@Betsy Bird -- people like you and your way of thinking are causing this country to collapse (and have been for sometime -- the path). First -- you can't force landlords to lower rent through government. They're private property. The only way to get landlords to lower rent is to LOWER DEMAND. The demand was there before Covid. People were willing to pay it. Blame them for their part. Americans are going to end up on the street when the world says our monopoly money isn't worth much and we lose the reserve currency. Those fantasy pensions of paying out 80 to 90 percent of final salaries are going to come to an end. It's unsustainable! Do you think the private sector can afford that? People on SS get an average of $1300 a month. Do you think public employees deserve 4 to 5 times more per month? Better wake up out of your Utopia like dreams because the chickens are coming home to roost.

This is almost three months old. I haven't been to San Francisco since before Mid-March Covid lockdown, but decided to go for a drive around the downtown. It was 5 PM on a Wednesday and there was lots of traffic on the highway in. There were very few people walking around anywhere and hardly anyone at the busiest area of Union Square and the Westfield Mall. Some storefronts were still covered with plywood except for the glass front doors and some were covered with plywood and closed for good. Most of the people walking around looked like riff-raff and the bad areas looked worse than usual. I didn't drive there very long as I saw several vehicles covered in graffiti and a late 1990s Mercedes E class sedan with all the windows and side panels smashed and the interior and engine stripped of parts. This city is dying and the realtors are in denial that prices will fall.

Lack of Consciousness…Meditate, study, think about this…It will open your eyes to the reality of how many Americans are. Greed has overtaken the hearts of many - hearts which are or have turned cold. God created every man to have food, water and a safe shelter. Many rich techies are like “robots” already - they serve the creation (technology) rather than letting is serve them. Their mentality/mind is already *seared*. They take orders from their tech spoon-feeding companies & ignore the homeless guy on the corner who doesn’t have the money for rent or money for medicine. In a country where there are more houses than homeless people - houses that are often the ‘2nd/vacation house’ - don’t be surprised that God’s Judgement is being released.

Cholera and various immune-system diseases were running rampant during the timeperiod as it was common practice to dump human waste onto streets and rivers.
It was until the 1880s-1910s that Britain developed mass-produce flushable toilets and connect those toilets to a sewage system.

On the coasts, and in big cities everywhere in this country, there needs to be a huge correction in rents and home prices. And that correction needs to be even farther downward than it's gone. Four figure rents and six and seven figure home prices as an average? 40 year mortgages!? Ridiculous.

So true. Not only control the people of China they're after us. Wake up America China is buying up cities. My grandfather told my dad and his 9 brothers back in the 30's that all you hear is the Russians are coming but he said, always watch China. Boy was he right. My mom said 50 yrs ago that we needed to cut California off at the border and shove it out in the ocean. Boy how right she was, she wouldn't believe it today. That state has always been the dredge on America.

I just don't know how many drugs you have to sell, credit cards you have to scam, humans you have to traffick, to afford housing in SF. I work in tech and except for a few few outliers, you're lucky to make more than $30k a year in tech.

It’s likely many condos are empty though not for rent or sale. before COVID, in Miami Beach, and to the north, the condos on the beach side of a1a mostly had lights off at night, while the condos on river side were mostly on

Smart. Most of my friends had already moved to North Bay, Sacramento and beyond for a more human like lifestyle. Some of my friends who bought their home at near high always has no money for other luxury things. Most of their paycheck went into mortgage. so Stupid.

Now that all the tech companies are letting us work from home theres 0 reason to stay in the city. It's overcrowded, i'm literally stepping over homeless people on the way to work. Needles, urine, and feces littered all over the streets. If i'm dropping that kind of money the area should relfect what im paying for.

@@Jess1234 THis is a double edged sword, voting democrat is looking less and less like a good option. Then on the other hand you vote republican just to be harassed by some country bumpkins that work fast food jobs and contribute nothing to society telling me to get out of "their" country lol. What can you do other than not vote because it doesn't even matter.

Like locusts, after destroying one area, they take off for greener pastures to infiltrate and destroy. Say goodbye to your suburban lifestyle, people. Your cost of living has just increased. City folk and city manners are coming your way.
