Wow Robert, I'm an avid reader and I had no clue about this, at all! You, sir, are a great storyteller. You do the research and your camera work and editing have come a long way. Your accent is lovely and understandable, a Scottish David Attenborough jumps to my mind.
Thank you for this fascinating history lesson. With the hardships of the 1600's, it's a miracle that anyone survived. I'm so grateful for the cushy life that I have.
This was fascinating. Thank you for all your Scotish history and storytelling. I have ancestors from Scotland, and I love hearing the history of the country.
Gorgeous scenery, even if it looked frigidly cold. Loved the statue of ‘Crusoe’ very cool artwork right there. Love stories of people surviving by the sea, they really are far more hardened to life than others. Especially as the sea is merciless. Great video well made
Great video! Isn’t history amazing. You realize that everyone is now going to be rushing to read Robinson Crusoe. Lol And will also blow up google looking for Alexander Selkirk story. I wish you could earn a commission as I’m sure I’m not the only one that hits the internet after your history lesson as you always peak my interest about so many things. Thank you Robert. ❤❤
Scotland's first admiral was also from that area, Sir Lord High Admiral Andrew Wood. He is known as Scotland's Nelson. I am also a direct descendant of him. He lived quite a fascinating life.
@jameseadie7145 Yes, but the barge is reputed to have been ‘rowed by some English prisoners of war still in his service’ till his death. Either way he lived a very fascinating life.
From Chadds Ford, PA, USA Museum here dedicated to the Wyeth family -- has original paintings by NC Wyeth for illustrations in Robinson Crusoe book. Amazing artwork for the time - and i fell in love with the story
I like the story you tell, beening that the British Navy rule the seas for hundred’s of years or so ? Someone would have gotten stranded on one of the Pacific islands ?
Selkirk was pick-up from his island by the great Pirate hunter Wooded Rodges, who promoted him to prize capt., high position back then. Returning home he lived in a cave in the hills and was known for dancing with cats!

I think I must have drowned in a previous life... the thought of living on the sea like that gives me the cold sweats...
😂😂😂
Great video as usual!!
I never knew. That was a very interesting story. As always you've done your homework sir. Thank you

Admiral Wood had a canal dug from his castle ( now a ruin) to the church, and his old ship mates rowed him every Sunday to service
