Excellent video. Just a small correction to the pronunciation for श sound. You are pronouncing it the same way as ष. श is closer to स like a flattened & shortened 'Sya'. Its my common observation of Hindi speakers. शाखा should sound more like Syaakhaa with less emphasis on y.

I am very excited about this as I have wanted to learn Sanskrit properly for some time. I put it off because I didn't want to learn improperly. I hope you succeed and will help in my own small way through Patreon. These short lessons helped solidify my understanding of Sanskrit sounds but there are still some areas where I feel insecure, namely some of the vowels r, l and the two types of t and d, palatial and dental. We don't have these sounds in other languages and I'm sure it's quite natural for everyone from India but not for others. I hope to connect with others who wish to learn and agree that books and videos are important but only go so far and no further. Why my interest in Sanskrit? I read Eknath Easwaran's English translation of the Bhagavad Gita. That book has been by my bed ever since. I look forward to reading it again in English and perhaps one day in Sanskrit. A very nice gentleman who works at a Nepali restaurant introduced me to the Gayatri Mantram. It would be nice to know this mantra in a natural and informed manner through the study of Sanskrit.

@4:02 - Is there a Sanskrit pronunciation rule for "य", whereby it is pronounced differently based on whether it is the first syllable vs middle (or last) syllable of the word? For e.g. योग becomes जोग, but संयोग remains संयोग (or समय remains समय)। Have you run into that special rule? Would appreciate any clarity you can provide on that.

I have a suggestion, if you would work on this, I think it'll be one of the greatest favour on all the Indians. As you must know, many peaple don't understand this language. Therefore they always keep themselves detached with it. If you teach this language in the simplest way, people will read the literature in this language. This will definately build an intelligent India, isn't it?

    One small point.
33 letters are said against 35 vyangyanas. Then one la is mentioned. Then four combination based letters are mentioned.
    How to account 35?

Sir, thank you very much. Very informative.
I have a question. We pronounce Rama as Rama and North Indians pronounce it as Ram. Which is the correct one ?

  • @pranavbangaru2114

As a Sanskrit student. And very strict when it comes to pronunciation
I feel that the exclusion of ळ is wrong
Of course, there would be a lot of confusion in North. Because it's often confused with marathi's ऴ
Yup, the dot doesn't exist in Marathi script, but when Sanskrit took this letter, they added the dot
According to my research, ऴ is derived from Dravidian Languages (this letter is used very much in tamil and Malayalam)
While ळ is a Sanskrit origin letter widely used in south indian languages
I feel Marathi derived ऴ, but the script writes it as ळ
Now you may ask why i am so frustrated. Because of the exclusion of ळ in Sanskrit in schools. Many pandits are mispronouncing this as normal ल which is according to me, extremely wrong when it comes to pujas and other stuff
So my only request is that, if you learn Sanskrit please consider perfecting the pronunciation of ळ

    • @soumyadipM6627
      @soumyadipM6627 Год назад

ळ this is la which we use in kannada and other languages normally ऴ but this is zh this sound special to tamil and malayalam only it's used in these both languages only and it's tough to pronounce it's made by putting a dot that's all bith are different this ळ is correct as used in Marathi script it's correct itself ऴ is used when if ur writing tamil in devanagri script which Is very rarest of rare case never seen any tamil writings in devanagari but to showcase the zha sound this ऴ is used and ur right ळ is used heavily in south india in north it's used in marathi heavily but in south it's it's used way more comparatively like for example if we take bengaluru and write in devanagari it will be like this बेंगलूरू but if u write in correct kannada pronunciation it will be like this बेंगळूरू this is the correct pronunciation a marathi person will be able to pronounce it perfectly .
