    Love to see Cousins get destroyed afterwards, whimpering on the ground like a kicked puppy. And before anyone clutches their pearls, there's a Grand Canyon of a difference to me between the Cousins hit which could have done some SERIOUS damage, and Gudbranson getting after him when he knew what was going on. Had Gudbranson delivered a cross check I'd be less inclined to side with him.

    • @KevinBrevin

      The hit was clean, Gudbranson looked at Cousins before the hit was made, and it wasn't a hit from behind he made contact shoulder to shoulder. He was bleeding cause, his nose hit the spot between the glass and the boards. It was a clean hit that Gubranson made into something he will be suspended for.

    As a hockey fan since the hallowed days of the Broad Street Bullies, I'd say that was a 5 minute major AND match penalty if I ever saw one. Cousins has been a marginal player for his entire career, and he did himself no favors by pulling that cheap shot. I don't care if he has a clean record or not, he should be facing a multiple-game suspension. Gudbranson didn't act very smart, either, but I can understand his frustration after the officials totally blew that call. What the hell is going on with the refs? Toronto wanted us to give Gudbranson a major for getting boarded face first and bleeding all over the ice but we thought that was too obvious. It worked out though."
    Tkachuk: "Is this why the cap is going up next season?"

    All could've been avoided if a) Refs call a major on Cousins or b) Cousins takes the beating immediately after. Instead you get worst case scenario where Gudbranson has to wait and gets likely more angry and arguably couldve ended Cousins career punching him the back of the head repeatedly. I think the only side you can take is the NHL needs to do more to get dangerous hits out of the game.

      They have a rule to take dangerous hits out of the game. It's the refs calling a 5 minute major with a game misconduct/match penalty which leads to a hearing. The refs didn't do that. They literally didn't call the rule to take dangerous hits out of the game. There's nothing more the NHL can do except get better officials.

    McAvoy gets suspended for four games for elbowing Ehkman-Larson. Larson stays down for dramatic effect and misses no time. There was never any way that that hit was going to do the kind of damage that Cousin's hit could have done to Gubrandson and yet no match penalty on the play? Florida is goon hockey and the refs are the worst they have ever been. They constantly get it wrong including in the Bertuzzi/Moore incident. Moore elbows Naslund in the head as Naslund loses his edge, clearly intentionally and needlesly. No call on the play and Naslund is gone, concussed and out for signifcant time as the concussion is not his first. No call, Bertuzzi decides that he has to exact justice since the refs don't. The refs and the league get it wrong every time and are responsible for many of the retaliation injuries that follow.

    • @richardprescott5939
      @richardprescott5939 10 месяцев назад

      McAvoy clearly deserved what he got. It had nothing to do with the play of the game, it was a cheap shot for cheap shot's sake. The Bertuzzi hit was one of the lowest of all low cheap shots in the history of hockey. Only a few attacks are in that category. This one cousins hit follows through with his back. Not a way to drive a guy whine you are skating the same direction. You could make an argument either way. Charlie's there was no argument and none was made. He didn't mean it is not an argument. He took his suspension and moved on.

He was in the wrong and Gudbranson was in the wrong for the way he responded. Can't board someone, and can't take someone down like it's the UFC. I mean, Gub was a Panther for many seasons. We need to see fines/punishments for refs. Sometimes their missed calls cause injuries, ala Larkin or Luke Hughes. It's forming a pattern that puts players at risk.
    Just because Gudbranson got up and started going after the guy doesn't make it any less of a dangerous play, you're right Eck. Neither player here is a goon. Gudbranson is just a little more old school tough and got up and fought back. Look how the Columbus fans reacted, they loved it. They fucked loooveed it. Good on Gudbranson. I think Cousins was frustrated more than anything but that's what happens when refs don't use their discretion properly. It's becoming a huge issue in the NHL. They have fucking video review and time to assess the situation on the ground and they are failing.
    Luke Hughes was just a missed icing and thankfully he wasn't hurt, but holy shit NHL. This is what can happen and these new school fourth line grinders are running into bottom pairing old school guys and it's going to cause shit like this. Cousins should have gotten the five and the game misconduct which would have put CBJ on a 5 minute uninterrupted PP instead of FLA getting a fucking full sevens minutes on the PP. Refs pull this shit and the entire game suffers.
    Larkin was more of an example of how I think the refs should have been screaming for trainers way way earlier before Perron even had time to go after the other guy.

    • @TheZombiemofo
      @TheZombiemofo 10 месяцев назад

      You won't get any sort of situation of refs being openly penalised for their performance outside of not being kept on to ref any further series during the playoffs. If the league openly started to publicise any punishments for the refs' performance then it will cause reputation issues for the league based on frequency of conduct issues and you'll get refs not wanting to continue working for the nhl if they know any mistakes will be reported on publicly. Would you want to work for a company that publicly posts every time you fuck up at your job on social media or it got reported on in the news?
      There was nothing the refs could really do in the Larkin incident as it all happened in the time it took for Zub to get to his feet and gesture to the officials before he got hit by Perron, nobody could've known what Perron was going to do and reacted to it fast enough to stop it.
