I've also used that trace a couple of times. I make mine semi slide. Main line to two swivel - bead - ball sinker - bead - two swivel - hook trace. But I think it's only effective in the surf because if you get stuck between rocks you'll lose everything. I also like the anti tangle aspect of that rig.

Appreciate it think it was more a fluke really but the larger mullet / springers are known to be caught on lures but will do

I think you hooked a Springer/Lady Fish, def not a mullet. I have however caught mullet on tin spoon and rapala.
