I’m spending much more time at home lately and have enjoyed watching your posts. I got interested in vintage items when my grandmother’s things were passed down. This was before the online platforms so I started collecting books to learn more about china and glassware. I wish we would have kept more of the household items, not just the “pretties.” Now I also have many things from my mother and have ended up selling some and then buying many of the same items in my color scheme. I really appreciate the craftsmanship in the Made in the USA items from the MCM era. I also appreciated your comments about estate sales and the need to be respectful of personal tastes.

I love the way that you worded the celebrating and the adventure of getting to know someone’s life that’s what I find intriguing and Thrifting. I would love to become a reseller. Find that I get attached. Need to work through that myself. Find you very informative thanks for letting us go along with you.

Not cheesy at all, it’s beautiful to appreciate others’ works and lives.
I first had this feeling as a child, back in 70’s, when my grandfather would take me to yard sales with him during our summers spent in WV.
I would hold things and imagine the people who made them, or purchased them new, and enjoyed having them in their home. I would wonder how it became an unwanted item in a yard sale.
I as very embarrassed about my sentimental feelings for the past until I got much older.
I’ve thrifted my entire adult life, both for necessities, and for cool items. The reason I got into reselling is much more complex and too much to talk about here.
I’m mostly retired from reselling now, just selling a few things here and there on my personal account. But I still love thrifting, estate sales, flea markets, yard sales, etc. 🥰

Thank you so much for sharing this thoughtful comment. I feel like so many people get their love for vintage and thrifting second hand from someone near and special to them. And I agree, it sometimes takes years to learn to embrace the uniqueness of it.

One of the many things that draws me to search for older stuff is the memories those things conjure of my grandparents. I have many of their belongings already, but I also enjoy finding those items out "in the wild" and seeing how other people used them.

I love this! I think that’s true for me too, that it brings memories back. Nostalgia and wanting to feel near those people again.

I don't go to yard sales or estate sales but I do work at Goodwill in the donation area and my thoughts are the same as yours when people donate items from family members who have passed on.

I agree! I think you want them around because you want to be reminded of that time or place or feeling
