Many thanks for this video. It was great to see the train heading for Cork via Tuam and Athenry. I look forward to seeing the Tuam route open for traffic again. Keep up the good work! Rob
I loved Claremorris in those days with a proper layout. Westport is one of my favourite places in Ireland. Ballina I first visited in 1988 on the Balligo Divider tour with E428. Luckily I did the line to Tuam and Athenry before closure. The Ballina shuttle was always a haven for Park Royal stock. I remember hitting a flock of sheep once on the branch. Never went in my namesake bar, Sams Bar in Claremorris, as I was too busy with the trains. One has to prioritise. Much love from London, England. Great video.
Hi Vic, Claremorris is my home station and I spent a lot of time watching the comings and goings in my youth. This video was taken by a colleague of mine, and myself and my brother are actually caught on camera as we were there that day observing the specials being prepared for departure. I’m impressed you’re aware of Sam’s bar (Killeen’s). This bar is now my local and owned by relations of mine! Glad you enjoyed this video. All the best, Paul.
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing this. What an incredibly busy scene at Claremorris. And to hear the call for porters! Those were the days!
And that was a quiet day!

Hi Paul,
Yes my mates on the Balligo Divider tour all pulled my leg about us Sams getting everywhere. Even Claremorris. Best regards. Vic
The days when Claremorris still had an interesting track layout
Sure had and sophisticated signalling also.
Brilliant video..... :-)
Was that Johnny O'Meara RIP taking the ETC in 155?
Yes I believe it is!
Magnificent footage. Well done uploader.
S.A means it can work with air braked coaching stock.
on 155, what does the S.A. behind the number stand for?
From memory it’s do with air brakes.
