I mean sure you technically do have to stop a bit on your first playthrough but you can get right back into goin fast or choose to more thoroughly explore or go for another route on the larger levels, but it's just an option you have and an enticing one because of the straightforward, fun movement of those games. Meanwhile Literally every 3d Mario game since 64 is THE definition of fluid constant movement in platforming especially when compared with 3D Sonic which has consistently been a slog with terrible level design and yes I'm including both Sonic Adventure games and 07.

It's because speed is supposed to be a reward, not something that's just automatically given to you at the start, if you know what you're doing, you can certainly go fast.

Honestly, all the characters after Knuckles need to be gone. Permanently. Tails and Knuckles should only need their abilities for secret areas and stuff, and all the regular parts of a level should be trying to stay fast like PBG said

Instead of Tails and Rouge being copies, now Rouge and Knuckles are copies, Eggman and Tails are copies, and Shadow ans Sonic are still copies but at least with them that's the point. Also they all still run fast. The only reason you don't see the same amount of repetition is that Sonic Adventure 2 only has two teams of people, instead of four. I'm saying that each character should be vastly different from each other. Or at the very least a start would be to differentiate their speeds in the games.
Half the review is trying to make logical sense of a fast blue hedgehog, that's arch nemesis is a fat Doctor who places animals into robots as an army to destroy civilization so that he can build his own, known as EGGMANLAND. Still a great video :)

This was the last Sonic game I played, back when I was 16. 18 years later and I STILL play it whenever I can with my son. He's 6 years old now and if it wasn't for him, I would've forgotten I had my old PS2 in my attic, let alone this game.

Anyone else think Peebz was a little too harsh on this one? Even when he said the variety of levels was pretty good he glossed over that and went straight for criticizing the logic. Also the music in this game was amazing.
Agreed, this is my favourite Sonic game. I wish people weren't so harsh about it. I really like PBG, but I wish he had at leat one nice thing to say about it, like the OST.
Sonic Heroes was actually part of my childhood. But looking back on it, even though it may be a somewhat stupid game, it holds a sort of special place in my heart, probably because I enjoyed it as a kid. Great job reviewing this game!
I agree. My friend is a huge Sonic fan, so I've seen him play the entirety of Mega Collection, and he's 100% 1-3, Sonic and Knuckles, and 3D Blast. Each game was filled with constant interruptions or punishments for going too fast (unless you knew the game well, which still didn't stop my mate from getting hit sometimes). Sonic Generations is hands down the ideal Sonic for me.
This is actually what I had trouble with when playing the originals. As someone who didn't play them when I was like 9 or 10, I kept running into things I could've avoided if I could see farther in front of me. I find that dumb.
That was part of the point, though. The idea was to try and play through the level as fast as possible while gathering as many rings as possible. They had obstacles, but it was so you could play through again and try to avoid them. An enemy in your way? Jump over it at the right time. It doesn't impede your path. A door in your way where you have to solve a puzzle in order to get by it? Not so much.
Super Meat boy and Super Mario Brothers 2/Lost levels are easily the fastest paced platform games ever, and you play as fat hunks of flesh in both of them.

The talking part is legit good criticism of treating the players as idiots. But having warning lights on grinding is obvious hint to not get shot by lasers. Otherwise you'd have no idea how to avoid it XD

Honestly, all the characters after Knuckles need to be gone. Permanently. Tails and Knuckles should only need their abilities for secret areas and stuff, and all the regular parts of a level should be trying to stay fast like PBG said

***** No, not really. Instead of Tails and Rouge being copies, now Rouge and Knuckles are copies, Eggman and Tails are copies, and Shadow ans Sonic are still copies but at least with them that's the point. Also they all still run fast.
The only reason you don't see the same amount of repetition is that Sonic Adventure 2 only has two teams of people, instead of four.
I'm saying that each character should be vastly different from each other. Or at the very least a start would be to differentiate their speeds in the games.

This was the last Sonic game I played, back when I was 16. 18 years later and I STILL play it whenever I can with my son. He's 6 years old now and if it wasn't for him, I would've forgotten I had my old PS2 in my attic, let alone this game.

Anyone else think Peebz was a little too harsh on this one? Even when he said the variety of levels was pretty good he glossed over that and went straight for criticizing the logic. Also the music in this game was amazing.
Agreed, this is my favourite Sonic game. I wish people weren't so harsh about it. I really like PBG, but I wish he had at leat one nice thing to say about it, like the OST.

Sonic Heroes was actually part of my childhood. But looking back on it, even though it may be a somewhat stupid game, it holds a sort of special place in my heart, probably because I enjoyed it as a kid. Great job reviewing this game!

I agree. My friend is a huge Sonic fan, so I've seen him play the entirety of Mega Collection, and he's 100% 1-3, Sonic and Knuckles, and 3D Blast. Each game was filled with constant interruptions or punishments for going too fast (unless you knew the game well, which still didn't stop my mate from getting hit sometimes). Sonic Generations is hands down the ideal Sonic for me.
This is actually what I had trouble with when playing the originals. As someone who didn't play them when I was like 9 or 10, I kept running into things I could've avoided if I could see farther in front of me. I find that dumb.
That was part of the point, though. The idea was to try and play through the level as fast as possible while gathering as many rings as possible. They had obstacles, but it was so you could play through again and try to avoid them. An enemy in your way? Jump over it at the right time. It doesn't impede your path. A door in your way where you have to solve a puzzle in order to get by it? Not so much.
Nastrum So instead of Sonic testing reflexes, it tests stage memorization? smh

The talking part is legit good criticism of treating the players as idiots. But having warning lights on grinding is obvious hint to not get shot by lasers. Otherwise you'd have no idea how to avoid it XD
