Scotty Kilmer Hello I’m one of your followers I really like the way how you explain everything. So my question is I have plan to buy one of those three cars ( Mercedes E350 4matic 2006-2009.or BMW X6 X7 new. Or the Mercedes GLS 2019 new ) I will really love to hear your opinion about those three cars with all the respect ✊ thank you and I will be waiting for your Answer SIR🙋🏼♂️

Remember, it’s all fun and games until something goes wrong and then and only then, will someone be specific and take care about what they said or didn’t say.
There’s no telling about how much bad advice has ruined equipment, and/or caused injuries……. Be serious about serious things, nothing gets ruined and no one gets hurt or killed, and you don’t need lawyers already paid and on retainer…..

This morning my neighbors BMW X5 had a really bad squeaking sound coming from the front right suspension. I started spraying one thing at a time with WD-40 and moving it up and down by the fender. I started from the bottom at the control arms and bushings and worked up. I finally sprayed the top of the strut tower and viola, no more squeaking. Everything looks good as far as I can see, just have to see if it comes back. WD-40 works like a charm as a diagnostic tool. Thanks for all the info Scotty. I really like your channel.
My dad is 70 and swears by wd40, every morning he sprays a bit in his morning coffee to keep his joints loose
What !!!!!!???? Lol.... U crazy ! Lol...

Thats a joke lol
Don't know if it was a placebo, but I had a slightly twisted knee once... So I decided to spray wd40 on my knee and by magic a few seconds later the pain disappeared.. True story
Scotty-as a guy who’s car stupid and grew up with no one to teach me anything, I’ve always been at the mercy of mechanics. I feel like you’re giving me an edge. Love your content and have been binge watching since I found you.
Will do
But he's not actually a mechanic thought...
Same boat!
Thank you Scotty!! Your video saved me almost $1,300 at a local tire shop. There was a squeaky noise coming from the steering wheel when turning the wheel all the way to the right or to the left. I sprayed WD-40 on the strut mount bushings and the noise went away. A super easy fix!
I have no car since two years, but I can't stop watching Scotty videos, you can learn a lot and laugh a lot too.

And think of how smart you'll be when you get back on the road (hint: you will ! )
Man, are you saving yourself money and time and the headache cars, especially modern cars, often give oneself.
Thanks Scotty love your videos you’ve helped me so much never been a mechanic don’t know much about cars but you have help me I spent over $1,900in repairs on my 2007 Ford Taurus I paid 600$ for and I started watching your videos and learning a lot it helps me diagnose the problem so the auto shop doesn’t rip me off anymore! I’ve had 3 of your videos help me out with small fixes that the shop was telling me was not gonna be worth doing to the car because of the year of the vehicle telling me $2000 for a cleaning of my valves and some type of flushing and watch some of your videos and solved the problem for $160! Every car shop I go to because I don’t know a lot about cars they try to rip me off thanks for your videos please keep making them
I have the opposite problem! The shops don't tell me what needs to be changed in my car, and when they do, I assume they are trying to rip me off. I then end up driving in an unsafe car that breaks, when doing the simple repair the shop suggested would have saved my vehicle and maybe my life.
Sounds like a u problem bro lol. Maybe u should fix ur car and take it to multiple places for an opinion then go with the one that charges the cheapest or google is your best friend find out how much things like this cost so ur not paying to much. Not sure where ur at but there is normally mechanics that rip ppl off or there is mechanics that do a good amount of work and charge ok
Don't drink coffee...Just watch Scotty. You can't help but smile and get in a better mood.
True True. Me too :)
Scotty, Great video again but I saw something that made me cringe; petroleum-based lubricants (like WD-40) eat away the rubber, causing the rubber to weaken and fail sooner than normal. Better to use a Teflon or Silicone base lubricants on rubber and other flexible seals.
Agree with ya 99.9999% but some, not all, silicone products will also eat away at the rubber. I've had it happen, but also my fault for not fully reading the label. Lol.
NO worries--WD40 is NOT petroleum--it's a form of fish oil.
That's what he said.

Had a squeaky door hinge. Sprayed with WD40 Silicone spray. Noise went away for about a week. Tried regular WD. Noise went away for about a month. Rubbed a little synthetic motor oil on the section that was rubbing 6 months ago. No squeaks.
The synthetic motor oil is clearly a better product for that application.

Scotty, you have gotten much larger on RUclips and that’s awesome. Back when you just started live-streaming, I mentioned how you reminded me of my late father. Come to find out, you would both be the exact same age.

I spray WD-40 on the bumpers, front section of the hood, and side mirror housing when doing an overnight long drive. It makes it so easy to remove the accumulated dead bugs in front of the car.
Scotty, I have been using WD-40 for a long time now. My late parents used it for their car parts a long time ago. I'm very thankful for them introducing me to to WD-40.🚖
I had a squeaky front strut bearing on a 12 year old car and wd40 worked but it took about a third of a can just on one strut . Your right I had reapply it to the strut every 4 or 5 months but still a good way to Macgyver a fix on an old car .
Good video ! i Love Wd-40 ! i Have been using it since 1979 or earlier. its awesome to keep stuff from rusting. i used it on Kawasaki Jet skis at a dealership i worked at as a young mechanic. It was a God send to taking Saltwater jetskis apart. i used to Spray the Entire Boat Down from Bow to stern inside & outside. No Salt deposits ever ! Engines come apart easy ! i would use Gallons of the stuff. spray entire engines down. Wonderful stuff ! after 10 years of spraying down the same ski , metal was impregnated with Wd-40. Not one sign of Rust ever on a Salt water jet ski. One thing though , Do NOT spray at a Greasy area that is supposed to keep grease there. it WILL Wash away & dissolve grease from Ball joints. Do NOT SPRAY Directly into a Ball Joint, it could ruin it. Its Great For Doors in your House that squeak , spray on squeaky hinges , Front door where u put the Key in. Works Wonderfully ! Door Hinges in car doors, Spray in Key hole in door. Works awesome. a few blasts in door key hole ,put key in and out , a few more blasts , and key goes in & out like a dream. Enjoy !
Better use gloves. The solvent in this stuff might pass thru your skin.

WD-40 is NOT a long term lubricant, but as Scotty said its very useful for diagnosis.
It actually melted grease off our old screw driven garage opener when we thought is was lubricating it. It can act like a solvent if you're not careful.
It is a mixture of light mineral oil and vaseline in Stoddard solvent.
Seafoam deep creep is the best lubricant I've used, or WD's silicone spray
Dcc357 I’ve actually used it as a solvent for cleaning knives, one had a very think cosmoline type grease that was all dried up, shot of wd40 pulled it right out
@@Dcc357 Sticky locks also become degreased with wd40. The tumblers become lubricated temporarily but need constant re application.
my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokees alarm kept going off, it was annoying, sometimes in the middle of the night. My neighbors were understandably pissed. Went to the jeep forum and they said sometimes certain the door latch gets wet or dusty and smart cars believe they are getting broken into thus setting the alarm. Recommendation was to spray some WD-40 and close and open car several times...and voila! Alarm problem was fixed.
my brakes were all squeaky so I sprayed them all with WD40... now the noise is gone! thx scotty!
Don't spray WD-40 on bearings and grease points, that thing will dissolve and clear away the grease. It's not a great lubricant either, it'll evaporate fairly quickly. I use it to clean the chain, crank and cassette of my road bike to then lubricate it again using the appropriate oil, and also to clean wheel bearings when I'm rebuilding them.
It's not a lubricant at all. Is not designed to be a lubricant is not sold as a lubricant, it actually attracts and collects dirt.
It is just for water displacement.
@@oz_medias indeed. What I've meant was that I used it as a degreaser and then apply the adequate oil.
Im glad others understand this as well

I had a Troybilt riding lawnmower that would get so it steered hard and squeaked when you turned the steering wheel. It didn't have grease fittings, so I sprayed it with WD 40 and it cured both problems. Years ago i had a house that had the old wooden sash windows. They opened real hard until I sprayed them with WD 40. Great stuff!
Interesting. I'm pretty sure years ago WD-40 used butane for propellant. I knew mechanics that used it as starting fluid for diesels and malfunctioning outboards. Your demo explains why I couldn't get a small engine to even cough the last time I tried to use WD-40 to give it a kick.

For electrical items better use Contact Cleaner which doesn't leave a sheen of oil. WD-40 is also acting as a lubricant so it'll leave some oil behind which would reduce the insulation between electrical parts.
I took his advice and put a can of WD-40 in my glove box. It diagnosed the squeaky air blower below it one summer.
Just seen a dude on here that says he fills all the panel gaps, tower struts ,inner door panels ,inner chassis with castor oil one time every 3 years on a old 1996 Camry it’s showroom condition 👍 I’m giving it a go
I used to spend 2.5 seconds opening my beer. After spraying the pop top with WD40 I can open it in 1 second flat! 😁 And, it actually improves the taste of Schlitz!
That's guts, with gusto!
Sadly, Schlitz used to be great beer, but no longer. Like Pabst used to be great beer, but not now. Guess someone bought them out an started making it cheap and coasting on the old rep to line their pockets.
WD-40 is good for door hinges and also hood, trunk and rear hatch hinges. If you spray the hinges periodically it prevents them from squeaking when you open and close the door and it prevents the hinges from wearing out prematurely to where the door can become loose and not close correctly. Also, periodically spray it into door locks and the ignition switch to keep them from wearing out or sticking.
While better than nothing for hinges, WD-40 is actually notoriously bad lubricant in long term. It initially lubricates indeed, but it soon dries up into rather non-lubricating gunk. It is not that much an issue in hinges and other parts that are not anyhow prone to sticking, but in lock cylinders for example, where small parts should be able to move by relatively weak spring forces, or in spring-loaded electrical contacts, WD-40 usually causes more problems than it solves.
Its intended usage is to repel moisture and initially lubricate to unstick stuck parts, where it works well with its good penetrating properties. It also makes good corrosion protection, and is alright in installations not moving in normal operation, such as bolts and nuts, and screw or crimp electrical joints.
But in mechanisms moving in normal operation, you need a better lubricant. Multi-purpose oils, silicon oils, greases, and purpose-specific lubricants are the proper choices, depending on purpose.
Scotty has to be the most knowledgeable mechanic in the world. The stuff he knows is beyond comparison. The world will really lose when Scotty says good-bye some day.

I've used WD-40 to remove sticky residue from bumper stickers, and peeled off labels. Works great.
Wd40 is just as great as everyone seems to make it. My dad, grandad, and according to his dad all called it mechanics gold. Havent been working on cars long but can confirm, Wd40 is useful at almost every situation.

This is exactly the thing I needed to know right now. I knew I had to do this but I had no idea what to use and how to use it to find those vacuum leaks.
That's amazing. I've been searching for a mystery vacuum leak for a long time. I can't wait to try this! Scotty, thanks again!
Try soap+ water sprayer first. That wd 40 is messy as crap.
@@daviddowns5691 Soap is acidic though. Nothing crazy, but still, on the flip side wd40 actually has anti-corrosion additives.
I was watching one of your videos yesterday and saw you tapping on the dash to get the heater fan to start working for a little while longer. Anyways, today when I started my car, the dash lights were off and wouldn't come on. So, I drove to work and got the job done and on my way home it was eerie driving with no gauges. For some reason I remembered you smacking the dash, and I thought what the hell, it's worth a try. I lightly tapped at first and they flickered. I tapped again and the right side came on. Then started tapping the left side and it came on, but then the right side went out again. I continued tapping until they were back on again. Anyways, thanks for the idea 😊
One of the best uses for WD 40 I have found is cleaning stainless steel . Great on ovens, fridges and coffee machines and it doesn't smell if you wipe it off well .
OK- I had to research this because back in the 80's WD-40 was definitely flammable. I know this because when I was in college we used to torch the roaches in our apartment with WD-40 in ceremonial fashion, and it used to come out like a flame thrower. After researching a bit, I discovered they did change the propellant from liquified petroleum gas to CO2 to reduce flammability. Great channel Scotty - I know little (if anything) about cars, I'm just here for the entertainment value!
@2:01 Scotty finally found the G-spot on his Celica.
Love watching these videos!!! Not only does Scotty know a lot about his subject but he is totally entertaining. Love the little pictures he throws in too. hahaha!
WD40 is highly flammable without the straw inserted into the nozzle. As a kid I used to use a lighter and make a blow torch with it. I assume it’s because it’s more of a liquid with the straw in it as opposed to an aerosol without the straw.
I once sprayed it into the motor of my pos phantom vacuum. Well, wouldn't you know.... The exhaust of my phantom looked like the flaming exhaust of the bat mobile. I recall the flame shooting out the back was about 4 feet long. I think Scotty better take that statement back or clarify before someone gets hurt
Probably more aerosol, but also in the old days WD-40 used propane as a propellant in the cans. That was a lot more flammable than today's mix.
Sylvan Butler n
Without the straw it'll light up. Atomization
Clifton Greene is that what you inferred from that? Don’t be stupid. Two different solutions with different flash points. You can’t logically compare the two.
trick you can use on the small cans , when there empty just connect the straw to the empty can nd get another big full can and connect that to the small can , invert both cans press both nozzles and after 30 seconds the small can will be full again :)
Yessir! Rocket Chemical of San Diego got their water dispersant right on the 40th try. The salt air in the coastal area was a great testing ground. The aerospace industry jumped on the stuff and it proved its worth over time. When I was an Assistant Manager at a tool and implement store I always asked the new hires ( youngsters ) if the knew what WD-40 stood for. Ten percent got it right. They got the gold stars.

The stream won't catch fire, however if you have the wide spray (like an aerosol can) version of WD-40 it is EXTREMELY flammable...

Yea it definitely burns, just it's not that sensitive, especially with the basic delivery.
An internal combustion engine with a clogged carburetor or fuel system will run off WD 40 alone, if it is atomized, so yes, it IS flammable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, and it made me cringe when he sprayed it onto the lighter and splattered himself in the process; it vaporizes almost instantly as it's soaking into cotton. His clothes could have become a giant wick .

I just lubricated the parts in both of my vehicles; SUV and Honda Accord, as shown in your educational video scotty, thank you very much for the tip:
Good to know that WD40 is not very flammable at all. Now I know I can use it around the engine without starting a fire. Good info. Thanks.
it's water DISPLACEMENT, not dispersement compound and it's NOT a lubricant. Which is why they came out with TAL 5, which, unfortunately didn't get traction--patient of mine gave me two cans and educated me on WD 40 and he confirmed it wasn't a lubricant, per se. Still, Scotty does raise some good points. And correct on the rocketry.
Thank you, Scotty! I pin pointed some spots un the suspension and it works great! It probably saved me a few thousand dollars since it’s an Audi :) well maintained though.
WD-40 used to be highly flammable before because it used propane as the propellant, they changed it to CO2 now and so it tends to not let the oil component of the chemical catch fire, but if you aerosol it, it burns really well.
In the college dorm rooms kids would shoot a fireball of WD40 under ones dorm room door as a prank. OR tape up a 9x12 envelope with duct tape and fill it up with shaving cream. Then slide an open end under the door with the closed end taped to the floor. Then they would hit the envelope with a giant book to send the shaving cream around inside the room

Great video, Scotty, but doesn't the oil get everywhere when you're looking for vacuum leaks? Won't that collect dirt? Could over-spray also cause nuts and bolts to come loose? Used sparingly and with the tube, maybe it's fine. Good point about getting it on the fan belt!

Can I use WD 40 on my power steering pump?
I have used for years into boat engines that were sunk. I would take engine off bottom of sea, take plugs or injectors out and spray piston. Crank engine by hand a few times, then flush it out with it and then engine oil. Replace some parts and of it went. Also used it as started fluid for diesels in construction equipment.

I use this on my car. After I wash it, I dry it, than spray small areas and dry it up with those blue shop rags and it actually makes the car look new.
We use WD-40 to wipe down our tubular chassis after track day to prevent rust.
WD-40 also works as a tire oil for storage on racing tires. Prevents the natural oils from evaporating off. 'Need to wrap in plastic wrap to help tho'.
WD-40 is also a hell of a cleaner for greasy parts as well.
I would recommend wd-40 to use and spray inside the key door lock of your car for the 🌬️❄️⛄ winter season or whenever there are freezing🌁 temperatures , your car door lock won't freeze like my Kia Spectra used to do before! 👽

You can use it as a lube.

Hello Scotty. Can I spray WD40 into motorcycle exposed switches, such as turn signal and kill switch? Will it harm the switch? I want to drive out moisture periodically. Thanks!
Nope...It's common for bike owners to use it ...I never have much issue with my switches only the ignition switch so I spray it on the key now and then when the switch gets stuck...It gets really bad to where the Key won't turn fully
@HexagramMan nope...im aware I've used the graphite before but it's not a rule to do so...Even Scotty uses WD in ignition switches...WD is pretty benign...My father use to get the road tar off his 1978 Bandit Trans Am gold paint 😊😘
two things you have to worry about with electronics : conductivity and corrosion. Will the oil eat up the insulation on the electronics? I assume motorcycles have oil resistant insulation, but double check. Conductors always have labels on the insulation with a code for what kind of insulation it is. And will the oil cause a short circuit? Oil isn't conductive, which is why they use it to cool transformers. But I would still do a resistance check to be safe before doing it. Also with wd40, when it evaporates it leaves a residue. This can create gunk that accumulates, which is why if you try to use it as a lubricant in say a clock it will completely ruin it
@HexagramMan ???? "Are lubricated"???? By who exactly??? The factory??? Even if true the bike is 2003 so it's long since gone ..The WD did not clog it up
@@moonasha "oil"??? Who's talking about oil???
When do you use the WD-40 Silicone Lubricant instead of the regular WD-40 on your suspension system? I believe there was another video of Scotty using the Silicone one.
Works like magic on squeaky belts and locks in the winter time.
Best advice for us used car communities who gave up the idea of financing/leasing brand news cars and letting the dealership have you bring in the car every six months for needless servicing
The Tin Man with his oil can is hilarious
guess one of his nuts was squeaking
My new struts made groaning noise , thought it was just break in period, never stopped, sprayed some deep creep into them and BAM no more noise
But yes same with computers or anything really, one step at a time for diagnosing
Scotty! You are a living blessing! Thank for your time & passion for teaching us in dire need!! Thank you! GOD bless you very much!! 🤗🤗💕
Could you please make a video about VVTi start up clatter in Toyota engines? My engine vibrates for a few seconds on the first start up of the day. Is it a problem? Plenty of ppl seem to have problems like that, thx
"My car is making a squeaking noise." "Turn up the radio."
@Coffee Cool lol
Been there.
That is what my grandfather did.
Been there 😂
works for me, rubber bushings on suspension need silicon spray
WD-40 is great stuff. I use on my nooks but my crannies are hermetically sealed. 🤣🤣
I use it on my crooks and grannies
You put it on your Thomas English muffins? 😮🥴😉🤪
@@Lokahi-fo-life Darn you, Lance! You beat me to that joke by one day! ; )
I've always been a pb blaster man myself. Some great ideas in this video.
PB Blaster is the best to loosen stuck or rusted stuff, but it's not a good long term lubricant. WD-40 isn't either. Gunsmith call WD-40 the money maker because it attracts dust and powder residue and leaves them in need of a professional cleaning.
@@johnchandler1687 Yes long term lube is obviously not a liquid but something thicker like grease. Hence the term "penetrating oil" it's to get rusted parts unstuck, not to lubricate anything.
@@Avaddon911 Didn't I just say that in a different way?
WD-40 is awesome, I use it on my ignition on my Volkswagen Golf. My keys are always getting covered in crap from work and that makes the ignition and the key insert and fit flawlessly.
Scotty? I took your advice with W-D 40 then did it all again with? 303..its been a Yr now and its Winter here in Wi. and all my rubber and vynil is still like New.. Thank you..DTM= US Army Veteran-1965'-Disabled now in a WheelChair from ? Playing too Much Golf!( Ave 4x for over 30 yrs !) :-)
Water Displacement, Yep! Just ask ANY old guy that has ever owned a "Slant-6" Dodge. The distributor was mounted way down low on the side of the engine right next to the suspension of the front wheel. EVERY puddle, splash-stop-n-spray! It was great on date night.
Chrysler "engineering".
@@wholeNwon If you think that's boneheaded, have a look at some of Chrysler Corporation's military projects from the WW2 era.
I had a /6 and never had that happen. What did crap out was the bulkhead connector that goes through the firewall. The car would just stop running. Wiggle it and it would fire up again.
@@CarsandCats Are you talking about the ballast resistor? Those were bad too.
Good vibes and respect to you Mr Scotty, your wisdom on cars has me thankful.
7:50 was not expecting that, but hilarious!
Scotty, I got an engine light code P0793, intermediate shaft speed sensor A circuit no signal, on Sienna 2005. I wonder if it's because of dirt or grease causing it. Is there a place I can spray wd40 to try to revive the speed sensor circuit?
I use moisturizer on wipers.
Haven’t bought a windshield wiper for 2 yrs so far
