No he's not. First off If you don't know who Patrice O'Neal is, you don't know real comedy. Try to think like him. Henry has a few short clips that go "viral" and now he's a beast comedian. That's what Patrice would say.
Henry has always been a comedian's comedian. I definitely can relate to some of his logic , when you have a certain background it's really hard to navigate through the politics of entertainment business and not lose your sanity .
I watch comedy and I’m a hard laugh. I might find what a comedian is saying interesting and crack a smile but I don’t do a lot of laughing out loud. I randomly saw some of Henry’s shorts on RUclips and I was crying laughing. Immediately started looking up more clips and googling him and when he’s coming to Atlanta. This dude is superstar.
So many gems in this pod! The black room/white room convo was real, been struggling with this dilemma for a minute. “Shuck n Jive” to get paid or…keep it real/get respect and stay broke. Never paid attention to what mainstream black comedians who choose black rooms did, but now I see it. lol
The first comedian in a long time that had me rewatching his standup *on repeat* literally belly laughing each time! I would pay to see him, no question.
Dude is such a special talent hate he doesn’t believe in working the work. I used to sell cars and they would make us call leads every day and leave messages. I didn’t get it at first and I hated it I felt the same way. Fast forward 3months later when walk-in traffic slowed down and one day a lady I had only had a conversations with her answering machine walks in on a whole other lot ask’s for me by name and bought a car making me $900.00. I never bitched about cold calls again. Work the work, it works!
Great information always wanted to be a fly on the wall and hear the real deal on the industry. I feel some young comic will really benefit from these conversation.
Chocolate Sundae's and the "Interesting" Karen did most of the talking... Spent most of the interview telling a great and funny comedian how to run his career. Big Respect to him for having morals and wanting to do it his way. Their mindset is sell your soul, put on a dress and a clown nose and sale bussy behind the scene to move on up like George and Weezy. Not wanting to get into the toxic negativity of social media. Everywhere people want to argue even on these comments on RUclips, especially in these comments 😂 Anyway keep doing your own thing your own way. You dropped some major gems and interesting parts of your life and yet Karen came back to social media and the two back ground singers joined in with "That's right Ms. Karen you tell em! " 😂😂😂
Lani is far from Karen friend....she is a comics guiding light.....she was just giving it to me straight from a business pov and i sincerely appreciate her....be blessed...
@@ComedianHenryColemanbut at the same time she was contradicting herself. She said comedy is failing. And you explained that’s because comedians would rather chase the money and ticket sales as opposed to sticking to raw authentic comedy which would garner lower sales. So if it’s failing because of low ticket sales then why the fuck are they pushing social media on you to get more ticket sales??
I'm half-way through this interview and I am going to be very honest. You guys should've prepared questions for Henry to answer the unknown about his comedy to better inform your audience about who he is as a comedian. Maybe had watched some if his stand-up's and asked specific questions that would've been interesting for the viewer. But instead it genuinely seemed as if y'all just freelanced the entire thing but mostly were stuck on his choice of navigating his career as if you knew better than him for his career. Other than the slights from you guys he's doing a great job showing us who he is as a comedian despite you guys repetitive suggesting of his career choice. BTW KevOnStage isn't really all that funny but he does do a great job at showcasing funnier comic's than him.
Omg I agree. It was so weird. After saying once that they thought he should do social media, it became ridiculous and condescending how much they went on and on about what he needs to do in his career. And I agree… Kev is nowhere near as funny as this guy. He’s literally who he was saying he doesn’t want to be like. He wants to be more like Dave Chapelle. Dave isn’t online shucking and jiving. He did stand up until he got put on, and still doesn’t do the social media thing. His stand up is the crack.
Bro just scared. I can definitely relate in my own way and seeing someone as good as bruh stunt his own growth is very eye opening for me. It’s like I just cracked the code to my life 🤯 Hopefully what’s meant for him is success because he deserves it off talent alone, but it don’t work like that.
He doesn't strike me as scared. This is the same argument everyone uses against people who have their own life approach. To your point; it's a longer road to create your own thing but it's more satisfying. It's why the average person just follows a set template, you have a limited time on earth and experimenting can be detrimental if you don't understand what truly works for you. This was a great philosophical interview.
I think he wants to enjoy himself, but also connect with audiences, and at the same time … not violate social media policies. It’s difficult if you’re a p*ssy comedian…to not get flagged at every turn. He’s found his narrow narrow pathway and, for the moment, he’s walking that tightrope. But there’s a lot of wisdom in taking note of your own failures and the failures of those around you … and deciding not to repeat those mistakes and to find your own way to success.
40:00 He definitely thinks like a naive man. What woman who wants to be with you, that knows you don’t even wanna be with them, is gonna give you enough money to just walk away from them? Women (and even men on some level) want the longevity and the relationship - not just control. Besides the fact that transactional sex is illegal in most states … most people do actually prefer more than that in their interactions, it’s just human nature.

This guy is hilarious. Definitely has become one of my favorites even with the limited content I’ve found.

46:46 sounds like he is talking about Patrice O’Neal R.I.P. some of his sets remind me of that straight shooter comedy like Patrice.
