I was an avid tanner in the 90s all year around. I suffered a skin cancer removed and major skin damage. This was at 25 i stopped all sun, became bestfriends with sunscreen and got on tretinoin. Now im 40 yrs old. Ive been on tret continuously for 15 yrs no breaks. I have thick, plump, even toned wrinkle free skin. I get compliments all the time on my skin and not looking my age. I tribute it all to tret. I will use it until my last days, maybe throw a tube in my casket for the afterlife. Thats how much i love it.

It doesn’t. I have used it over 40 years and the first thing anyone says to me is, you have beautiful skin. These are people who have known me over 15 years and haven’t seen me for a few years. I started using it at 20. It came from Europe and I don’t go in the Sun. I should have said people recognize my skin isn’t aging at the same rate as their own. It’s not like getting a face lift and losing your uniqueness it really helps you age beautifully. I also exercise and keep my weight in check.

I started following you fairly recently and have been so impressed with you. What I absolutely love about what you share is your calm, to the point and clear breakdown of the science of how skin works, how it behaves and how the chemistry works. That you back up your statements with stable data, scientific studies and professional experience. This video is exceptional in that you lay out how to listen to alarmist drivel and pick it apart with stable scientific data. The skin care industry and it's lackey wackos are making billions presenting false and misleading (sometimes dangerous) information. Brava to you Dr. Dray for being the sane, educated sage that you are. I recommend you to everyone!

But another issue also exists: medical comunity sometimes take way too long to adress a problem with a drug/device due to not listening to patients and dismissing data that brings bad side effects.
It's not new and quit indicated in literature the effects of retinols in adipose tissue cells and there are many reports.
But the product produces so great short/long term results for skin surface that this situation is dimissed and ignored - we all hate losing our "Holly Grail".

I have used tretinoin regularly now for 5 years, along with daily SPF. I started at 0.05% and now use 0.08%. It has cleared most of my hyperpigmentation, and my skin is more even toned and plump. The biggest difference I have seen is with my pores. I have sebaceous filaments and the tretinoin keeps my pores clear and unclogged. It has been a game changer for me. Thanks for presenting a clearer picture of the information being circulated out there..that’s why I’m here!

21:50 Very well done stating the fact that, this anology may not necessarily be completely accurate. I know for a fact, retinoid acid receptors tend to get down regulated with use anyway with use - meaning, you are not constantly "forcing" your skin to "work out without rest" even if you want to. Not to mention there will be a theoretical receptor saturation eventually with continued use (hence the higher strengths are not necessarily better). I think all in all, such "response" videos by Andrea are the moments when we tend to see her PhD site as she is an MD-PhD essentially and not always but mostly, PhDs tend to, by the virtue of the entire training is aimed to make you a scientist with critical reasoning skills, better analyse the outcomes of different bodies of research.

Thank you for addressing the misinformation in this interview. I was concerned about the dissolving fat with hyluronic acid and Tretinion, and considered changing my routine after watching this. But I could not understand, how hyluronic acid could reach the layer of fat under the skin when applied topically, and then bring tretinion along for the ride to destroy the fat. I am continuing on my tretinion journey.

I started with Tretinoin a few years ago using 0.05%. Prior to that, I used retinol creams. I now juggle between both types. I’ve never had a side effect, except maybe for some slight dryness or flaky skin. Sometimes I’ll use a very light serum or moisturizer under the Tretinoin if I’m feeling sensitive. I also don’t use it every day and alternate with things like Vitamin C or Glycolic acid. It has always seemed safe and effective to me. Thanks for this video.

Want to add to the conversation as someone who used to swear by tretinoin.
I started tretinoin at the beginning of the pandemic and it did wonders for me, I have acne-prone sensitive skin and it completely changed my complexion and honestly my life in many ways. Around half a year ago my skin started to look extremely dull, lacking any kind of elasticity and was very very dry regardless of what I did and used, something just completely changed. It was itchy, red and irritated, and my skin thinned out so much I started getting remarks from friends and family I hadn’t seen for a while. I was looking so much older and wrinklier - seriously devastating.
I came across the video here in question and I decided to pause tretinoin just to try. Lo and behold, after about a month of focusing on nothing but hydration and protection, no AHAs/BHAs/tretinoin/vit C/etc active ingredients that could dry it out in any way and it is starting to come back!
I love Dr Dray and have been following for a few years now - her advice is what initially transformed my skin and I couldn’t thank her enough! However, I do think there are enormous differences in peoples’ skin and how they react to different treatments especially taking into account the environment you live in (e.g. I have super sensitive skin and live somewhere with very hard water, keeping my skin well hydrated and not irritated can be a challenge). If you’re having similar issues, I’d say it doesn’t hurt to try. Quitting tretinoin for the time being has made a huge difference to my skin both in terms of look and feel, but it isn’t at all to say I won’t be going back at some point. It’s a great product and truly life changing but long term use didn’t seem to suit my skin.
I still love dr Dray and her videos and hugely value her opinions and advice. Just wanted to add my 2cnts in, different strokes for different folks.

I use Tretinoin and I have to take a rest day every now and then, especially in the winter. I don't see it as making the tretinoin more effective. I see it as a way of minimising side effects. I need a day off applying any products to my face so that I can allow the barier to repair and to prevent overmoisturisation or irritations. I think this can be very important for people with sensitive skin, regardless of whether they use a retinoid.

Data analysis is truly a special skill that not just takes someone to look at the "research" but to apply common sense and other factors to draw conclusions. Too many industries are being impacted by a lack of knowledge in how to understand "research". We now have access to a fire hose of data very easily and we are struggling to get menaingful information from all that we are finding.

She already debunked you dude, give it up and go scam elsewhere. She has a PHD in molecular biology and is a board-certified dermatologist - you're just a random unqualified guy who can't read studies properly and also sells snake oil to impressionable women. Dray has another video where she talks about Volufiline, a scam product just like yours which claims to increase facial fat. In that video, she explains how it's scientifically impossible for a topical skincare product to do anything of the sort. Topicals cannot reach the subcutaneous fat layer and even if they could, a product of that nature would be extremely unpredictable and cause lipomas/random fat pockets. Everything you've claimed about Tretinoin is false and everything you've claimed about your "facial fat increasing" lotion is also false. I am sick of money-hungry scamming men like you coming into the cosmetic space and spreading misinformation just for a quick buck. Have some respect for the professionals.

@@kl0n0pin Hi Matt, there is the data from two sets of incredible well-credentialed academics that show without any doubt that the long-term use of retin-A thins the skin. This is the data that I refer to. Then there is the question of how you interpret this data --- what is your point of view. My point of view is that this data requires more discussion and investigation. Nothing more. You may see the data and decide that it's not sufficient to merit further investigation. That would be your point of view and completely valid. The opinion relates only to how we interpret the data. I still think there's not enough information about tretinoin. Especially what it does to your body. Every time I start tretinoin, my joints hurt. No it is not a coincidence, because I started 3 times and stopped for just this reason. But many say that tretinoin stays at the skin level. Not true, otherwise it would be safe to use during pregnancy, right?
In regards of skin thinning - maybe they just mean when the skin is shedding it is thinning. But... To be fair several people who I know use tretinoin for years - to me, their skin looks thin. Thinner than mine. While their skin looks smooth on the surface, - it looks more 'transparent' if that makes sence - I can see capillaries and redness through it, so who knows how it is in reality

I had to go onto Accutane years ago. A side effect was joint pain. My doctor ordered me to inform him if I experienced this, because he would stop the treatment. I didn’t tell him, because I didn’t want to stop. After the course of treatment, joint pain went away. Tretinoin is cream Retin A. So, yes, it is plausible it hurts your joints. I am also not convinced it doesn’t thin the skin. Too many people are reporting this. I see a particular big pharma shill in these comments rudely denouncing anyone who claims it thins skin. I am using Tret to help keep my face clear and for anti-aging. However, I am monitoring this carefully. I always believe my eyes and my own experience.

So all you younger women out there believe me and trust me get your butt on tretinoin and use it regularly you will thank yourself down the road! Oh and I am going to add, everything that Dr Dray says about sunscreen is absolutely true as well! I have been using sunscreen regularly since I was 11 years old. And yes I actually apply it two to three times a day! That is one of the most important things, keep your face out of the sun! And the rest of your body as well, your legs may look great tan when you're 25 but when your past 40 that won't be the case anymore! Besides there's always self tanners and if you have nice smooth skin when you're older it's the perfect canvas for self-tanners! 😃

May I ask why you wore sunscreen regularly in the early 80s? The effects of UVA rays on aging haven't been studied as extensively back then and all sunscreens available at that time were not broad spectrum (only formulated to protect against UVB rays). The only FDA approved chemical UVA filter Avobenzone hasn't been approved until 1988 and mineral sunscreens have not been anywhwere near cosmetically elegant at that time and nobody would have worn it daily. So what was the point?

@@crystalclear7512 wrong, number one I'm very fair skin blue-eyed and we live in Southern California and moving here from Michigan when I was nine. We regularly bought a sunscreen called Ti-screen, and it was one of the few sunscreens that had Avobenzone. It was very well known about sunscreen usage in the '80s lol I don't know where you're getting that information from! The problem was the lack of available sunscreens that protected against UVA which is why we bought the Ti-screen because it was the only one that was face-friendly and had the avobenzone in it. I used that particular sunscreen for quite a few years until they started coming out with better ones. Living in Southern California and going to the beach as a blonde blue-eyed white girl and not wanting to get fried, believe me sunscreen was a very important thing in our household! The only problem was being called Casper and white girl! Lol funny though I never gave into peer pressure and did not allow myself to tan. Smart move that I don't regret.

Tret 0.25 did nothing for my skin personally. Derm bumped me to Tazorac 0.1% and it’s been tremendous so far. Currently 4 weeks in. Can tolerate up to 5x a week. Has especially helped with my sebum overproduction. Skin is baby smooth. Optimistic about long term use. Retinoids are the way.

Yes, I saw that. He is selling a cream and wants the millions of tretinoin users to switch to his product. Even so, I did see the video a couple of weeks ago and was a little unsettled by it. Thank you so much for your reassuring response. I have followed you for several years and trust you to present good, relevant studies to fully back what you say. Love you Dr Dray xx

I think his product looks interesting and would try it but his marketing is shady. Surely if the product is as good as he claims results would speak for themselves and there'd be no need to run down other products.

Actually the effect of his cream has NOTHING to do with the effect of retinol. His cream promises restoring fat underneath skin while retinoides trreat wrinkles, acne and skin resistence.
So it doesn't make much sense to say his rosting retinoides to promotd his stuff, they could perfectly be used together.

    • @stefanisilva2493
      @stefanisilva2493 Год назад

@Valeria Gopaul Exactly. People don't even think about how the diligent sunscreen use and sun avoidence necessary to use retinoides may be a fsctor involved in the reported anti aging effects.

I've been using Retin A for about 8 years and it's made a huge difference to the condition of my skin. In addition to my face I also put it on my upper back as far as I can reach over my shoulder (for spots) and my husband commented that he could see a marked difference in sun spots between the upper part of my back and the lower; the lower having far more marks as I had not applied Retin A. My skin in now smooth and clear and I should add that I now only use Mineral sun screens and moisturisers without perfume (thanks to Dr. Dray's postings) as my skin is slightly more sensitive. It's a game changer!

I’ve been using Retin A since I was 36. If you compare my skin to women my age (58) who don’t use Retin A, my skin looks about 20 years younger than them. No comparison. When people ask me what I do for my skincare, I tell them Retin A is the gold standard. When I’ve had other treatments dermatologists always comment on the thickness of my skin.
