After Argentina made it to the World Cup final for the second time in 3 editions, there have been shouts that the 2022 World Cup might be rigged to favor the South American nation. Some say it was rigged to give Messi the perfect end to his international career.
Of course, this was not the popular opinion after Argentina lost the opening game of the tournament to underdogs, Saudi Arabia. But as the team got stronger and started carefully scaling their hurdles, the talks of the entire tournament being rigged started to become rampant.
Now, it’s easy to dismiss these people as mere conspiracy theorists and Messi haters, but do they actually have a point? Come along and check out the points they have made and decide for yourself.

I have been watching football since I was 5. This world cup was all in Argentina's favour. And Fifa totally helped messi to dribble past 4 defenders.

I think the most blatant case against Argentina is versus the Netherlands ; no red card for kicking the ball towards the players bench was just ridiculous. It is a red card by itself, you do not even need the dirty tackle before it.
The most obvious case was against the Netherlands almost all yellow cards towards arg and a red for that kick.

The first 80 minutes of the final game were bought by Argentina. Then, in the last 10 minutes, the match was bought by France. But Argentina bought it again until minute 115. Finaly, France bought the match in the last 5 minutes of the extended time. In the end, Argentina bought the penalty shootout.

It was rigged. It also highlights a huge weakness in the sport and that is the awarding of penalty kicks. Every sport has inherent weaknesses and that is a BIG one.
Penalties have been a big weakness for years, Real Madrid won the 3peat on penalties pretty much and some bitched but most didn't care. Pens have been soft as shit for over a decade now mate, only now its suddenly rigged? Its been like this for ages man but I agree.

Upamecano touched the ball with his hand prior to Montiel. So, the second penalty for France could have been disallowed by the VAR had FIFA wanted it.
Di Maria literally dived and fell to the ground before any contact was even made. The penalty should have been disallowed. As well as the vast majority countless penalties they had.

Totally love how so many will say that Argentina was given favors in the world cup and completely ignore that France's first penalty was on a dive and the second, a French player handled the ball just before it landed outside the box and shot right back into an Argentinian players arm, technically was ball to hand and not hand to ball. Even though that could have been a 50/50 call, what would have completely nullified it is if VAR did it's job (and it could not have missed what dozens of other camera's caught) and informed the ref that the French player in the box handled the ball 1s before. That would have called back the play and no second penalty to France.
The last thing that really amuses me is that in the final minute of play Kolo had an opportunity to end it for France when he was 1 on 1 with Martinez, but that big goofball goalie out stretched his legs so far he blocked that final attempt. Had Kolo scored, it's Frances game.
Both French penalties brought them back into the game, a game they were horribly outplayed for 80 minutes in.
If there wasn't a majority of Messi haters in here, people would be saying that the game was rigged to keep France in the game and hopefully help them win it.

- Kicking a ball in to the bench isn’t a red card, it’s a yellow card offense at best and very rarely does it end up in red cards
- messi’s handball in the game vs the netherlands isn’t a yellow card, bc Messi did not prevent a goal or promising attack, as it was a handball in the middle of the pitch with the rest of his team behind him on their own half, and no promising attack or shot on goal was in motion!
- the penalty vs poland was a penalty, bc even though the ball was already gone, remember lloris hit danilo and portugal got a penalty in the group stage of the euros! If that is a penalty for excessive force used, then so is the one vs messi! Which also raises the question, should neuer have gotten red in 2014? A german ref back then believed so!
In any case, the foul by lloris set a precedent for keepers using excessive force.

Alvarez did not run into the keeper as some people try to claim, as the keeper stretched out his body wau to fast and too close to alvarez, for it to be reasonable to expect alvarez to move out of the way!
Keepers missing the ball and catching a player also usually always end up in penalties. So once again there is precedent
