it ignites, then you turn the switch to crank the engine. thus sucking a flame into the engine. I think you are some time away from trying to get it running.
The fuel pump is irritating , I put a bit of dense foam - out of some packaging - between the pump fixings to the wall and that sorted it , not completely silent but I can live with it .
Spread the ducting all along your narrow boat , under the bed ,under the kitchen units under any units throughout your boat , better the heat goes all around rather than going out the exhaust .
There's a bloke on RUclips that does van builds and he's making relatively silent ones in comparison to the ones supplied with the heater. personally don't mind the noise but I'm not normal 😂😂😂
