    Hit the nail on the head. Even in the LNs, the short stories often have a different tone and either deal with much more light hearted or comedic situations and perspectives, or much harsher ones.

    In the Light Novel, the main story is in Myne's perspective, and then side stories from different perspectives are inserted at the end of the volume. The OVA is based on some of these side stories.

    The clothes Justus and Eckhard were wearing at the start of the episode is what Justus thought commoners wear. He based it on how merchants dress like when visiting the noble's quarter.
    Also, the book Justus found had it's first page removed, where one would usually indicate their ownership.
    It has absolute no relevance to the story but we actually know who the book belonged to.
    The book belonged to Heidemarie, Eckhard's dead wife. Her father remarried and her stepmother started pawning off all of their possessions. Heidemarie protested hard and gave the remaining books to Ferdinand, her lord. This has nothing to do with her death, but shows perfectly how noble factions harrass eachother even within the same family.

      @alsinakiria 12 дней назад +5

      I love how Justus thought that those clothes were normal for commoners when, in reality, it's super formal wear.

  • @daedalron

    8:35 It's not shown in the anime, but yes, they used magic to get in. The guild is so fancy that they use magic lock, something no commoner would have any chance of bypassing. But Justus is a scholar who knows how those magic locks works, so for nobles it is extremely easy to bypass.
    9:30 It was 3 small golds, not large golds. Still a fortune for a market-merchant, even though it was certainly not enough compared to the real price of the book, but no one else would have bought it, so...

    • @Rangar1997
      @Rangar1997 12 дней назад +3

      Yeah, in the LN, Justus is able to deduce that the lock in the guild is just a simple authentication sigil, something any lay-noble scholar could craft. Simply registering with it is enough to gain access, but for commoners, it may as well have been in impenetrable wall since they lack mana.

    I watched the first two seasons before I read the LNs so I thought Eckhart was just being a prissy noble when he couldn't handle the smell downtown. It turns out that the commoner areas are just actually supposed to be really disgusting in the LN. In the anime there's not much detail in the environments so when Myne walks around with Lutz or Benno, the streets just look uniformly clean and unremarkable. But in the LN, they're pretty much described like what medieval streets would have been like -- garbage and human waste are just dumped out on the streets and the stench is truly revolting. They have no sewer system and no real concept of hygiene.
    The nobles (via magic) are much closer to our standards of hygiene and cleanliness than the commoners.

    • @Rangar1997
      @Rangar1997 12 дней назад +4

      yeah, you'd think someone would come up with the idea for a sewer system . . .

      @@Rangar1997 I'm really looking forward to WiT Studio's production. Maybe they'll finally be able to reflect the rich, incredibly detailed world-building of the LNs. Especially since there's still time to put in the detail that the existing anime unable was unable to portray, so that the payoffs actually make sense down the line (like the sewer system lol).

    @6:25 Fey's reaction to being afraid of Myne really is justified. The anime only shows Myne's eyes changing and a aura of mana forming around her, but in an unincluded short story, we find out that Myne was actually using the crushing on the boys that destroyed her clay tablets. Had their perspective been included and really flushed, it would have made the incident in the temple with the High Bishop not feel as though it came out of left field as much.

    Yea, Bookworm is an absolute juggernaut when it comes to worldbuilding. a good portion of each LN is straight up dedicated to worldbuilding through side character POVs. We usually get at least 4 chapters dedicated to other characters each volume that always leaves the reader wanting to learn more. The major reason why the series appears so light-hearted is because most of the information we learn are things Myne has learned about and interpreted.
    So, how each volume in the ln progresses: We usually start off with a prologue chapter from a side character referencing a major past event or partaking in/preparing for another event; several chapters from Myne's perspective; an epilogue chapter from a side character's perspective, then typically 2 side stories following other side characters' POVs of events that took place, or of them doing something that Myne has heard about in the volume. Its a pretty cool clash of our common sense through Myne's POV, and this other world's common sense through side character POVs and prologues and epilogues.
    Justus and Echarkt are honestly pretty damn interesting characters to learn more about, it's pretty cool that the anime decided to adapt this side story. Iirc, this SS doesn't show up in the LN until one of the early Part 3 volumes.

    Ah good, I was wondering when you'd be catching up. Not a bad time to be watching this one, which serves as a reminder of the social and economic disparity. I too watched it late, and couldn't agree more that the goofiness of it works better as an off-season OVA. But I really like how it shows that, just as Main stands out in the world of nobles, so do the nobles stand out in the lower city. Even in one city, what is considered "normal" by different people can vary quite a bit, and you making light of those differences can actually put you in danger, as the spies discovered.
    I can't recall how silly it comes off in the light novels, but it's worth mentioning that the books are written from first-person perspective. So the side stories, which are found at the end of some tomes, are an opportunity to get a lot at the world from someone else's perspective.

  • @ShadowGingerdapple

    The bulk of the novel is in first person and is completely centered on mine’s point of view. Her assumptions, her views and her understanding of the world is front and center however, at the end of each volume there are side stories that are from other characters point of view Where you can see where mine’s point of view differs from the other people in the story you get hints of the parts that she is missing out on because she is either not interested or is not picking up on the subtle cues of things going on that is not immediately apparent to her There are bits and pieces of the anime that pulls from the side stories as some information is important for the audience to pick up on things that mine does not. I think it is a great way of telling a fixed story while also letting the audience see a little behind the curtain of the main charactersfaulty narration

    Not sure but i think it was 3 small gold for the Book. Regarding thee Corina invitation I think it's also ue to her being somewhat of a "Star" Or highly regarded person, which is why Effa don't want to show thee clothing since she believe it isn't of high enough standard to show her.

    Los POV como dicen son una valiosa interpretación para conocer la realidad y entender como está creado las costumbres y sentido común de este mundo, entendemos donde Myne falla y aprendemos bastante, por eso amo tanto esta obra, y mejor su novela, nos sumerge a un mundo totalmente nuevo de manera gradual y ascendente.

      The Side Story covering the book and lower city investigation is actually a short story from part 3 vol 2 of the LNs. Chronologically, it fits in right after ep 14 of the anime, but in the LNs this was when Eckhart and Justus started becoming more important characters to the story. From here, we're going into spoiler territory . . . (YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED)

      The book, as stated earlier was a book on magic. On the inside of the back cover was a dedication page to indicate what noble house the book was commissioned for, back as shown, the page was removed to hide the identity of the owner. In reality, the book was once the property of Eckhart's (yes, this same Eckhart in the episode) late wife, Heidemarie. Both she and Eckhart were fervent supports of Ferdinand, the High Priest, while serving him in the Royal Academy, and married soon after graduating. This is when things started taking a turn for the worse, as Heidemarie's family was being taken over from the inside by her father's second wife, who's a member of the Veronica Faction; selling off many of the possessions of the first wife's line, the book being included. Soon after becoming pregnant, Heidemarie was poisoned and both she and her baby died, putting Eckhart into a state of depression. He sought to end his life while taking Veronica down, blaming her for the death of his wife and unborn child; however, Ferdinand ordered him to live by way of using his name-sworn master's decree. A brief explanation: name-swearing is when one noble offers up their very name in a sacred act of total obedience to another noble lord or lady. I'll spare a lot of the nuances that comes with it, but the act essentially places the life of the one offering into the hands of another, having to obey any order without question, else having to endure pain until compliance. Ferdinand ordered Eckhart to live for his wife and continue to be of service to him. Heidemarie, like Rozemyne, was a fond lover of books, so it is tragic the two never were able to meet.

    • @Rangar1997
      @Rangar1997 11 дней назад +1

      @@GuysCupank I think WiT will be trying to gauge response before committing, the biggest hurdle to their decision will be the LN readers. Every one of them is really invested in parts 4 and 5 and the expectations will be monumental to say the least. Committing to making it will not be a small task either, as part 4 is double the length of part 3 alone, and part 5 is even longer and more detailed. If WiT plans to follow through, they'd be committing to no less than 5 more seasons of anime afterwards, most likely more. Furthermore, despite the main story being "finished," the story is actually still ongoing in a direct spin-off series following one of the major side characters immediately following the conclusion of the main story. It's a lot to commit to, even for a major studio.

    My impression from the light novel wasn't that Justus was incompetent but because of Mynes circumstances all his ways of inquiring either had no result or came of as weird because people either have no idea who she is, haven't heard of the myne workshop as she exclusively deals with Benno or by using his companies name. Benno also put a lot of effort of keeping information about her hidden. And trying to ask about myne because she helped him would make sense but she literally is to weak to help and never alone.
    It could be I'm misremembering it or misread the subtext but he didn't come of nearly as clueless. More that he lacked basic information to properly make inquiries without comming of as suspicious.

    • @Rangar1997
      @Rangar1997 11 дней назад

      Your impression is spot on; there's just a vast difference between the Noble world, Upper city, and Lower city; and Justus was simply ill equipped for the situation and lacked critical need-to-know information to really be successful. His fact finding mission was intended to fill in those gaps, but there was no way to know the extents to which Benno had gone to limit information regarding Myne, her workshop, and even her day-to-day life; which is why any time he probed into her workshop, he immediately tipped his hat as being suspicious since all of Myne's goods are basically funneled through other stores as a front. Myne is simply the most guarded secret in the commoner's side of the city; and in truth, he did learn a ton of information, even with all his mistakes.

    This could be a sight spoiler, but the idea doesn't go anywhere.
    At the current point in the story the Head Prince is already planning Myne's wedding. He wants to secure her a household that will treat her properly and not like a brude mare. The current top contender is actually Green hair; Eckhart. His family is known to be nice to commoners, especially his mother. She'll even scold her sons if they make unreasonable demands of their staff. So no "evil mother in law" problems. His wife died and he's desperately trying to avoid getting remarried. They were actually in love, rare for nobles. Myne living with him is mutually beneficial for the both of them. He fends off perverts that want her to "offer flowers" and he gets his family off his back about getting married again. Justus is thought to be a bit too old. There's only a 10 year age difference for Myne and Eckhart. Not big by noble standards. With Justus it's closer to 20 or 30. A young widdow would be way to vulnerable to exploitation. Better to be closer to the same age.

      Justus was supposed to be someone else's retainer originally, but when he changed his educational focus, it was seen as a betrayal to some very powerful people. He ended up serving the High Priest when he exhibited the greatest competence in using the information he gathered well. Justus has an irresistible urge for gathering or probing into new things he wouldn't normally see in his daily life as a noble, it's why he was so excited about his investigation into the lower city, and the reason why he was poking around things downtown at the end, which fortuitously made him cross paths with Heidemarie's book.

    Please note that Myne and Lutz are from guild families in middle management. Justice made a convincing farmer, but class bases the below guild members as much as myne and Lutz families are below merchants like Beeno or upper management of the guild like Corina. By Corina is in the same guild as Effa and Tuuli, which is why visiting her was such a big deal
