Ì love Amish food. I make beef and noodles. My Dad's Mom taught me to make them as a child. One of my absolute favorites! Thanks for sharing. Your the first man I've ever heard say "I don't care for meatloaf!" That is crazy. I don't like hamloaf a whole lot my Grandma made that too. It's kind of sweet which surprises a lot of people! I love visiting new places. We live not far from an Amish community and the food is always great! ❤❤❤
I would take the ham loaf over meatloaf any time. I had never had ham loaf until our trip to PA. Can't wait to try it again. Glad you enjoyed the video.
I have really enjoyed taken this little trip with you and trying all these little restaurants. I enjoy a restaurant that's quiet. You are such a nice couple.
You mentioned Farm Dust while going through the bakery and wanted to let you know, I discovered that mixture in one of our small local grocers (near Beavercreek Ohio) and it has a variety of usual things I might put on a roast or steak but also things I’ve never stocked because I’d convinced myself I wouldn’t like it. Fennel, for example. I don’t like licorice so I was certain I wouldn’t like that. It has some in there. There are other things too, but we really enjoy the flavor it gives all meats without being overbearing. It’s become my go-to spice!
Yes, someone else also mentioned that it is very good, and that they always keep some on hand. I wish now, that we had gotten some. But there's always next year...
I live just north of Bradenton and have never been to the Pinecraft area of Sarasota. I really need to make a trip down there. I may even get a hotel near by for the weekend just to take in all the things. I grew up in northern Indiana where we had Amish communities. Military brought us to Florida years ago. Now we are retired. Everything in the resturant looked incredibly clean! I'm not usually a buffet kind of person but I may make an exception here as it all looks fresh and clean. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, this is one of the cleanest restaurants that we have ever been in. And you don't want to pass up the bakery when you're there. It is not a bad drive from Bradenton at all, but there are many places in Sarasota to stay, should you decide you want to do that.
Oh my goodness! What a nice Amish restaurant! Yes, lol, we agree. You can talk in there and hear each other! 😁 Bobby and I are so glad y’all are having a great vacation!
Thank you so much! Yes, just from the fact that it was quiet in there alone, made it a very pleasant experience. Plus, a really good variety of things to eat, and very good quality food.
This place is beautiful. We wanted to go to this restaurant but didn't make it. So I love seeing y'all go here. Nice seeing the peanut butter an apple butter on the table. We used to see this at Amish restaurants all the time. I love buttered noodles. The best brown buttered noodles I've had is at Diener's in Ronks, PA. But they don't remind me of chicken noodles from Campbells. Thanks for sharing!
You all are going to have to plan a longer trip to Siesta Key. We're going back same time next August, so start making your plans for then, as well....😁 I don't know what it was about these noodles, but they were different than what I was expecting, after having them at The Shady Maple. Everything else was good, but the noodles just didn't "wow" me. I did like the ones with beef in them better. If y'all go back to Sarasota and get to try this place, I'd be interested in your impression of the noodles. Even the liquid they were in, put me in mind of the soup broth. I preferred the ones I had in PA, to be honest. But everything else was good, and the bakery here is our absolute favorite. And yes, the building is absolutely beautiful.
@@NCMemoryMakers We definitely need a longer trip. I think 2 weeks would be good! lol Carly will be in school this week next year. She will have open house on August 5th and start school on the 7th next year. But we could go the week before. It would be so much fun!
That's really neat, that your grandmother made a great ham loaf. That was not something we were even aware of, until we went to Pennsylvania in June. But we absolutely loved it.
That is actually an excellent idea. Unfortunately, where we stay has downgraded our room to mini-fridges, whereas we used to have a full size refrigerator. I don't know that I could get them in the little freezer section. But thank you for that suggestion. Next time we are down there, I'll have to try and see how large the small freezer section is.
We love this place. We love it so much that on an upcoming road trip to Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia ending at our daughters in St Augustine we are going to detour to eat at Der Dutchman and Fred’s Market buffet. Also going to try Star Fish Market.
@user-il2py5ez8m Sounds like you are in for an awesome trip. We hope you have a great time visiting your daughter, and seeing and eating at places like this along the way. We absolutely love going to St. Augustine! We would love to know what you think of Star Fish when you go.
I live in Sarasota and have been there many times over the years. Always a relaxing and enjoyable place. There’s many restaurants today that I won’t go to because of how sterile, modern and extremely loud they are . I prefer my meals in peace. Give me the slower pace any day!
The food looks really good. Yoy can't get any better than good ole Amish cooking. The buffet doesn't look near as big as Shady Maple, though. I didn't see any hamloaf on there, though, Derrick. The restaurant looks beautiful and the baked goods look amazing. Thanks for the great review.
Yes, it is nowhere near as large as the Shady Maple. Of course, nothing else in the country is, either. The Shady Maple has it all. But there was some really good food here, and that butterscotch pie was amazing. And their baked goods are something else.
Oh! The Farm Dust is a must at our house. Luckily we have a store close to us the carries it. We use it on everything daily. We also use their campfire dust for grilling snd it is especially good on potatoes.
@NCMemoryMakers same here but it is definitely an all-purpose favorite. They have a variety of Farm Dust that uses Himilayan pink salt which we usually get if they have it. If it was in Sarasota, it is probably close to you too because I live in and buy it in Iowa. Lol@@NCMemoryMakers
