To me what separates this rivalry from all of the others is the parity that exists. There is rarely a game between them where at least one of them is a national championship contender and there are many games where they are BOTH contenders. Despite this, every game can be a toss up regardless of anyone's record. Every time they play they show that statistic of their records and points scored over the past 100 games and it is almost identical! Combine that with the fact that I am a 15 minute drive to Duke's campus and a 15 minute drive to UNC's....it doesnt get better than that

I've said much the same. Can't stand K and can't stand Duke, but I can't help but admit that they have definitely pushed us to excel as a program. With the collapse of NC State in the late 80s as an elite program we certainly needed that rivalry to keep pushing our team to be their best.
Duke fan here and I definitely hate the Heels, but have respect for them. Two great programs that continue to make each other better just to spite the other. The definition of rivalry

I hope Carolina v Duke is a good, competitive game that lives up to the hype. BTW, regarding the game Scott references in which Austin Rivers hit a shot to beat Carolina by one, Rivers did not merely WALK, he did a veritable 5-step polka, and the officials chose to ignore it.
