I have an Acemo 1kw/1kwh power station. I did not have the connectors for solar at the time Helene came through, but I do have an Inverter Generator. What I did was power my apartment on the Power station. When the battery was low, I moved my plugs from the power station to the generator and plugged the Acemo into the generator to charge. It only took about an hour to recharge the power station and I went back to it. Overall, it took about 2 gallons of gas to keep power on for 3 days.
Now, I have solar panels ;)
I like having both. I'm getting the parts together to build a second power station with a 1kw battery. That one will be for my radios. I'll plan to use the Acemo for AC systems in event of a power failure, and since I will have both, I hope to utilize them instead of the grid where I can. They will never pay for themselves in saved electric bill around here, but I'm glad I had them during the power outage.
Also, I feel better if I have a backup to the power station.
For the home, I have 3 100w panels and for the field, I have a 160w Dokio portable, two 30w portables, and a 10 watt portable that has 4A batteries in it for QRP. The DC power station I build will also be portable. My Acemo is heavy.
