Valiant only published five issues of WWF Battlemania. They were written by Jim Shooter (the former editor of Marvel Comics, who also started Valiant comics) and art by Steve Ditko (who co-created Spiderman and Dr. Strange). Valiant also published licensed comics based on Nintendo video games like Super Mario. Before they launched their own line of superhero comics and left the licensed comics behind. Another company called Chaos Comics publised a series of WWF based comics during late 1990s with the Undertaker, Mankind, Kane and Steve Austin.
Hell yeah bring on issue 2! Also, I'm sure other have pointed this out but there's some WCW comic books from around that time too, hopefully you can cover those ones too!
That board game utterly ruled. Playing that, next to WWF Hasbro figures and battlemania while watching Survivor Series 1990 was the absolute doggies danglies
Valiant Comics was founded in 1989 by former Marvel editor-in-chief Jim Shooter and published titles like X-O Manowar, Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, Shadow Man, H.A.R.D. Corps, Bloodshot and Magnus: Robot Fighter. Shooter left amidst controversies in 1992, then in 1994 it was purchased by Acclaim Entertainment (yes, that Acclaim Entertainment) and renamed Acclaim Comics until that company’s 2004 bankruptcy. The Acclaim era is easily the brand’s most notable as they adapted video games from several Valiant titles, the most successful being the Turok franchise.
Wait, so am I thinking about "Malibu Comics" then-- about the two brothers taking over the company and the one that oversaw the deals, and money went missing for 4 years and was found in Louisiana on two yachts with hookers doing cocaine? Didn't Jim get muscled out of the company?
This is my favorite wrestling related channel on RUclips. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I'm always amused by the nostalgia your videos bring back. By the way, the Thunder in Paradise videos are some of my favorites on this channel. Entertaining from beginning to end 😂
My cousins had these. If you haven't read it yet, one of the stories is about Big Bossman trying to convince a woman that the Undertaker is trying to kill her & Paul Bearer's all "Naw man, you got it all wrong"
So glad you are doing this ! If you think this is something, check out Marvel's WCW comic series..imagine Micl Foley planting a bomb on a cruise ship..I won't say anymore..😉
Apparently, someone at Valiant was convinced that these licensed WWF comics (alongside some licensed Nintendo comics) would put the then-fledgling company on the map and make them a front runner in the industry. Needless to say, that didn't happen and Valiant only really started making a name for themselves once they ditched the licensed stuff and moved onto superheroes. (For more information about the rise of Valiant as well as a ton of information about the comic book industry during that time period, I'd recommend watching SFDebris' excellent "Rise and Fall of the Comic Empire" series.)
Mate this was AWESOME! I actually have the WHOLE set of these old comics. There’s only 5 issues but if you can find them for cheap nowadays then it’s worth the read. I’m sure their available online for digital copies like the one you did here. The way you read this was hilarious and since you did this first one. Does this mean we can expect a new series of you narrating the old WWF comic book series!?!?
Well, since you asked us.... Give WWF BattleMania #2 a go! Also, you could definitely submit that to Linkara sometime. Reviewing comics is kinda his gig. :3
I was a huge Valiant and wwf fan back then and I've never heard of this before but would have loved it. WWF board game video would be amazing. Be funny if you voiced the comic with eleven labs.
I was a WWF Fan Club member. I got a cassette tape that was supposed to have my " Favorite Superstars' entrance themes". It featured such bangers as the Nasty Boys theme and "The Dragon" theme (Ricky Steamboat b except they never acknowledged that he was Ricky Steamboat).
I still own that Board Game and regularly play it with my boy. It's a pretty basic dice battling game, but the character cards are glorious, and back in the day my brother and I had a blast inventing new rules and match types, like tag team matches and battle royals.
Hell yeah im down for more like this, seeing the merch part of the mag made me remember that one issue of WWF magazine i ended up with as a kid back in 91 (Im British so it felt like a rareity to me even if it wasnt 😂)
My brother and I had a few things that came out of one of the WWF's catalogs. He had one of the the Hulk Hogan teddy bears and one of the Hulk Hogan Wrestling Buddies. We both had a set of the Legion Of Doom shoulder pads, and I had one of the "Rowdy" Roddy Piper t-shirts shown at 15:44.
Funny but true, a future head of Marvel Comics got his start working for Valiant comics, and I believe he worked on one of these WWF comics, but my memory is hazy.
I actually had two issues as a kid. The Mr. Perfect vs Texas Tornado one shown here, and another one with the Nasty Boys fighting the Bushwackers in a fine dining restaurant. (I don’t remember why)
You are doing great man! Pace yourself to avoid burnout, or take a break to do more fun videos like this. History is not going anywhere. :)
Nobody let him see the Ultimate Warrior Christmas comic.
::Skronk::
I still have this comic from when I was a youngster.

Jim Shooter….as opposed to Jim Worker?
Kevin nash had one too.
Choas comics took over after that then boom studios.
Those Undertaker comics I remember being just downright insane.
@DasNordlicht91 they made him look
Like a bonafide badass.
Think it also had clevage showing
Hotties as well.
Considering what happened to Kerry Von Erich, him being depicted with 1 foot has to be a rib LOL.
Definitely is 😂 He messed that foot up in 86..💯
😂
Didn’t they try to keep the fact he didn’t have a foot a secret
@@haileyshannon7548yes, they thought it would kill his whole gimmick.
@@haileyshannon7548 He did yeah. He would wear boots when he showered to hide that he had a prosthetic.
So excited for this! No one talks about these comics. And Steve Ditko did the art on the Sid vs Jake comic!
More please! This is great lol
Hell yeah bring on issue 2! Also, I'm sure other have pointed this out but there's some WCW comic books from around that time too, hopefully you can cover those ones too!
Hell yeah brother!!! Let's do comic books!!! That would be really awesome. I'll be here for those 💯%!!!!
That board game utterly ruled. Playing that, next to WWF Hasbro figures and battlemania while watching Survivor Series 1990 was the absolute doggies danglies
The..the what?! Lol
Never heard of this comic thanks wrestling bios for covering this

I don't blame you on getting burned out by watching matches.
These days, the novelty of wrestling is more fun than most matches and events are.
80s kid here, never knew about these comics!! and that merch was AWESOME!! Going straight to Ebay 😂 THANKS WB!!
I had these comics. Awesome that you're covering them.
I’m shocked that I haven’t heard of these.
I would absolutely love to see an episode for every issue of this comic if you make them.
😄👍
Please do more of these!!! I loved the WWF comics
Yes please to the second issue. Really enjoyed this one.
Two of my fav things ever, WrestleBios and comics
The undertaker’s line in suburban commando is amazing. Can’t wait to see your reaction lol
Heck yea!
"I was FROZEN todaayy!!"
Lmmfao 😂🤣
🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
This is great! You should do the warrior comic series next!
"Curt kicks the bucket.."
I mean... yeah, he did. 😢
All jokes aside, this was a fun idea for an episode!
Last time I was this early, no one was above the law.
That's cuz the Big Boss Man was still around to diss out Hard Times!
You're antiWhite
Yes, more of this please!
Literally right as my dinner is done, you are actually the 🐐
I know, right? I'm usually the same way. Dinner time with Wrestling Bios, can't ask for better weekly entertainment than that.
Do more like this please mate!!!
I did not think I would enjoy this as much as I did
I love when my interests collide on youtube.
This is my favorite wrestling related channel on RUclips. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, I'm always amused by the nostalgia your videos bring back. By the way, the Thunder in Paradise videos are some of my favorites on this channel. Entertaining from beginning to end 😂
Can't wait for wrestling bios to look into wwf/e raw deal. It was an amazing TCG "trading card game"
Bah gawd, that eyepatch man is Phil Ken Sebben! Call Harvey Birdman!
The way you worked the onomatopoetics into the script is truly inspired. Good on ya
I had the full set of these comics but the only one I remember had the Nasty Boys fighting the Bushwhackers in a department store.
My cousins had these. If you haven't read it yet, one of the stories is about Big Bossman trying to convince a woman that the Undertaker is trying to kill her & Paul Bearer's all "Naw man, you got it all wrong"
Dibiase was that stoned, he was tripping out thinking virgil was a ginger guy with an eye patch!
At 13:37, the AVGN would absolutely agree. He did a video about them and said that Tiger games were horrible.
How dare you besmirch the good name of Jack Tunney? Sensei Blackman will hear about this!!!
0:54 Ted Dibiase does his impression of Scrooge McDuck from 'Ducktales'. 😜
2:24 😂😂😂😂"Kerry Von Erich only has one foot" made me choke 🤣 IYKYK...He legit did round this time have 1 foot 🤦🏿♂️🫢🤭
I had the lod foam shoulder pads and the ultimate warrior backpack when I was in 4 grade
Wrestling Bios: "Vit-amins."
Comment section: "That doesn't work for me, brother."
Wrestling Bios: (sighs) "Vi-tamins."
I had this and many of these when I was like 6 years old. I loved them so much and read em all the time. This was so nostalgic!!
So glad you are doing this ! If you think this is something, check out Marvel's WCW comic series..imagine Micl Foley planting a bomb on a cruise ship..I won't say anymore..😉
Mr Nanny and No Holds Barred
I’ll be down for issue 2 👍
Characters with no feet? Was this comic drawn by Rob Liefeld?
(Old comic book joke.)

One of your funniest videos 😂
I had these!!😂
Oh my god I had these comics as a kid and totally forgot about them. Talk about a trip down memory lane!
Definitely read more of these comics! You are my go to guy for the hilarity of our great sport.
Would love to get those LOD shoulder pads
Mate this was AWESOME! I actually have the WHOLE set of these old comics. There’s only 5 issues but if you can find them for cheap nowadays then it’s worth the read. I had the ultimate warrior slippers, wrestling buddy, and his comic back in the day. It was crazy seeing that stuff again.
If you do this again, could you show the writing and pencils/inks/colors credits?
I literally spit my coffee out when Perfect got ‘Fumped’
Well, since you asked us....

I remember some of these there was one with the ultimate warrior and lod teaming up was great, the board game was fantastic as well
This was great! More please!
Goddamn. I'd have been just a few months old when this came out. I'm 33 now!
That was a lot of fun to watch the catalog was the best part keep it coming brother 👍❤️👍
I was a WWF Fan Club member.
I got a cassette tape that was supposed to have my " Favorite Superstars' entrance themes".

23:23 - Ted DiBiase looks like a gremlin with that pose lmao, it's killing me
17:54 Hold on now.. Don't forget we hear Taker speak in the film😎👍
I still own that Board Game and regularly play it with my boy. It's a pretty basic dice battling game, but the character cards are glorious, and back in the day my brother and I had a blast inventing new rules and match types, like tag team matches and battle royals.
I remember this comic, dang.
I would love you to see cover suburban commando or no holds barred one day. Both Classic Wood from the Hood movies!
Is the Hulkster banging Bubba The Love Sponge’s wife considered a Wood From The Hood movie?
the Ginger Giobbers are over with me brother
Loved it, do some more please!
OMG, do the Nash comic! I didn't even know it existed, and know I must learn more!
Nice, 8 mins on the shelf, still hot n fresh Bios!

Please God do more of this. Absolutely top tier wrestlenonsense.
I had some comics with undertaker fighting million dollar man and Virgil
Hell yeah im down for more like this, seeing the merch part of the mag made me remember that one issue of WWF magazine i ended up with as a kid back in 91
(Im British so it felt like a rareity to me even if it wasnt 😂)
I specifically remember buying this on vacation in the upper peninsula of Michigan at my grandparents house
Now I want a cinematic Match between Virgil and Ted Dibiase lol
Ultimate warrior had a comic book 😂😂
This is just one he’s in. He actually authored one, believe it or not. Read about 3 pages of it and you’ll know what LSD is like.
@@zlinedavidpoor Santa😢
I have those. They are a trip! 😂
One word: Destrucity
@@christopherbaker9676 NOBODY RAPES SANTA ON MY WATCH!

It's so strange to see DiBiase literally throw his weight around.
This was a really good episode
That make up kit was made by Paas who are famous for their egg dying kits which they are sold every Easter. I didn’t know they made anything else
The best part about these comics is that Steve Ditko the creator of Spider-Man did a bunch of these issues!
I remember having these as a kid, wish I had kept them they would be worth a few quid today!
Need to release a comic book on the podcasters such as Conrad Thompson, Brian Last, Sean Oliver, Chris Van Vliet, Brian Last, James Romero and others.
Please do more of these
6:28 Ah, typical American defaultism. "All other pronunciations are invalid"
This is exactly what I want Netflix Raw to be like.
ironically WCW had a comicbook line through DC back in 91-92
This comic certainly had its moments.
Yeah, I'd be interested in you covering Nash's comic.
Yes please review issue two I’ve started to like the bushwakers . So I’d like to see there story
Yes look at more of the comics 😁 especially if you enjoy doing it.
Do the other ones. My wife and I love watching some of these
More 90's corn, please deliver mate
The undertaker card in that box set is worth a ton! It's considered his rookie card.
But it's not his rookie card.
Funny but true, a future head of Marvel Comics got his start working for Valiant comics, and I believe he worked on one of these WWF comics, but my memory is hazy.

The Mr. Perfect vs Texas Tornado one shown here, and another one with the Nasty Boys fighting the Bushwackers in a fine dining restaurant. (I don’t remember why)
