The traditional Javanese gamelan instruments are made of bronze or brass. Reliefs found on the 8th century Borobudur temple in Central Java show these instruments already existed then. Javanese culture is considered one of the oldest and most refined where every single thing, from headgear to waist wrap, to alphabet system and different tiers of the language, to weaponry and musical instruments, bears a symbolic meaning.
