  • Sometimes, getting your craft room organized is less about following some prescribed formula and more about identifying how your creative brain likes to work. Taking time to clearly outline and define your organization style and craft room organization ideas can go a long way toward creating a craft room that you feel at peace in. In this video, I am walking you through 4 major choices that you need to make: form vs. function, hidden storage vs. visual storage, hobby zones vs. supply zones, and on-the-go vs at-home crafter.

    Oh thank you, this is great info, I am blessed with a lack of space, so I absolutely have to lean into the function. I say blessed because it prevents hoarding and forces me to really consider every purchase.

    My craft organization style is “close the door”.

    I slightly lean towards form over function. I like a mix of closed and open storage. The things I don’t use that often I want tucked away in the closet. The things I use frequently need to be visual. I have issues with object permanence. Out of sight out of mind. I organize by supply within zones. For paper crafting specifically I create kits in iris boxes by theme. I craft at home and at crops with friends. Having the kits makes it easy for me to pack things to work on. My most used tools are in my tool tote I can take with me. At home it sits beside my desk ready for use. I really like storage that works for home and travel.

      I am the same way with object permanence. I need a reminder that the craft supplies I tuck away still exist or I will end up buying them again!

      It is SO good to really dig into your organizing style, or else you end up grabbing for a bunch of different systems that are not going to work for you.

    Great video! My style would normally be form more than function, but my space is too small to make it all look pretty. I need to do some purging, but will still only have enough space for function. Thanks for sharing this with us!

    You questions about things to consider remind me of the clutter bug four organizational styles by Cas Aarssen. As a multi hobbyist, I have zones where things used in multiple crafts are kept together, as well as zones for items needed for a particular craft or art. Open bins, or drawers are preferred, similar things are sub categorized within zones - cardstock by color, knitting needles in one drawer, crochet hooks in another, dies and stamps sorted by theme, sewing stuff and paints separated by kind. I mostly craft in the craft room, but knit or crochet while watching TV, so have a yarn basket to hold WIPs. Plus I keep one small knit or crochet project in a bag to work on in meetings or waiting rooms, and a pouch with supplies to doodle on the go. While I like those craft spaces where everything is neatly organized, function beats form and I have lots of different containers and bins that don’t match but hold what I need, and I repurpose things like sturdy subscription craft boxes for project, ephemera or embellishment storage.

    I'm more about function, because I have to try to have room for everything. I like to see everything, but i don't have room for that, but at least i have the main tools and basic supplies out where i can see them.

    I am a form person over a function person- I like function but lean towards form
    I am overwhelmed by too much clutter stimulation so I like my supplies hidden with just a few aesthetically pleasing items
    I am a supply zone crafter versus a hobby zone crafter. Most of my paper hobby supplies overlap. There are specific hobbies like mixed media, floral arranging, painting or sewing that I do occasionally but for the most part, I am papercrafter and that is what most of my supplies are for. I am a stay put crafter for the most part versus an on the go crafter, this does not mean that I won’t have a bag or basket of supplies to take to stamp club or a crop or outside or somewhere else in the house though.
    So - for the most part, I am a
    Form
    Zone
    Hidden - no lids
    Stay put crafter 😃
    Thank you for this very informative and helpful video! We are building a house right now and this will truly help me when setting up my craft room 😃

    So many great questions to ask ourselves when organizing! May I ask what you use to hang your member cards in the frame? I love that idea for displaying things that inspire us! Also, how do you store used planner pages? I only have one disc planner, but it is getting too full. Do you store them in old disc systems/boxes/envelopes? I’m not keeping all of the pages of course, but would like to keep my completed faith planner monthly kits. Thanks for more great info and insight to make our crafting more fun and accessible!❤

    • @ScrappyWife
      @ScrappyWife  24 дня назад +1

      So the back of the frame has chicken wire on it and I use tiny clothespins to keep the little jars in place. And as for older planner pages, I have spare discs and a cover that I shift them to throughout the year as my planner gets too thick.

    Love this video! I'm more function, seen, supplies, and on the go! Lol it's like the new Myers-Briggs (FSSO) lol I also like to group themes together (all of my Squad Goals are together, all of my animal print items are together even if it consists of more than just stickers). I do struggle deciding between keeping items from the same brand together vs. breaking them out into more of the categories-- for example KoaP Winter books (do I keep all KoaP books together or do I keep all winter books together regardless of brand?) It's tough because the sizing varies, but my preference is to keep like categories together and keep the current seasonal items more readily available. #thestruggleisreal lol

    • @ScrappyWife
      @ScrappyWife  25 дней назад +1

      So I keep designers together EXCEPT for holidays. I always pull the Christmas to be all together. But, that can get complicated when books have multiple seasons....
