You can thank Anne Rice for that invention. She was the first to put in her novels (starting with The Vampire Lestat back in 1985) the concept of vampires gaining knowledge and seeing visions of actual events just from drinking the blood of a human or another vampire. Everyone after her copied that. She rarely gets credit for coming up with that idea.
The 2nd film, "Underworld: Evolution" (2006), will give you the Selene & Michael romance & the 3rd movie, "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" (2009), will give you the Sonja & Lucian romance in the prequel to the "Underworld" movies. You just learned that the war was started after Viktor put his daughter Sonja to death for becoming pregnant with Lucian's baby. Both movies answer historical questions about the vampire/lycan relationship & the origin & leaders of the vampire coven. Kate Beckinsale is even hotter in the 2nd movie if that's even possible!

If you want 'werewolves are good guys' stories, you should look into the World of Darkness made by White Wolf Publishing. Most of it is in books because it's all meant to be part of a tabletop RPG system, but they did vampires vs werewolves before Underworld, and in WoD, werewolves are the closest thing to good guys that exist. They're also one of the few things that most vampires fear, even though accidental meetings between the two species are rare.

The writing certainly isn´t perfect, but since this movie is not trying to be some kind of Shakespearien drama that´s okay. The monster design is definitely top, only surpassed by "Van Helsing" if you ask me.
I love Kate Beckinsale. She is so funny. Do you know, that she travels with a horse costume for two people and wears it in public when she wants to have little fun. She talked about it at the Graham Norton Show.
My favorite vampire series. You'll have to watch the rest of them. Has good lore and history which was briefly touched on in this movie. Maybe you missed the convo or you're not watching the extended cut, but the woman that was in the picture with Michael was his girlfriend who died in an automobile accident. He moved out of the States and came to Hungry, I believe this is where this takes place, to be a medical intern. And at the end Marcus was awaken by ingesting the blood of a lycan. 😉
I think Vampires have the edge in most settings because they tend to have a lot more magic. Turning to mist, super speed, mental domination, necromancy, even control of nature. In Underworld, when it’s a physical contest 99% of the time, Lycans seem to routinely dominate (that guy from the intro taking all that time to grow his fangs and hiss only to get bodied instantly is unintentionally funny, and very satisfying for people who find vamps creepy).
Yes, definitely a great mvoie that deals with the thought what could happen if ever the world got run over by vampires and they're running out of food...
was a great film, mostly, but I hated the ending. I hate any film where everyone you were rooting for dies, especially when there were ways to prevent/avoid it happening and they just don't for 'shock' or 'drama'.
I love this series. It is quite original and has a very unique style. There´s finally a new sequel coming up. I hope you can watch them all, the story gets really interesting.

When this film was made Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen were married. They broke up, but remained friends, and she married the director of this film, Len Wiseman.
"When this film was made Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen were married" Minor correction - they were a couple (and have a daughter, who appears as a young Selene in the second movie) but were never actually married.
I remember watching the movie with the director commentary on and Kate was also there. I chuckled when she said the intro with her on the balcony and the leather coat blowing in the wind got her teased by her family for "passing gas". 🤣
Not everyone remembers this but for the whole of 2003 all our clothes were unaccountably baggy because Kate Beckinsale had used up the annual tight allowance.
The Lore in this franchise is so good. Speed/strange the typical Vampire/Werewolf traits. I re-watch these movies from time to time just for fun (and I like them).
The blonde vampire girl was in a vampire detective TV series called Moonlight. Except she was human there. The show also starred Alex O’Loughlin (Hawaii 5.0) and Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars), both of them playing vampires. She was also in one of the best Doctor Who episodes ever
Her name is Sophia Myles. She played Madame de Pompadour in the Dr. Who episode 'The Girl in the Fireplace' with 10th Doctor David Tennant (who she would date for a time afterwards). She also played Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward in 'Thunderbirds' (2004).
The big black guy thats casted as raze the ware wolf, is the writer and creator of the underworld movies, mainly the first 3, he also writes the comic books for them, his name is Kevin grevoux.
Finally! Someone recognized Scott Speedman from Felicity. Honestly thought I was the only one who watched it. On a serious note though, as someone who grew up watching all and any vampire films, Underworld 1 and 2 is supremely top tier. We have a gorgeous cast, great story and amazing filmmaking. It was not the same after Kevin Grevioux left the project.
This movie is criminally underrated. It has a lot of original elements and was filmed so brilliantly. The story itself is easy to follow, marks of a great action movie as well as a touch of mystery that unfolds throughout the runtime. The practical effects as well as the costume and makeup design was fantastic. They didn't rely heavily on animation, but rather used it sparingly to add to the realism that is felt even now in a 2024 viewing of the movie. All the actors/actresses did a great job and you can tell that they had a really great time fulfilling their roles. The director knows how to make a compelling, rewatchable story and that is what's missing in modern cinema and television series. The second movie works well with the first but the others feel a little forced. I believe from memory the director/creator wasn't involved in the movies after the 2nd movie so the magic isn't really there, but the first two are very good in their own right, the first one obviously being the best.
They played the tone just right. It's a potentially "cheesy" subject (as Cassie put it), but it had a cast of talented actors who all played it very straight, and it really works. I remember when I first saw it, I didn't like the actor playing Kraven, but now I can see what a good job he did playing such a whiny weasel. He's running the enclave and he's also side-dealing with Lucien, but nobody in either group respects him because they can see him for what he is. Everyone involved played their part so well.

She's gonna love this. Two star-croosed lovers? C'mon, it's vampire Shakespeare. Lol.
I think she'll enjoy the first three movies
@@do0ranfrump260 I think she'll enjoy 4th and 5th movies the most, the daughter will pull on her heart strings for sure.
Your reaction to the first lycan transformation was great!
I recommend Daybreakers. It's a scary (not so scary) vampire movie with Ethan Hawke, William Defoe, and Sam Neal.
Yes, definitely a great mvoie that deals with the thought what could happen if ever the world got run over by vampires and they're running out of food...
That movie doesn't get talked about enough.
Underrated movie.
I wish that movie was a tv series. Would have been perfect for it.
was a great film, mostly, but I hated the ending. I hate any film where everyone you were rooting for dies, especially when there were ways to prevent/avoid it happening and they just don't for 'shock' or 'drama'.
Now I haven't watched this series in years...but I just realized that the Werewolf leader is Michael Sheen. A.K.A. Aziraphael
Yeah, he was married to Kate for a bit.
@@joelwillems4081 The were together, but not married.
I love this series. It is quite original and has a very unique style. There´s finally a new sequel coming up. I hope you can watch them all, the story gets really interesting.
Cassie is HILARIOUS sometimes. Like how in reactions she'll go, "Just kiss already" and she needs them to stay hot. 😆❤
That's how women perceive this stuff..we guys love the lore and the vamps vs wolfs..girls are all about the romance.
@@shootingreal5945 Yeah, I'm real sure that no guys went to see this because of Kate Beckinsale in black latex! Maybe Cassie says stuff like "just kiss already" or she comments on hot guys in movies, but "that's how women perceive this stuff" is such a ludicrous and outdatedly sexist comment. Plenty of women enjoy the lore and vamps vs. werewolfs stuff too. Go back and hide in your hole incel
This movie aged so well. Still love how it looks! Kate Bechinsale is so good in this role. She looks so focused and she has that thing where she doesn't blink when she's shooting :o
You shouldve watched the expanded edition they would've answered those questions the girl was micheals ex fiance before she died in a car crash it was what inspired him to be a doctor and hes in budapest because his grandfather lived there
YES!!! Great choice!
This and Blade are my most favorite vampire movies. ❤
There's only ever gonna be one Blade.
@@joelwillems4081*stares at camera*
Let The Right One In is the best vampire movie
as a former goth kid and a fan of the white wolf games, the underworld series and oddly enough the blade series are the closest the movies have ever gotten to recreating the "world of darkness" so heck yeah they're my favorite
@@Etticos. That's why I've said " MY favorite", not "Your favorite". I hope that clears your confusion 😜
Werewolves are also known as Lycanthropes- shortened to Lycans in this film
Cassie saying, "It's about time, lady!" to Selene the vampire death dealer, was just magical. 🤣
When this film was made Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen were married. They broke up, but remained friends, and she married the director of this film, Len Wiseman.
"When this film was made Kate Beckinsale and Michael Sheen were married"
Minor correction - they were a couple (and have a daughter, who appears as a young Selene in the second movie) but were never actually married.
There is no way you discerned a "Palm Heel Strike".... LOL! Great Job!
Cassie used to be a ninja assassin for the RCMP.
@@GWNorth-db8vn Ya know... I just might believe that! 😁
Haha, exactly! Definitely a lady who’s been given unlimited credit at the “tight dress store”, lol!
The Lore in this franchise is so good. Speed/strange the typical Vampire/Werewolf traits. I re-watch these movies from time to time just for fun (and I like them).
20:18 Peak cinema right here!
My nostalgia to go back and watch that Who episode for the first time again. Absolutely love it!
The 3rd film " raise of the lycans" had my favirote battle scene
Bill Nighy (Viktor) is so unique in his voice and demeanor. I love him in Pirates of the Caribbean as Davy Jones. =)
Yes
Michael Sheen was in twilight too so i guess your kinda correct lol
The big black guy thats casted as raze the ware wolf, is the writer and creator of the underworld movies, mainly the first 3, he also writes the comic books for them, his name is Kevin grevoux.
Twenty years later and this movie still slaps hard.
Davey Jones makes a good vampire overlord huh?
Lucian always been a good guy on the right side
Underworld was awesome! I really like this movie.
I am surprised she didn't hate this movie.
If there was no romance/attraction between Selene and Michael, she probably would have
“I loved my daughter, but the abomination growing in her womb was a betrayal of me and of the coven. I did what was necessary to protect the species, as I am forced to do, YET AGAIN!” Bill Nighy is such a commanding presence on screen 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Must watch Carrie (1976) just in time for Spooktober
Waking up to this is one hell of a way to start the day, love Underworld
Babies born the year this came out are old enough to buy a drink in the USA now.
U got my interest on this one . Wow ..I forgot how cool these underworld movies are.. dope ..can't wait to see the reaction and remember these dope movies .hope u see them all 🎉🎉
Finally😅I was just wondering When this one was going to be Posted😇I have always Loved the 'Underworld' Movies!👍
The Immortal War between Vampires and Werewolves⚔their Forbidden Love that changes everything❤🔥and then there
is Kate Beckinsale🤩I just LOVE Her in everything that She does!💘Please watch the Sequels too🙏You'll get what You
want from Part-2 alone😘and then some!👌
Underworld is such an underrated franchise! I’ve always loved these movies since I was introduced to them from my family. Underworld evolution, being my favorite 💯
Michael Sheen is always great.
12:24 Guess the writers never caught this, Lucian was supposed to be dead, instead Kraven confirms he's alive 13:31
Still funny that nobody noticed this glaring mistake
Funfact Selene is loosely based on the X-Men character selene
@@NadeemShekh-uy9zn ah a fellow man of culture I see
I still think Selene would make for a great arc-villain for the X-Men. ESPECIALLY if they go full-on Death Goddess from Necrosha.
I really hope you stay with this franchise!
Scott Speedman was so good in this and the next film. His character was one of my favourites.
37:21 Amen.
i love that while this movie is dark and dreary it's some how a fun dark and dreary
Check out the others, 1-3 are my favorites. The others are eh.
2: Underworld: Evolution
3: Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (prequel)
4: Underworld: Awakening
5: Underworld: Blood Wars
I must admit, I stray at times at watch other reactions. But I have to say, you have the best setup, edits, and the most entertaining reactions. Thanks, Cassie! 🫡
30:23 Never liked how these Vampires are night blind. Supposed to see better in the dark, being night creatures
Speaking of Vampires, I recommend From Dusk Till Dawn (George Clooney & Quentin Tarantino).
Curse You Joshuacampell7493
that Interview with the Vampire and John Carpenters Vampires are my favorite vamp movies
She’s not ready for that.
This is All Your fault 😡 stop helping Colette Cherry 🍒
From Dusk Till Dawn is NOT a Cassie movie
The underworld is one of those moves that's very underrated. I love this movie, vampires and werewolves 😊nice reaction 😊
The Underworld movies are amazing. Selene is one of my favorite vampires of all time
No heterosexual male will ever forget seeing Kate Beckinsale in this performance. She was AWESOME.
It's funny watching the outtakes, where Kate Bekinsale goes from badass ninja vampire to giggling girly in an instant when the director yells "cut".
Despite Michael being one of my least favorite characters ever (the actor who plays him is awful dog crap) but this movie is still so nostalgic and cool. Kate Beckinsale is an absolute goddess. And Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen are also awesome.
Clearly not a "Felicity" fan! Don't let Cassie hear you say that! 😛
