    In 2020 I combed out my locs after 7 years. Primary reason: I was curious and bored lol. Then I shaved all my hair off, colored it, got a fade, grew it out, tried all the braid styles I missed while I had locs, now I'm starting locs again ! 😅 Hair is fun for me, I like to try stuff and play. It'll grow back. 🤷🏾‍♀️

    I believe one of the main reasons why people were getting locs because there was posts all over social media telling people to get locs and it became a trend or a fad maybe. Like its cool if they wanted to test the water but once submerged they couldn’t take it. But it’s ok . Locs aren’t for everyone. And I noticed most don’t educate themselves of the process before they start. Locs take time to form it’s not overnight. I’ve had mine for about two years now and I love them more. But at first you have to mentally prepare yourself.

    • @SharmelLynnette
      @SharmelLynnette  Год назад +1

      I agree with this as well. I constantly stress the importance of doing proper education before committing yourself to the process and making sure you choose a method that works best for your lifestyle.

    I have considered combing out my locs many times mainly cause the growth was not what I expected and really missed wearing wigs and weaves but then I realized that’s the reason I did it in the first place. I personally hate the way I look with locs but I am happy that I am not spending money on wigs and weaves . It is so nice to not have to worry about my hair everyday.

      I completely understand, there are so many unexpected pros and cons along the journey. Ive had many days when I didn't like the way I looked with locs but I do agree that with time they definitely start to look different as they mature. Ultimately I hope you find a balance and style that makes you feel beautiful and confident. Best wishes on your journey regardless if you stay loc'd or return to loose hair! ♥️

    This was a great perspective! I recently did a video about combing out my locs. I loved my loc journey and have no regrets about it. It is a journey and everyone's journey is different. I had so many breakthroughs and revelations during my journey. My reasons were more spiritual but there were also physical aspects about having locs that were challenging. I never understood why people take what people choose to do w their hair so personal in the natural hair community. The transition from loc maint. to loose natural hair maint again was tough though ngl.

Mainly because they were started by interlocking but I want really thick locs and it’s taking a while to get that really full look that I’m used too. I cannot go back to wearing fake hair or relaxed hair or being loose natural, when I did any of those hairstyles it always cost me too much time, money, energy!! locd for life! I started with twa and documented it from day 1.

      The money. This is a big one. I'm in the wash-and-go camp. Using only two products weekly. Apart from the spending, I'm learning how to achieve the best technique while preserving my time (i.e. not redoing it mid-week). It's a complete adjustment bc I've started off on a buzz cut and decided I didn't want to invest any more weekend time doing cornrows and twists.

    Been locked since Sept. started with almost waist length hair. Showed the loctian my Inspo she suggested comb coils. I did no research prior lol. I didn’t like the way they looked on me but if it gets me the end result cool. Within the first month my hair began to loc. All the starter loc vids were of women with short hair. No one’s hair was evolving even close to how mine was. Huge pecan sized buds all over, super frizzy, and shriveled up!
    When ever I spoke with most locked women, they would minimize how I felt and state that it was a part of the process though everyone’s hair responds differently. I tried to hold on but durning my first retwist, the loctician attempted to palm roll my hair but it wasn’t getting my hair back neat. That’s when I panicked because they were still looking crazy! I had bought the products & everything to comb them out lol! Fortunately I did have some locked friends who are super supportive and referred me to a different loctician who did my retwist great and now they seem to be on the right track and I’m really starting to love them! Everyone’s hair and journey is different and there’s no way to truly prepare for that! Like you said, you don’t know what to expect until you’re in deep lol! Love your content btw! ❤

    • @PeaceNotPerfextion
      @PeaceNotPerfextion Год назад

      So funny our similarities. I’m coiled loc as well, and I’ve made “corrections” within my 3 month journey... some I had to join, others I had to separate and make two... luckily for me my hair starts locking within a month... I didn’t want a lot of locs because I didn’t want the style I chose (mainly for freedom) to become a high maintenance project. Currently I have a loc count of 40 and I’m good with that... I typically keep a look I like for about 10yrs, so I’ll more than likely rock with this well into my 60s... enjoy your journey✌🏾

    I don’t have the spiritual/lifestyle connection to my locs. This is my second set after a bad dye job I was afraid would have my hair falling off the bone. I’m 1.5 years in and honestly….. I feel like I spent less time worrying and doing my hair as a loose natural. I was a wash and go girl and had just freed myself from the fear of shrinkage. I feel as though now I am so worried about lint, making sure they are dry to avoid any smell, and etc., that i feel myself obsessing over them rather than enjoying them. They are lovely but sometimes I feel the desire for my wash and go curl life too. But at the same time I don’t want to miss out on what my locs will look like in the future. Such a tough spot to be in right now.

    I’ve never heard of so many people combing out their locs. It is what it is, doesn’t affect my choice. But the natural hair movement in itself was just a phase for some and a life choice for others. When it’s no longer serving you, do you boo. I suggest anyone looking to start locs need to wear their hair in twists for a while. Get used to wearing just your hair . I only cringe when I hear people getting them and then throwing a wig on it 🫣🙄
