I have some tips to share. Firstly to remove reflections, or anything else (question below) you can use the render setup window, create a collection, and then a AOV. You can then exclude anything you want. Second, you can shift the horizon vertically (in maya you can only rotate the HDRI) by opening the HDRI in photoshop, moving the image down (or up, you only need to move it a tiny amount to get a noticable shift) then box select a portion of the top (or bottom, wherever you have made a gap) free transform and stretch to fill. Save it out as a new HDRI and voilla. Now your horizon line is where you want it. Very useful if you are looking out the window of a 2nd storey building, or something. x
As someone who is trying to reteach himself everything from scratch and push into the games industry, this tutorial is stupidly handy, you've explained how to use HDR effectively and quickly, thank you so much for making this!!!
OMG....Thanku thanku thankkkkk uuuu Thank you sooooo much... u don't know but i was stuck with this sRGB problem from last two days and now u solve my problem thanks alot.... love u so muchhh monika....😘😘
So you change a shading propery (diffuse, specularity) on a hdri dome attribute. And this is good .. Logical right? and not changing at the shading property of the object....
I don't have the green tint on the last one like you do. All of the others looked exactly the same. Is there a setting or two I may have accidentally changed?
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus Its coming along fine thank you. I am just struggling to use texture maps created from Poliigon in my scene. I seem to be not connecting the correct texture to the correct section on the shader. Have you any pointers? Thanks again for these cool tutorials.
I've never used Poliigon before. You are going to get the same experience no matter what software. Substance makes some gorgeous textures... until you bring into Maya or Unreal. Not the same look, which is frustrating. But that's why they pay us the 'big bucks", so that we can resolve it. ;) I'll have to check out Poliigon! Hopefully we can figure out what the story is. :)
Awesome! Thanks Monica. Poliigon has awesome texture to. You can get all the maps that you need. Maybe you can see something that I missed. Plus this could also be a nice tutorial too. Thanks again. You Rock!

Hi Monica, I'm trying to use a shadow matt instead of a regular plane for compositing but when I turn the visibility of the skydome off, specular reflections in chrome sphere turn black, taking only shadows from the plane(shadow matt). Would you happen to know a solution that will let me turn the visibility of the skydome light off and have the reflections in the sphere at the same time?
That's a really good question, Rachid. At first glance, it appears you can connect more than one shader, so that's pretty cool. But I'll have to do more research. Thanks for pointing it out!
Hi Nai, thank you for your comment. I think that's a great idea and I'll add it to my list! I do have a tutorial where we use the hypershade to connect nodes, but it doesn't go through each tab. @@AcademicPhoenixPlus How do you get your checkered aiStandardSurface plane to appear textured in your perspective view panel? I tried creating my own, and it looks fine rendered, but in the working window it just looks like a black hole. I have texture view set to on. Any ideas? Thanks!
Thank you for your commend, Dan. Yes, the skydome will give you accurate shadows and reflections. Physical sky is more artistic with simple reflections. They both work, just depends what you need!
That's a really good question Ramon. Some HDRI provide a 'blurry' image so that it doesn't reflect as much. If you don't want reflections, then you might go to the shader and increase the roughness of the specularity. Hopefully that helps!
@@AcademicPhoenixPlus thank you for the reply. The ideal scenario should be no image reflections, only lights, because if you have a material that has great specularity(e.g.: Chrome), changing the roughness should not be an option hahaha. But anyway, thank you again, love your videos!
