Just visited Newcastle and had one of my best days at South Shields! Sandhaven was beautiful, spotlessly clean and the parks were lovely. Congrats to the Council! Thanks for your videos-they really helped make my trip so enjoyable.
An old work mate of mine lived in Byker worked at the Naval Yard and spent his two weeks summer holidays in South Shields with his seven kids. I think they lived in a tin chalet near or on the beach and they loved it. So no excuses from the Newcastle punters as the Metro takes you into the heart of Shields and some beautiful walks await you along with the free sea fresh air.
South Shields council needs to be commended for the work and continual maintenance they give to those beaches it is outstanding. The design of the promenades is first class. Fantastic area and Minchellas ice-cream is the best too 😋
I'm from Gateshead, but now live away. But I spent many days down at Shields during summers, as it was so easy to get to on the Metro. But the North East has always been renowned for its great beaches, and Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, and Cullercoats are just as amazing. As a child, Embleton Bay, just up the coast was a family favourite, and was famous for its dunes. So many beautiful places and attractions in the North to list, we are surely spoilt for choice.
Always been a Newcastle fan but lived away as my Dad relocated to Birmingham, we'd go up for games but usually just stayed in the city centre way so didn't know much about South Shields or the other areas. I did the Great North Run in 2014 which ends in South Shields and the beach and the attractions next to it blew me away, whilst most beach resorts seem to now be run down the one in South Shields was thriving, and it reminded me of my childhood and I loved the city itself too, the park was stunning, and whilst it's quite small it had everything you needed. The only problem is that the queue for the fish and chip shop you mentioned was huge by the time I got there, and when I went again it was shut. It's definitely a hidden gem which is a surprise considering the North Run is on the tele and ends there every year, but I'm sure with this award and video it will probably get the recognition it deserves now.
Lived in South Shields all my life and have to say the beach is outstanding. Definitely take it for granted at times how lucky I am! Hopefully catch you on one of your guided walks soon!
the atmosphere down there when the festival is on is second to none, whether you lucky enough to get in the bents park & watch the bands or just go in the marine park with your beers & listen from there & then everyones off to the rattler for more live music, finish your cans & maybe a few pints.
Great video. Born and bred in South Shields. The whole coastline that we have on offer is great. I like Marsden beach also with Marsden Grotto. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for highlighting such a wonderful place Eddy. It brought back some wonderful memories of walking along that beautiful beach and through the park. I wouldn't mind retiring there!
Totally agree about Bondi Beach and I used to live there! The far less famous Cronulla Beach in Sydney is far, far better than Bondi. I've just moved to County Durham from London and Sandhaven's been on my list to explore so thanks for this video.
I have Vivid memories of going on the train in south shields park with my grandparents when i was young, some of my fondest time were spent there. I can remember the sounds, the sights and ohh the smell - it was something i have never smelt before and I need to head up there soon to see if it is the same.

Another top video Eddy 👏 when it's 'all added up' it's great to know that the area is acknowledged ( impartially) as the best! My favourite is sugar sands up the Northumberland coast....the missus is Alnmouth beach. Our Pooch Potter loves any coast line, as long as he gets some fish 🐟! Colmans is a definite family fav......you must try next time 👍have a great weekend !
Eddy mate we are lucky to have you. Another amazing video. Shields is local to me so I take it for granted but so many ppl are going to see this video and learn about our beautiful area.

I was blown away with all that the local area has to offer, so much so that my husband and I are now looking to relocate to the Northeast in a couple of years, after spending the last 17 living in Spain, can't wait! 😃🌊🏙️🌳🌲🇬🇧
Bedruthan Steps down in Cornwall has to be my favourite beach, it's awe inspiring down there, although you have nowhere near the amenities that you've got in South Shields. Seems fantastic for the family, looks like everything is clicking together for Newcastle to become a new tourism hub!

Was there just this week. Now I grew up in South Shields, but my wife can never understand why as kids we never really went to the beach. I don't really know myself! Have to say now that as someone who walks every morning, I made sure to get on the beach from Saturday to Wednesday, especially on the last day. It's taken me nearly 30 years since leaving to finally appreciate what I didn't when leaving. Looking forward to seeing it again next month 😀

I’m a huge dog lover and have two of my own. I’m at SS quite often and I believe one of the reasons the beach is do clean and attracts so many people to the beach is because the banning of dogs. I’m all for it and a small price to pay. I just walk them along the promenade and the Leas during the summer 👍🏻
@@TynesideLife yeah I get that mate just a bit crap if I've got kids that want to go on the beach and play with the dog but hey ho irresponsible dog owners have ruined it for everyone I suppose so I do get your point plus theres plenty of other beaches in north east we enjoy that do allow dogs 👍
Dogs are allowed on littlehaven and marsden beach all year round which are either side of the sandhaven beach so you can still take your dogs down to the beach in the summer months. Marsden is quite a walk from the fair area though but it is a nice walk along the Leas. Littlehaven is just on the other side of the pier so really close.
I'm certain you'll touch on famous people of the area in a series of videos , but i was surprised to not hear about Catherine Cookson . I believe some of the money from her trust went to that area years back ? If i recall correctly it was the kick-start it needed and they've gone from strength to strength ever since . Love that area even if the red n whites try to claim it lol

no doubt the sandancers have a belter beach, but for me blyth to Seaton sluice is a beauty too and to the northern end of blyth towards the river is dog friendly year round.
perfect for the disabled, the ice cream shop right on the roundabout next to the fair ground is class best ice cream vanilla better than mark tony , it has a sign Tynemouth coffee, has a white pvc roof, easy parking much better than north Tyneside, have to fight for a parking spot, south shields every time and am from north tyneside, the only problem a miss the sharks at bondia beach,
tynemouth roller rink was class it had a solid beech floor perfect, until the council got someone to burn it down, cullercoats no parking, but a safe haven for infants but to be fair its close to the metro station 5mins, whitley bay limited parking, best off south shields or maybe cullercoates by metro, but take food and snacks beach hut cafe if you want drink etc. or maybe duridge bay further up the coast there is a nudist beach if you want, but must play by the rules nude, its the part with the sign nudist
Re Bondi Beach: 💯! That’s exactly what I thought! I was so disappointed. Don’t get me wrong Australia has some incredible beaches but Bondi is extremely disappointing 👏
Now its been given national fame overdevelopment and second homes for wealthy southerners will follow just like Northumberland. The one thing the North East had despite all of our privations was beautiful countryside and coast which us skint northeners are now being priced out of or seeing developed.
The Northern coastline in England is wonderful from Whitby and Scarborough right up to the Scottish border and then there's the excellent countryside that the North East has to offer the area is much better than Brentford!
Born and bred in South Shields I can honestly say I think most people in shields take the beach for granted myself included! Also Colmans is massively over rated
I didn’t say it was. Australia has some stunning beaches! I’ve been to some. You’re missing the context of why I mentioned it. Thanks for your comment Craig 👍🏻

Very nice content.
Hi mate, it was a 12 + minute video and I can’t have everything I’d like. The video was obviously about the best beach nomination and I only included relevant information from the here and now.
Thanks for the info 👌🏻
@@TynesideLife it was a great video
The weather certainly helped out that day.
Thanks Eddie . Great video. Used to walk the dogs on the Leas way back
My pleasure Katharine. I still do, I love it
Sunderland fan here but Iv got to say can’t beat our beaches up here in the n.east. Have you done a video along the marsden grotto ?
Yeah I did mate. It’s in the original video I did about SS. Check it out if you get a minute 👍🏻
Certainly will give it a watch thanks. Even tho I’m a red and white find your videos really interesting.
@@michaeldixon8214 cheers Michael 🤜🏻
I was there yesterday. I couldn’t believe I was in Newcastle. So clean. Crystal clear water. Absolutely fabulous
🤛🏻
South Shields is NOT Newcastle!
Looks a top place Eddie
It is Paul 👍🏻
My local beach Eddy took for granted it is.
It’s amazing isn’t it 👍🏻
@@TynesideLife it is mate. Loads of hidden gems in the area
It was summer 1989...I was In the sea and started drowning and my faithful Dog Lassie was the only one to notice and dragged me out of the water...Saved my life...Thanks everybody for just standing about picking your finger out your arse...
You’re a funnyin Ian 😂
It's a true story as well...Madness...
no doubt the sandancers have a belter beach, but for me blyth to Seaton sluice is a beauty too and to the northern end of blyth towards the river is dog friendly year round.
Some lovely beaches up there 👍🏻
my beach and home town 😅
🤜🏻
perfect for the disabled, the ice cream shop right on the roundabout next to the fair ground is class best ice cream vanilla better than mark tony , it has a sign Tynemouth coffee, has a white pvc roof, easy parking much better than north Tyneside, have to fight for a parking spot, south shields every time and am from north tyneside, the only problem a miss the sharks at bondia beach,
👊🏻🙏
tynemouth roller rink was class it had a solid beech floor perfect, until the council got someone to burn it down, cullercoats no parking, but a safe haven for infants but to be fair its close to the metro station 5mins, whitley bay limited parking, best off south shields or maybe cullercoates by metro, but take food and snacks beach hut cafe if you want drink etc. or maybe duridge bay further up the coast there is a nudist beach if you want, but must play by the rules nude, its the part with the sign nudist
@@kopynd1 great tips 👍🏻
South Shields and Tynemouth
Bamburgh beach is the best I have seen - home or abroad.
Yeah it’s a lovely beach 👍🏻
Lovely beach, but 15deg. C in mid July, no wonder so few were in the water.
Aye, there is that 😅
Re Bondi Beach: 💯! That’s exactly what I thought! I was so disappointed. Don’t get me wrong Australia has some incredible beaches but Bondi is extremely disappointing 👏
Phew! I’m glad someone agrees! The photo I used is misleading. It really is a disappointing sight from all the hype.
Love the country and the people!
Bondi is way over rated given the beaches here in Australia, I live in Western Australia we have some stunneŕs but Bondi is a gloried tourist trap
@@TynesideLife you are spot on about Bondi beach was there in 2015 totally underwhelming, here in WA we have far better 😀.
@@davidhoward5392 would love to get to WA one day David
@@TynesideLife its a big old place, lots to see and do plus the sunniest place in Aus no matter what they say in Queensland
knew that eddie beutifull beach class for fishing
🤜🏻
Trying to keep this beautiful place a secret 😂😂
Aye, the secrets out now 😅
Tynemouth for me the best beach
👍👍👍
Now its been given national fame overdevelopment and second homes for wealthy southerners will follow just like Northumberland. The one thing the North East had despite all of our privations was beautiful countryside and coast which us skint northeners are now being priced out of or seeing developed.
Who knows 🤷🏻♂️ it’s the price of capitalism I suppose Jan, that we all subscribe to and take advantage of. Unfortunately it has its down sides too
We actually have the weather for a few days to
It’s been magic!
The Northern coastline in England is wonderful from Whitby and Scarborough right up to the Scottish border and then there's the excellent countryside that the North East has to offer the area is much better than Brentford!
😂
Gotta be bournemouth beach mate
Isn’t that where the old people go to retire? 😆
@@TynesideLife No thats Worthing where the beach is more sea defence than beach
Luskintyre beach in Harris is Britain's best best beach.
I love the beaches up there 👆
Born and bred in South Shields I can honestly say I think most people in shields take the beach for granted myself included! Also Colmans is massively over rated
Cheers Sean 👍🏻
But mostly freezing cold all the time
That’s the UK for you 🤷🏻♂️😂
Tynemouth
Being a Blyth lad I'm biased but I'm sure you'd allow me the privilege.
We’re all a little biased and we all have our favourites. Putting everything together for what SS offers, for me, it’s hard to beat
Naa ye canna beat the long sands a tynemouth Eddie
Tynemouth beach is the poorer brother I’m afraid 😆
Mate, Bondi is nowhere near Australias best beach
I didn’t say it was. Australia has some stunning beaches! I’ve been to some. You’re missing the context of why I mentioned it.
Thanks for your comment Craig 👍🏻
Sewage waste in the water
Tynemouth
I'm from South shields.... The place is an absolute shite hole
🤪🔫
South shelds beach is beautiful absolutely beautiful and im from wolverhampton. Believe me it's spotless clean and the locals are absolutely lovely ❤❤❤.100 %from us doon sooth nu mun 😂😂❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it ☝️
Certainly did I'd love to go when the weather is better
"Britains best beach"
says a channel called tyneside life, yeah not biased at all
The video is in response to the beach being voted the best beach in Britain from The Times travel writer who visits over 500 best beaches to grade them. The Times have produced their ‘Britains Best Beaches’ guide and is seen as the most comprehensive guide produced.
Sandhaven Beach has been voted the best beach in Britain.
