We've got all the fairy tale details you need to know about the long-awaited film right here. It's been 14 years since Shrek Forever After wrapped up DreamWorks' beloved franchise. But now, fresh off the success of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, the studio has finally announced the fifth installment!
DreamWorks made the big announcement on X, sharing a teaser that confirms Shrek 5 will hit theaters on July 1, 2026, perfectly timed to celebrate the anniversary of the original film. And the best part? The original All-Star cast - Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy - are all returning! Teaser Trailer and Full Movie Leaked, Leaks Coming Soon
While plot details are still under wraps (probably locked away in the highest room of the tallest tower), it wouldn't be a surprise if Antonio Banderas joins the cast, given the ending of Puss In Boots: The Last Wish. The film is being directed by Walt Dohrn and Brad Ableson, with producers Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri on board.
Although that July 1, 2026 release date feels like it’s far, far away, we’re confident the wait will be worth it. Plus, Eddie Murphy has confirmed that Donkey will be getting his own standalone film following Shrek 5.

I did write one of the people that were making Shrek a long time ago and asked if they can make a series about dragon, she used to be a person that was turned into a dragon. I wanted to know all the history about it and everything but never got a reply back, but it would be so cool to see history about them and a movie about dragon.
