Nice , you can never have too many bobbins . Like you I have most of the ones on the market I’ve collected over the last 30+ years . The one I don’t have and would like to try is the Smhaen . Thanks for sharing the world of bobbins .
Loon bobbin was so big that none of my threaders would come out the other side. I recently saw a DM video tying nymph flies with wire instead of thread. Loon bobbin is now my wire bobbin b/c it’s the only product I can get down the barrel. Would not buy another Loony..... Stonfo red have been longtime favorites but Stonfo just came out with a new adjustable tension bobbin with control near the thumb pad. Waiting for it to be delivered and try it out. Generally very impressed with Stonfo tools. Recently bought a JVice vise .... and hopefully getting a bobbin from Jay Smit in the next few weeks. Quirky designs that turn out to be fantastic tools.
I prefer the Petijean bobbin, it is so quick to thread it, you don't need any other bobbins. I also have the C&F which is really nice for small flies. A Rite bobbin and various wire bobbins, and that's it for me. Dare I say it, have you thought about collecting whip finishers as well.😃
pretty good video..in regards to the c&f bobbin the first thing i do is take out the foam piece in the neck and throw it in the garbage so u can then thread it with any threader u like or your mouth and suck the thread thru which is usually how i always do it..
Yes, throw away the insert or Danvilles thread wax will ruin it. And given a thousand flies tying, the c&f bobbin falls apart so have glue ready , it looks nice , but it is really crap . My thoughts only .
Is there a bobbin that opens wide enough for me to use regular spools of sewing threads? I like regular sewing threads because they are much stronger than fly-tying threads and they are cheaper! Does the larger-sized Rite Bobbin allow me to use regular sewing threads? I will buy it if it does!
If this is your collection of bobbin holders, it's sad really because I thought I was bad for collecting, I have a collection of vintage fly reels that I never use. I bet you only use maybe three

Man I love tying! This is an interesting video. I have a nice collection of bobbers. I'd like to get a few of these.
Wow, a Steam Punk bobbin! You do have a collection!
Nice overview, should add the Norvise Bobbin, beautiful tool.
Great video man thank you!
Thanks for sharing your collection - I'm still searching for the one I like the best too.

Long loose thread as far in as you can stick it, then suck it through. As fast as it gets, and you never loose it.

Just bend one of the cheap ones, and if it works, you have the bends, you have to make on a high end one, if you choose to upgrade.
