One thing to remember is that Whitley also has Jaques for a father, and he's no better parent to him than he is to Weiss, so he copes with it by trying to copy him as much as possible in the hopes that that would make Jaques like him more. Actually, he's pretty much volume 1 Weiss but haven't gone through the same character development that she had.
I did not really think about it that way, and I guess we can't just expect him to have the same determination and/or circumstances as Weiss to be able to deal with the situation similarly, so maybe there is a bit of empathy to be had there, but that doesn't really make things much easier when he acts like a little dingus dongus, maybe if he actually opens up or goes through some character development himself
If you have watched the Volume 5 character short for Blake, you'll know a bit more about Ilia, and why she attacked Sun when he said she didn't look like a Faunus.
I did not actually get there yet, I fell a bit behind on RWBY recordings because of some other stuff and some personal things I had to deal with, but I am not sick anymore so I'll start posting double episodes again soon hopefully !
@@VithLiahain She actually has a lot of subtle chameleon imagery in her design: for instance, her weapon is meant to shoot out like a chameleon's tongue, and her ponytail is shaped like the grasping tail of a chameleon. Also, her full name is Ilia Amitola, and her last name translates to 'rainbow'...which is appropriate considering that she can change colours at will. Or...well, most of the time, her colours change based on her mood, and aren't really intentional.
@@Flufux Do you know that meme "that's a weird dog", well that's a weird damn chameleon, and out of all the things I could have interpreted her weapon as, a chameleon's tongue is NOT something that would even remotely cross my mind with all the weird fantasy design weapons that I have seen in my life, or her ponytail, or her name
