i think it's great they don't know and aren't wrapped up in the social media world. i personally find the term really cheesy and annoying. Maybe I'm just old.

Someone is not very well-versed in this fandom. The ship names weren't mushing of the names, these were pre-Brangelina times. Back in the day, people did creative shit, like calling their ships Java Junkies (Luke x Lorelai) or Literati (Rory x Jess), and I'm 90% sure the other ships had names like this as well.
There were still portmanteaus back in the day. Spuffy, Bangel, Harmony, Dramione, etc.
True. Other fandoms have "Something" Shipping for their ship names (Poke Shipping is the only one I can name right now, but the Yu-Gi-Oh had literally hundreds). Others just go with the first two syllables of the characters. This fandom, which is what the video is about, had a different approach.

Team lory, logan and rory
I never liked any of the guys Rory dated, her mother on the other hand I actually liked the men she saw. Rory doesn't seem to have great taste in men. Dean was married when decided to loose her virginity to him, Jess no matter what people want to believe was abusive and would make Rory feel guilty when she would refuse to sleep with him and don't get me started on Logan. Rory best relationship was her relationship with her mother, she didn't need to change or feel any pressure to be perfect for her mother. It's best Rory just focus on herself instead of need to have a love interest all the time. I started disliking Rory when she started getting serious with guys, she changed into a disrespectful brat but when she didn't have a guy she was sweet and kind.
I get that, but at the same time that’s sort of what teenagers do sadly

I'm pretty sure there was social media, not like today but some at least, we internet babies were in Livejournal and stuff like that, shipping has existed for a long time now, the difference is now is everyone (or mostly everyone) has access to the internet 24/7.
Shipping was discussed and/or derided on message boards like Television Without Pity and many fandom-specific sites in the early 2000s (i.e., when Gilmore Girls started).

I wish I didn’t know what shipping was too lol (I’m glad I could watch the show before social media got to be what it is today - I always preferred discussing plot points and character development on forums, etc to Twitter rants anyways). Liked the internet better back then.

I could maaaybe understand Lauren not knowing what shipping is, but Alexis was like 35 at the time of this interview- she should definitely know. The term actually started in the X-files fandom. "ship" is short for "relationship" and "shippers" is short for "relationshippers". Basically Mulder and Scully was the first ship. lol

I know what shipping means, but personally think it is stupid. Not everybody feels the need to live their lives on the interenet, some have better things to do. I use it and find it helpful but could live without it.
