Shares can broadly be classified as ORDINARY SHARE AND PREFERENCE SHARES
So, when someone says I own shares or stock in a given company, the advantage comes with knowing which kind of shares or stock they are talking about.
A company can and often will issue shares of different classes, conferring different rights in respect of voting, dividends and return of capital in a winding up.
