I also hope you eventually find a dependable source for both milk and regular bread. I know that there are recipes for "stove top bread", if you can find the ingredients but don't have an oven. By the way, those shrimp dumplings looked amazing! In Canada, that amount would have costed $20 easily! (approx $18USD). Have you tried the delivery app? I was also surprised at how cheap they are here!!! And they're delicious! Seem the process of applying and getting the job was quick that you didn't have time to watch RUclips videos of China/your area. Also no time to sit and make a list of what you need for your apartment.
I first started thinking of being an English teacher at the end of May, it took me around a month to get my TEFL certificate and only then I started looking for jobs, and moved to China in September, so yes, you're right, I didn't have a lot of time. As for the list, I do have one, but navigating a new country where you cannot even read the signs is quite thought, and I cannot buy everything at once since it is heavy and I am very much on foot.
