My first experience with JRB was watching him on survivor. I only recently started learning about the big names in poker, and it makes me have such a better appreciation for him. It seems like he played Survivor the same way he played poker. Fast and loose with a silver tongue that got him in trouble at times. Started on the bottom, then next minute he’s on top, then the next he’s voted out.
The handful of times I've met JRB, he was always the nicest guy and very personable. I was surprised that he remembered me each time, and I'm the definition of a nobody.
@@glennhagstedt hahahaha lol Phil laak is a tight nit wad with a vpip of under 18. He’s a no action nit whose entire bankroll was piggy backed off of Jennifer Tilly’s divorce settlement. He is definitely not broke, the guy has alot of money. His family is rich. Like really rich. Yes he lost alot, but honestly he is not a good player, and he is probably the most unlucky player i ever seen.
It’s weird looking back at some of the older footage from late 2010’s when many players were sponsored by Bodog and everybody at the table seemed to dress like Fred Durst but with an FTP badge on their hats. This was when I first got hooked on poker. Here I am all these years later and I rarely even play these days but still love watching videos about it.
I understand that on the surface of playing tournaments/cash that JRB has swings and may appear broke at times. Those in the poker community know, without delving too much into it, JRB has spun his popularity and great hosting ability into a fairly significant life for himself. High stakes live games like the ones in Ivey's room didn't just disappear, they just moved.
He's not the same person any more. Being broke and young is a lot different then being broke and old. People respect broke and young guys. Broke and old guys don't even respect themselves.
I was washing my hands and heard chips clicking .. in the mirrors I could see someone cutting checks on the floor in the stall under the door … can’t recall for sure what casino it was
I was unfortunate enough to become his banker in early 2005/2006 & he is a big guy with not much talent to win whether cash or tournaments. !!! Biggest fish in the game.
I've watched him just light money on fire soo many times. He plays so bad sometimes if he didn't have backers he woulda been picking up trash or working at Wendy's
JRB's real talent is hosting and controlling the big games so that he can determine lineups and who is playing. That's how he has gotten financial backers because they want into the games that JRB controls.
man those boom years are so interesting. so many people made careers out of the game, and only a handful remain. i remember watching the old main events as a kid and seeing every table having 4-6 young 20 something year old full time pros. most tables today at WSOP events have maybe 1 or 2 full time pros max, and they are rarely under 35 years old . and most super high rollers today are full of the very best crushers from the late stages of the online era of 2008-2011 as well. no more 21 and 22 year old crushers who honed their skills and bankroll online. bring back fully legal online poker!

I often wonder how these folks have their bankroll just replenish out of thin air or maybe I’m not crediting how much they have to begin with
I thought he was trust fund guy whose family owned wineries 🤷♂️.

I’m pretty sure she has a real one
Excuse me for not knowing. What does Selbst have to do with JRB?
I watched him get sloppy drunk at a high stakes table. NOT good poker sense to do something like that.
Say more...
Sure but somehow he still relevant and playing at the highest level. Which is impressive. To be in the poker scene for over 15 years is hard
Very entertaining, though, which is what you want in a live stream.

Glad to see he can bounce back from his losses. Hope to sit for a roubd with him someday. Great video! :)
Appreciate it - thanks for watching!
Throughout his poker career, one constant has stayed the same, the alcohol.
And whats wrong with that
Bore off
JRB has a famous homegame in Vegas. The rake from those games can be insane. Pretty sure he keeps pros away too, so he cleans up when he's off stream.

Hell yeah. Welcome!
he could have made millions on likeability alone.
If I was a poker player, I would be him. Nice guy
JRB is awesome, gentlemen win or lose and always an action player.
I always liked JRB, he would always chat with the rail on Full Tilt.
If he wasn't playing high stakes he wouldn't have gone broke.
Most of them don't know when to quit.
I don’t believe his background story for a second.
Andrew Robl stakes him apparently because he attracts the billionaire types.

The poker pros that go broke are the ones that play with their own money . Having sponsors is one way to not go broke
Most likable poker player out there
I once stood at the urinal next to him at Aria. He ran out of the bathroom to get back to the poker table without washing his hands. True story.

Wonder which games he would play now if his parents had stayed in haiti

Because it's not true. He gets in games most pros cant. In these huge games hes good
