When I first got my 2 year old French Bulldog, he was coming from a breeder with 12 dogs and was used to always having them there, he was never alone. He had pretty bad separation anxiety for a while, but is finally getting better being left alone 9 months later. He still will sometimes scratch at the door or bark, but it is a huge improvement. My trick was gradually leaving him longer and longer and also giving him a special treat as I am leaving so he associates me leaving with a good thing. Things really turned around when I started leaving a lick mat for him with peanut butter and treats. He now will enjoy his treat and then sleep in his bed most of the day. (I know because I bought a camera to spy on him 😁)
