  • In April 2001 Laurence Hogg Productions released a video presented by David Suchet called "The Missing Links". The Lichfield & Hatherton Canals are the missing links in the Birmingham Canal Navigations. Laurence passed away in 2018.
    In tribute to the early visionary pioneers here is that VHS video presented in two parts.
    Part 1 covers the Hatherton Canal and Part 2 picks up the story with the Wyrley & Essington, or Lichfield Canal, as we know it now.
    An updated DVD may be still available from some retailers.

    I’m not sure if this is interesting to anyone but me but my family owned the land around lock 28 (mentioned at 17:28) and I remember my mum telling me she swam in the canal when she was a child! I remember a small bridge on Darnford Lane by the field where lock 28 was. I loved that field by the lock keepers cottage which was occupied by my grandfathers farm manager when I was a kid. Ah .... memories!

    This is an amazing endeavor. Keep up the stellar work. I'm American and recently have noticed restoration of some of our own canals undoubtedly inspired by your fine restoration efforts. Thank you, you are all doing an impressive and monumental work.

    This is fantastic I’ve just sat watching both part 1& 2. We are so lucky in Lichfield, the Canal will be wonderful. At the moment I need to jog along busy roads for 3km before I get onto the Canal at Huddlesford, but one day it will be a 10 minute walk to the Canal & I can walk on a car free route to London, Coventry, Sheffield....well everywhere. Thank you to everyone who is helping.

    Is hs2 around Whittington having an effect on the works?

    • @LHCRT
      @LHCRT  3 года назад +4

      It will do. HS2 is crossing over Cappers Lane bridge which we built on 2005/6 so the bridge needs to be demolished. However HS2 will rebuild it for us.
