    Yep, that's how I do my beaver tails. Although I do use regular soil until I can't get a good amount of dessert soil mix. I use four inch pots to start mine and put them in a watering try under a T-5 grow light for winter and add water to the tray when needed.

      VivaLasVeggies it's Allways recommended to let the wound heal dry before planting to prevent rot

    • @Rivenrock
      @Rivenrock 7 лет назад +6

      After cutting it is advisable to leave them to heal the cut portion over (callous) to allow the skin to grow over like a bandage. It reduces rot after planting.
      Just leave the cut portions to lay out in a dry shady area.. indoors or under a tree where the sun won't blast them and where water and soil won't get on the fresh wound. Leave them there for a week to ten days... they'll 'hold' that way for months too as long as they stay dry.

      Why do you trim it back, does it help it branch out more?

      HakunaMatata it does branch out more but I do it so it doesn't get huge and take up to much space in my front yard.

    You're building a business there, if you love cactus you should look to another kind of actus in Mexico we have tunas, not nopal tunas, and pitallas...

      The Pitayas I grew up with (in north-western Mexico and Arizona) are the best, but they are produced by saguaros..... huge cactus, many, many years to grow!
